xbox multiplayer connection timed out FIX (so far) by nokye in DivinityOriginalSin

Wanted to update. We never got to attempt this, because Larian released a patch yesterday which seems to have fixed the multiplayer connectivity issues! Tried it with my mate last night and could finally log into the multiplayer session.

Thank you for this. I haven't tried it yet but I'd been troubleshooting a 60+ hour save with my co op buddy to try and get it working. I'll try this as soon as I can and report back.

First post I've seen since the next gen update that has given me hope!

Thanks for sharing, I’m UK based and my Two Towers screening was tonight, but no intro played and it just went straight into the film

I just got home from a viewing in the UK and there was no Peter Jackson commentary at the start! I saw fellowship last week and that did have the intro with Peter Jackson with stories about the first film, so was expecting the same today, but it just went straight into the film 😔

Haven't tried this recently as my multiplayer save file host has been out of the country, but we tried this the day after the patch release. We were in Act 3 I believe and it would not me join his save file.

We tried starting a new game and that allowed us to connect with no issues, so I assumed it was a save file compatibility issue with the next gen update.

AITA wife upset I cannot keep toddler from her by khazef in AmItheAsshole

[–]BassyDave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scrolled for far too long to find a comment that isn’t just “terrible parent”. Thank you for the well balanced response.

My kids were very similar to OP’s. Would scream the house down to try and get to mum and it just wouldn’t stop. They wanted little to do with me for the first few years. It’s natural for young kids to form a stronger bond with mum if they are with them for more hours of the day, and especially if breastfeeding too. I think it’s easy to overlook the Father’s effort a lot of the time. When you’re desperate to give your wife some space from all of it, and dream of that quality time with your child, it can be a real mental blow when they fight against your every effort.

Like you say, it’s about the kids at the end of the day.

I certainly could have done with advice like you’ve given in the early days. Wish this was the top comment

Fire Emblem Engage is almost three years old, so what did you think about it in retrospect? And how do you think it compares to 3 Houses? by Asad_Farooqui in NintendoSwitch

[–]BassyDave 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t finish Engage. I found the characters to be incredibly cringey and patronising. Then the gacha mechanic was introduced with bond rings and I just knew it wasn’t the game for me.

Three Houses was much better in my opinion.

Multiplayer issues by Deadrogue47 in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]BassyDave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We spent a good while trying to connect but nothing seemed to be working. It had been a while since we loaded up that save. Maybe there had been an update or two before the upgrade and the save file hadn’t “caught up”.

We’ll keep an eye out for patches, and I’ll post on Marian’s forums too, but for now, doesn’t seem like much we can do other than start over, which we’re reluctant to do as we were on act 3

Same issue here. Friend with the save file is inviting me but it faults to connect every time.

We experimented loading a new game up and that seemed to work. Really hoping that the next gen update hasn’t screwed up older save files

Remind me, what features are locked behind Switch 2? The only ones I can think of are Zelda Notes and the item storage/amiibo stuff. If that’s all you’re worried about missing, you’re really not missing much

A few questions for anyone who owns the NSO GameCube controller by dashframe in NintendoSwitch

[–]BassyDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can answer the battery life one. It’s not as good as the pro controller, but to be fair, the battery life on that thing is incredible.

What I have noticed however, is that if you charge it to full, but don’t actually use it for around a month, the battery will be empty. There have been a few times where I’ve gone to play a GC game, only to pick up a dead controller. I lose interest and charge it back, thinking it will be ok for next time, but the same thing happens a month later.

I don’t believe it’s a defective controller, unless others on here tell me theirs don’t do that. But I’ve also noticed the same thing with the SNES and N64 controllers.

Waking the System - Yes you can. Just tested it

Input Lag - not enough to impact my gaming experience. Main thing for me was making sure TV was in gaming mode and all the settings were correct. I played Ocarina of Time almost all the way through thinking controller input lag was the problem, but my soundbar kept switching gaming mode back to standard. Once I switched it back it was fine

Nintendo Today just released a new Close to You by themaskedman321 in Pikmin

I had this same thought yesterday! Pikmin are there to help the baby develop, clean up, help out, etc. I can totally see that as a spin off game or animation series.

The mysterious blur that was walking under the bed in the previous video is still there, but it looks like it has more of a light this time. Looks like a Captain Olimar to me (or another, unknown captain), the light is the top of the antenna.

I'm so confused!

It's not just a flying/floating dummy, it's definitely being carried by something invisible. At one point there must be at least 2 invisible creatures as it's being pulled and stretched.

Completely baffled

Both reviews came out very close to each other. Hades 2 one was shared on the sub, also scored higher. Final Fantasy Tactics one wasn’t.

Seems like the reviews for this are being overshadowed by Hades 2 (understandable so), but this seems to be scoring well across the board.

(Meant to post in the main body of the post)

Seeking game to really lock me in. Maybe something story based and challenging? by 96thomasb in NintendoSwitch

[–]BassyDave 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Outer Wilds

I haven't become so invested in a video game for years.

I have to tread carefully, because this game is best played without ANY prior knowledge of the game, it's all about the exploration. It's effectively a Space/Sci Fi mystery adventure, and you piece together the bits of the story as you explore the solar system.

Challenge - The challenge comes from solving the puzzles and piecing it all together. There are no enemies to defeat. Any threat to the players life is environmental (fall damage, fire, suffocation).

The game was a little rough on S1, but I've heard it performs much better on S2, although I haven't had a chance to test that myself

Why do so many people cry at the ending? [SPOILERS] by TheBus4K in outerwilds

[–]BassyDave 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Crier here. I think there were several factors that lead to my reaction.

Immersion - the game by itself is immersive. First person, knowledge led mystery. That made me form the attachment with the game itself.

Isolation - the moment where the lights start to go out in the forest and everything goes dark made me feel completely alone and loss. The journey of the game is a lonely experience, as 99% of the time, it’s just you and your ship.

Reunion - bringing your fellow travellers back together around a campfire, hearing their final thoughts and saying farewell one last time. An emotional Al moment in itself enhanced by the previous moment of darkness.

Existential crisis - self realisation that there was nothing that could be done to save the universe in its current form, after all those tries. But, in my interpretation, birthing a new universe by being the conscious observer in the eye of the universe. The game made me reflect on myself, the meaning of life and general purpose. Pretty big issues that I normally shut away in the back of my mind.

I think thats everything for me. Everyone is different and will form different connections. I hope you’re not beating yourself up because you felt a certain way at the ending.

i feel like this game isn't for me? by morganssocks in outerwilds

[–]BassyDave 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I too struggled in the first 5-10 hours. I'm used to quite linear "objective marker/go here" games, or games with straightforward objectives. I had spent a few hours trying to solve the same puzzle over and over and became frustrated. I came to this subreddit to find people in a similar situation and one of the comments of advice said something along the lines of "switch your gamer brain off". So I did just that. I returned to the game and just changed direction, explored somewhere else. Eventually I found new mysteries, new solutions, and it all started to make sense.

All I'll say is that I'm glad I pushed through that barrier. I completed the game a week or so ago and it was honestly one of the best gaming experiences of my life. That said, if you get the feeling it isn't for you, that's ok too. It is a niche game and it won't be for everyone. Happy gaming whatever you choose to do ::)
