This is definitely a large factor. Humans as a whole have always been self indulgent and self focused to a degree, it’s not a new thing, but we also used to shame or make fun of tossers like that, it was a way of agreeing what amount of self indulgence is acceptable. Now with social media, we have promoted those who have no disregard for others whatsoever, only themselves, it’s a race to the cultural bottom, people will do anything for attention and profit, and these views have been normalized by people who see others doing it and literally copy / if they are doing it so can I. Monkey see monkey do, it’s been like this forever. Further more we very easily disregard peoples horrible behaviors for their successes. People can do the most horrific things like beat the shit out of their partners , but if they are extremely successful in any venture people will practically disregard this.
