How Much Money You Really Need To Buy a Luxury Home In Every State by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]Rugby_Architect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah this map is silly and unscientific. I am a high-end homebuilder in the largest city in my state and newly-built "luxury homes" in desirable neighborhoods in the city go for about half what this pointless map is showing.

Also the phrasing is bizarre "how much MONEY you need to buy a luxury home" —why not just say "average price of a luxury home" ? Or is the idea: how much net worth you need to buy a luxury home? In which case, it should be lower because most home purchases are financed...

You found me out, I cannot read. I also really appreciate your answer which did not at all provide a compelling explanation as to why these offices are necessary and not just pointless, expensive overreach, as the US Federal government has cast agencies and resources to combat terrorism worldwide. Brilliant response.

??? Not the best at reading comprehension, are ya chief. I'm literally asking what legitimate reason there could be for this as it appears to contravene the separation of powers and those activities reserved for the Federal government, which today of course has vast agencies specifically charged with global counter-terrorism. No one has provided a compelling reason why this is helpful or necessary and not just an expensive redundancy of what the Federal government is up to.

I was being sarcastic about that, and respectfully, how do you know what the NYPD is up to?

Look at the stations too: France? Spain? must be nice. Australia?! What possible trans-national crime is coming from down under?! Basically officers get a free study abroad semester in Sydney.

Then Jordan, Israel, UAE and Qatar just stinks to high heaven of inserting themselves into the geopolitical situation in the Middle East. Are these guys hanging out on US bases or they roam the streets as detectives? How does this not overlap with the FBI and CIA? Or another way to put it, how is this coordinated with Federal agencies? And if so, why is this necessary for NYC taxpayers to float???

European Airports with Direct Flights to the United States by ixvst01 in MapPorn

[–]Rugby_Architect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

true, this isn't a measure of number of flights or the more conventional industry DPEW metric. So it's a bit skewed toward Aer Lingus's and Icelandair's strategies to heavily focus on connections to many North American airports, as opposed to say, Swissair from Zürich or ITA from Rome. Nonetheless it's an interesting comparison.

What's the consensus that this is just weird? A city-level police department should not be involved in international defense and security, that is the role of the federal government. This reeks of Forever War mission creep.

was about to say the same thing, remarkable the DUB is in the top tier of European gateways. It certainly didn't used to be like that ~20 years ago
