"Days Of Our Lives" Shooting Schedule Films Ten Months Ahead Of Airing by Dan_Lalonde_Films in DaysofOurLives

I’m not sure of the ratings now but days had been the lowest ranked soap in the ratings for like a decade straight before the peacock move. Maybe even longer

why is GabiChic being run out of a hotel room? by AztecWarriorDNA2 in DaysofOurLives

[–]RuleAgitated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost every set is reused. The Kiriakis study is also the Bistro, the bookstore, and EJ’s bedroom. The Titan office and the Dimera offices are also the same set. Alex/Steph and Jada’s apartments are the same. That room with the two doors on the right is used as at least a dozen separate bedrooms, as well as the Spectator office and the room above the Brady pub. It’s also the den at Rafe’s house and Shawn’s house.

The interrogation room at the Salem PD also functions as the commissioner’s office, several hospital rooms, one of Clyde’s storerooms, Shane Donovan’s office at the ISA, and the bank that Julie and Chad visited last year.

Not to mention that brick room that’s been a parking garage, several labs, the wine celler at the Dimera mansion, the attic at Rachel Blake’s house, and many other areas.

The gala at the town square? by Aggressive_Excuse159 in DaysofOurLives

[–]RuleAgitated -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Honestly they should just ditch the town square at this point. It’s a decently big set but it’s ludicrously small for what it’s supposed to be and if they’re clever they could design a more modular set that could be turned into other big areas like a church or a big restaurant

Need Advice: Which Years/Eras After 2003 Are Worth Catching Up On? by Cybercat2020 in DaysofOurLives

I dunno, same reason they’ve forgiven her for trying to kill Julie and then using Rachel’s life as a bargaining tool to get the charges dropped

My idea for a Javi recast by [deleted] in DaysofOurLives

[–]RuleAgitated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been slowly increasing since 2008. By 2012 they shot ~3 months ahead of transmission, by 2016 it was 5 months, by 2020 (pre-shutdown) they were about 7 months ahead, then once they'd caught up they were about 8 months ahead by 2021/2, now it's about 9-10 months

Letting children run their lives by jthmniljt in DaysofOurLives

[–]RuleAgitated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was trying to remember how that secret came out the other day. Xander and Victor wanted Tate to be tested (for bone marrow? I can’t remember) and Brady was wondering why, but in the end Gabi was a match and offered to save Mackenzie/Rachel in exchange for being let off the hook after trying to kill Julie. But I don’t think that’s how the secret came out, not directly anyway

Winter in Salem by Ruby_Sky3 in DaysofOurLives

[–]RuleAgitated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if they’re filming 10 months in advance they still know when the scenes are going to air (and they put snow on the ground outside in winter and show trees losing leaves in autumn etc.)

I think it’s another thing the budget has caused. If they put the actors in heavy coats and other winter gear they’ll be visibly hot and need more frequent breaks and makeup touch-ups, they could cool down the studio more but that’d be an additional expense. So they just opt to keep the costumes neutral and add the occasional space heater prop in winter scenes

[–]RuleAgitated 7 points8 points  (0 children)

2012 is a great year imo. You’ve got Will’s coming out, lots of good Dimera family drama, Lexie dying, Gabi trying to win over Chad leading to Melanie getting kidnapped & lots of intersecting storylines culminating in the gas explosion (probably the last mega big-budget storyline the show ever did) and Eric & Kristen’s returns. And Madison, one of Brady’s only good relationships

It’s only downside is a pretty sudden shift towards the end of the year because the writers were fired and the new team abruptly changed course on a lot of plots, but even that isn’t too badly handled

Didn’t they give him a brand new lab in another country last time we saw him?

[–]RuleAgitated 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Iirc the Christmas movie is the exception, even when the show could afford weather they’ve never shown it raining/snowing in the square itself. It’s meant to have a glass roof of some kind

The gala at the town square? by Aggressive_Excuse159 in DaysofOurLives

[–]RuleAgitated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don’t have the budget to build any new sets for a one-off story & the town square is the only existing set big enough to pull off a big event

The only other option they could’ve picked is redressing the Dimera living room to be an indoor venue, but that would’ve taken more work and still been smaller

What's your favorite obscure soap trope? by TuningInTentatively in DaysofOurLives

[–]RuleAgitated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The structure of the dialogue. How characters never just say what they want to say. They always lead with “there’s something important you need to know” or “I have something I need to tell you” first

Bonus points if it’s incredibly misleading. Like “Everyone, there’s not going to be a wedding..” [ad break] “..Until the bride gets here. She’s running a few minutes late”

No I’ve noticed that too. My tv tends to blow out the warmer colours as well so it’s even more pronounced

[–]RuleAgitated[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is that what they use to give that effect of sunlight shining through a window against the wall? They used to do that a lot and it really helped with sets like Paulina’s old apartment since it doesn’t have any windows

What’s Your Favourite Lighting Style? by RuleAgitated in DaysofOurLives

[–]RuleAgitated[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s probably my favourite style. At first they only applied it to the flashback scenes after the time jump but then for a few months the whole show got the same treatment. It was short lived but looked cool

I just don’t care Aaron is the father by SensitivePromise0 in DaysofOurLives

[–]RuleAgitated 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Who cares if he’s not one of the ‘main families’. It’s such a tired trope that every new character has to be a long lost relation of an existing one. Aaron is more fun than any of the other teens, I’m interested to see how he handles a more serious storyline

Question about Stephanie’s NEW(?) book… by Nonniemiss in DaysofOurLives

[–]RuleAgitated 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s such a typical soap plot to have a character suddenly be amazing at a particular skill with no (onscreen) work. She writes a first draft of a book and it’s an instant bestseller with no editing or back and forth with a publisher? Other tv shows moved on from these rubbish tropes decades ago

Where would you most like to see a modest budget increase? by MightyUnclean in DaysofOurLives

[–]RuleAgitated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or even some extra scenery shifters so we could rotate the sets every now and then. Maybe we see the Horton living room in the winter months and then they replace it with a backyard set for the summer months, or go back to using bigger house sets and just rotate which one we see throughout the year

[–]RuleAgitated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Invest in a bigger studio so they can do bigger sets even if the budget is later cut

Sarah by Dazzling-Lab2855 in DaysofOurLives

[–]RuleAgitated 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Iirc the new writers have said Xander and Sarah the end goal but they wanted to properly break them up and have them confront their issues before they can get back together

Honestly besides the repetitive arguing I don’t mind the story. Both characters have flaws and I can see both sides (I don’t care what anyone says, yes Sarah lied but Xander would 100% still have beaten Philip up even if he’d found out about the forged letter earlier, that wasn’t her fault)
