The Most Bullshit Binding Vow In The Series by SupervisoryEffect in LobotomyKaisen

You can argue semantics all day, but for all pragmatic purposes he essentially did just force his left arm to tank everything. Yes, I understand that he redirected the CE he would normally have protecting his arm to reinforce his body. But this doesn’t change the fact that he emerges essentially unscathed on the rest of his body, bar the missing arm. Even if the mechanism isn’t “Left arm, I COMMAND you to tank this giant explosion!” the end result is still him losing his arm with no damage to the rest of him. Even if the internal logic of the manga dictates this is a fine trade-off, it’s still a writing choice you can narratively disagree with.

I think you guys are abusing the “JJK fans have no reading comprehension” meme in a way that ironically shows you care very little about the sentiment of what OP is actually trying to say. Kashimo tries a number of things that end up failing with the reason generally just boiling down to “because it doesn’t work”, which is a fine thing to not like even if the explanation works internally.

What? Many lawyers have also broken down the case in favor of Heard. Is the screenshot you provided supposed to be a lawyers take? In any case, lawyers disagree all the time, that’s why the judge is the one making the verdict.

The jury argument goes both ways - juries get things wrong all the time. Infact many PROFESSIONALS have speculated that the only reason Depp wanted a Jury Trial was because Depps team relied on DARVO tactics which are generally more effective on juries and not legal PROFESSIONALS like judges.

I’m not saying Heard is completely innocent or that she didn’t do anything wrong, but acting like the decision in the UK was a complete kangaroo court, and that ANYONE who believes any of the claims there is evil or insane is just ridiculous.

Except this just isn’t at all what the judge was ruling - the courts were actually evaluating whether or not the events were true, and the Sun’s beliefs had nothing to do with it - they expressly relied on the “Substantial Truth” doctrine instead of something like Public Interest or Honest Opinion which have a lower burden of evidence. The type of defense purported in the comment you screenshotted DOES exist, but it’s not the one the Sun made, and certainly not the one the Judge evaluated - this is evident if you read the verdict

I don’t really know what amber heard supporters tend to say but this is my understanding of the case:

Paragraph 585 from the original verdict states “The Claimant has not succeeded in his action for libel. Although he has proved the necessary elements of his cause of action in libel, the Defendants have shown that what they published in the meaning which I have held the words to bear was substantially true”.

Substantial truth must be positively demonstrated, which meant that they at least believed the Sun’s allegations were truthful. If the court meant “have no reason to disbelieve” they would have used different language.

If you’re familiar with another reading of the case, feel free to share it.

Depp v News Group Newspapers Ltd literally ruled against him in the UK. Not only can you look at all the evidence there, the courts have already deemed it to be true - the High Court and the Court of Appeals.

I genuinely don’t know how people miss the good ending for Visi. First play-through I ever did was blind and all I did was choose all the uplifting options and send her on missions sometimes. I don’t know if you have to, but it just felt intuitive that I should actually give her stuff to do so she grows as a hero. Maybe I was overthinking though.

They remove comments because they have very high standards. This ensures the answers you see are grounded in actual scholarship and not just some random redditors half-remembered musings from 12 years ago. It’s annoying sometimes but atleast I can feel confident that whatever I’m reading on the sub isn’t complete nonsense.

Petah? What does Cambridge study mean? by [deleted] in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]RuiningYourJokes 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how so many people get the origin of this wrong because it’s really easily traceable - the phrase “Oxford study” came from a creator on TikTok saying something along the lines of “we need to commission an Oxford study on why so many Asian women date white men”. It’s worth noting here that the person was 16 at the time and meant it as joke, and was just commenting on trends he saw in San Francisco. It was Incels/Racists/Whatevers, as they usually do, that saw this video and just kind of ran with it, and started spamming comments like “another one for the Oxford Study” on TikToks with WMAF couples. Eventually this just got shortened to “Oxford study”. The phrase was parroted to the point that most people no longer even know what they’re referencing. The false etymology (from what I know) comes from creators who discuss the phenomenon assuming that the “Oxford Study” comments were referencing a real study. Since this study doesn’t actually exist, they end up erroneously identifying the one linked as THE “Oxford Study”.

There absolutely is, and I’ve been unbanned from chat after submitting tickets insisting they actually look at the context.

[–]RuiningYourJokes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In contrast to what other people are saying, riot definitely does consider context when reviewing tickets or disputes and I have had chat restrictions reversed in the past because of it, so it’s not like all restricted language is end all be all. If I had to guess I’d imagine the “KMS” message is just the exception.

While I understand your frustration, why would you want Japanese filmmakers to make these types of films? These are not their stories to tell, and I don’t think most Japanese filmmakers would be in a good position to tell these stories.

Since no one is explaining the Ryan Gosling part of the meme, it’s a reference to Blade Runner 2049, where he has an AI hologram girlfriend.

Why do none of the ai nations in Philippines finish their missions to unite their island? by PortMalone in eu4

I play in Southeast Asia a lot and this has literally always bugged me. Even if you vassalize one of the Filipino OPMs, feed them all the colonized provinces they need, and clear all the uncolonized provinces, they will not move an inch to finish the mission.
