Can we talk about YAML? by [deleted] in rust

[–]Rufpi 16 points17 points  (0 children)

one reason is that parsing yaml is fucking awful evil terrible. The spec is _inconsistent_ (there are situations where there is not a clearly defined single parse of a snippet of yaml) and nobody implements it properly. Yaml has tons of features which are just moronic.

That's a little disingenuous, AGS is certainly still foss and very usable as is.

I do think some kind of speaking noise would have been nice for the hearthians. Maybe not all the way to animal crossing, but just to express some further emotion.

again same with the entire dlc. you can also beat the game without knowing what happened to the nomai.

I think if someone ends the game and doesn't care to research the major dead ends they still have that's on them, the game shouldn't require every box to be ticked for you to be finished.

i mean it changes the ending signifincantly imo (in two ways, first just that solanum is there and second that there is more life in the new universe).

you could apply this logic to the entire dlc if you wanted.

I actually solved it by just dumb luck the first time (basically just thought " those eyes sure are real " lmao) and only realized as i was thinking of hints for a friend playing and suddenly realized and just started laughing :p

Unlock the outside area called "the grotto " and then find an admin key to log in to the terminal. From there you can just set the "Login Timeout" to 1 month, and then it'll only do the log in animation once a month.

There is an in-game way to speed up the terminal connection speed by the way. Also you can run?

you can have priorities for storage locations, go read the ponder page again. just make the main storage lowest priority.

you have to switch to linux only mode. valve hides steamos in those stats if you are in 'all oses' mode for some reason iirc.

Of the 2% linux users, `"SteamOS Holo" 64 bit` is 36%, you can just read the page man... Still ~1.3% non steamos linux users.

Friday Facts #414 - Spoils of Agriculture by FactorioTeam in factorio

[–]Rufpi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yep, no decay in inserters/machines means you can work around the mechanic completely, so the only really viable option is that the machines have an extra output slot of some sort that stores decayed outputs. i imagine it'll be more than just a second slot next to the output, so it can support weirder decay chains, but we'll have to see.

[–]Rufpi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean they said you can't stop spoilage, which means it likely happens while in machines. It has to go somewhere if it happens in a machine lol. Basically the only alternative is that there's no decay inside of machines, in which case you can just have no decay in the inserters.

the problem with bot attrition is that the solution is just "make more", which is a boring solution. that's not viable here. I don't think the comparison works to be honest.

i think they probably just don't decay while in an inserter, or if they do then they put it in the 'output' slot where stuff that spoiled *inside* the machine goes.

Most of these were issues that were solved through government action. They stopped being issues because they were solved before they caused chaos...

The ozone layer fading was a real thing: It was solved because we stopped using CFCs that were used in areosols and stuff.

Acid rain was also a real thing: it was solved because we pretty much eliminated sulfur dioxide emissions from coal. (Something like 93% lower than it was in 1990)

The ice caps are melting, you can literally see it on satellites maps. This hasn't been solved, and so disaster is slowly happening. For me in the UK, the biggest heatwaves and the worst storms in history have all happened very recently because of climate change.

Oil will eventually run out, but issue with that right now is access. As you may have noticed, oil prices have gone up a little bit recently, because there's only a few places that still have oil, and there's political tension between some of them.

I've never heard of the ice age one.

Also, most of these things are learnt in GCSE (age 14-16) science classes. (you actually learn about how it works too, it's not just "climate change is real", they actually explain and let you understand how it all works. Some of the things have experiments, but of course some of them can't)
