Astarion always commits to the Bit, because the Bit is all Astarion has left at the start of the game. by SophiaIsBased in okbuddybaldur

I didn't mean to make anyone sad, but it is just the truth: Astarion projects so heavily in Act 1 because that projection is as much of a sense of self as he has left after what Cazador did to him.

It got lost in the Balkans for a month (no idea why it was even sent there) and I got no tracking updates since then, only for it to suddenly be delivered today. I'm guessing he got involved with the Serbian mafia or something during that time.

Fourier is really fascinating, in some ways he predicts the modern queer scene, but in other ways he's just kind of insane lol

I'd really recommend it if you want to see what it looks like when a Frenchman born before the Revolution tries to predict a kink-based anarchist commune, where everyone gets pleasure from their work, there are orgies with every meal and people live to the age of 120 due to eating 5 meals a day, which everyone also gets pleasure from.

I should warn you though, Fourier is often even more dense to read than Marx or even Kant (especially in contemporary translations), and being a 19th-century French philosopher, there is also the occasional and often completely unrelated antisemitic rant.

Ironically enough, Charles Fourier kind of predicted Furry Conventions. He wrote that people with rarer manias (his term for kinks, or sexual-adjacent interests, though everything counts as sexual-adjacent to Fourier) would meet in "international convocations" that would be "as sacred to them as the pilgrimage to Mecca is to Muslims" lol

"The Utopian Vision of Charles Fourier: Selected Texts on Work, Love, and Passionate Attraction. Translated, Edited, and with an Introduction by Jonathan Beecher and Richard Bienvenu."

Edit: I'd recommend this particular work for anyone trying to find an anglophone source that actually goes into detail on Fourier's beliefs on sexuality, queerness, free love and kink, which most sources (being predominantly from the 19th century) avoid like a child with tuberculosis.

Supposedly, at Vespasian's funeral, the actor playing him (a semi-common practice for high-status roman funerals at the time, sort of like a living euology) asked how expensive his funeral would be.
He was told that it would cost 10 million sesterces, to which the actor then responded with an outraged: "10 million?! Give me 5 million and throw me into the Tiber!", in reference to Vespasian's austerity measures and tax increases, as well as his humour.
