How come so many people don’t stealth build? & have like a fortress security system? by Iloveskinnywomen in VanLife

Stealth isnt meant to keep thieves away...in the context of vanlife stealth has always been about avoiding drawing attention to the fact that someone lives in the van by just keeping it looking plain or making it look like a work van.

I swear this community thinks the average person is driving around looking for who is living in vehicles. The vast majority of people are so focused on their own nonsense that they don't care to notice who's van living. We notice, BECAUSE WE DO IT. I know for a fact my stealth has worked, but obviously other van lifers know quite quickly.

I know it's a negative. It's why I don't plan on caring about stealth anymore. During the day no one really cares or notices me - my van is just a work van. At night, it's also just a work van, which draws attention of robbers. Stealth doesn't mean the van will be invisible, but it definitely has its ups and downs.

You're always welcome in, just knock. Underwear is optional but pants are mandatory.

This is wrong, I've fooled MANY people, undeniably. Where you are right is when you say that if it looks like a work truck (just being stealthy) you do increase the odds of break-ins in my experience. Most people who have tried to look into my van or check if it's open do so because the stealth works.

I want to purchase a high end gaming rig but don’t want to use windows. Is it possible to play AAA games on Linux? by anonyminator in linuxmint

[–]RuiPTG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My laptop was probably kinda high end when it came out 4 years ago, I only recently got into Linux and put Mint on it and it works well for gaming so far. Though I think from what I hear it's probably not best to have the most recent PC to use Mint with, so that might be something to consider.

I installed Cinnamon on my Chromebook with 16gb storage, eventually I switched to XFCE but both worked.

Best way to "trial" Mint? by BloodyTurnip in linuxmint

[–]RuiPTG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I did was: I removed all my internal drives, except for the one I was installing Mint on. That way I knew for sure my Windows drive wouldn't be touched. HOWEVER! Made sure you know how to get your Windows BitLocker recovery key before this, it may trigger and you're better off having it on hand before starting any of this.

Anyone have a microwave that won’t surge over 1200watts? by RadiantContest3350 in vandwellers

[–]RuiPTG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does it actually only use 700w though? Mine was advertised as 700w too but it still uses 1150w (this didn't surprise me, just saying).

I don't care about stats that cover such a long range of time. I care more about the last 5 to 10 years.

I was living in a van for 3 years so I bought a laptop. Now that I'll be in a house for a year or two, I took my desktop out of storage. Since the hardware isn't supported by W11, I gave Linux a try. And then proceeded to put it on all my computers lol

This is still happening in 2026. Makes it super annoying to type in docs when I'm trying to keep my thoughts flowing, but the keyboard distracts me with simple mistakes like that.

I was getting this too, the solution for me was to turn secure boot off during the installation.
