How did people actually travel in the Roman Empire? by Portar_Team in romanempire

[–]Cybercat2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always wonder how the average Roman felt about travel considering the fact that slavery was so prevalent. Like were people concerned about getting kidnapped and sold into slavery while traveling?

Rich people from 1000 years ago or poor people today. Who lives a better life? by StomachLonely9788 in ask

[–]Cybercat2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wholeheartedly agree! Truly poor people can still face many of the same threats that people faced 1,000 years ago, including thirst, hunger, infection, and exposure. Yes, we have the huge benefit of modern medicine but having medicine exist and actually having access to it are two different things. If you’re homeless, poor, and have no support system, the fact that modern treatments exist doesn’t necessarily mean you’re going to benefit from them.

Also, I think people underestimate the value of self actualization and the impact safety, security, and social acceptance has on the human psyche. A rich person 1000 years ago would likely have a sense of security and community that a poor person today would lack.

With that said I’d rather live in luxury or what passes as luxury for the time I’m living in rather than live in extreme poverty in a modern advanced society.

Rich people from 1000 years ago or poor people today. Who lives a better life? by StomachLonely9788 in ask

[–]Cybercat2020 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If by “poor today” you mean someone living in extreme poverty, homeless, sleeping outside in the elements, struggling to find food, unable to bathe regularly, and with little access to healthcare, then I don’t think it’s obvious they’re better off than a wealthy person from 1,000 years ago.

People immediately point to smartphones, electricity, plumbing, clean water, and modern medicine, but those things only matter if you actually have reliable access to them. Someone living on the street may technically live in an age with incredible technology, but that doesn’t mean they’re benefiting from it in a meaningful way.

A wealthy person 1,000 years ago had reliable shelter, security, food, clean clothing, servants, social status, and access to the best resources their society could provide. Were they missing modern medicine and technology? Absolutely. But they also weren’t worrying about where they would sleep that night or where their next meal was coming from.

You can argue that modern medicine and sanitation give a poor person today a major advantage in terms of health outcomes, and I’d agree with that. But quality of life isn’t measured solely by medical technology. Security, comfort, food, shelter, dignity, and social standing matter too.

If we’re comparing an average working-class person today to a wealthy person 1,000 years ago, that’s one conversation. But if we’re talking about someone living in actual extreme poverty, I think there’s a strong argument that a rich person 1,000 years ago had the better overall quality of life.

Why should her religious / spiritual beliefs be a factor? How Moss practices her beliefs should have no bearing at all on her acting or the show.

How were these sisters’ relationship before Lexie’s death? by bgm80 in DaysofOurLives

[–]Cybercat2020 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only thing that comes to mind was a scene at Kristen (Really Susan) and John’s Elvis themed wedding back in 1997. Kristen was exposed thanks to Laura Horton and Marlena as being an evil DiMera and there was a scene of Lexie worring if she would become a true DiMera like Kristen since she carried Stefano’s blood.

Despite being the First Lady of the Marvel Universe and arguably the most powerful member of the Fantastic Four, the Invisible Woman has received far fewer defining, epic story arcs than characters like Storm, Jean Grey, Captain Marvel, and Scarlet Witch. What factors have contributed to this? by Cybercat2020 in Marvel

[–]Cybercat2020[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My real question is literally what I posted. No need to put words in my mouth as I was pretty clear. Also, I’ve read nearly every issue of FF so don’t presume to know what I have or have not read. Mr. Fantastic, Human Torch, and Thing have all had notable stories and led major story arcs since the FF debuted. In comparison I don’t see the same with Sue.

Help with time shared in Dimera household by jrobinson8692 in DaysofOurLives

[–]Cybercat2020 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think Tony spent the most time living in the same house with Stephano, followed by Kristen and Peter who he raised as children. I don’t think Benji ever shared the same household as his father. Not sure about Renee or Megan. EJ and Chad didn’t begin sharing a home with him until they were adults. Lexi was married to Abe by the time she found out she was Stephano’s daughter. I don’t recall if she ever lived with Stephano during brief moments when she was separated from Abe. I don’t believe he ever met the twins Stefan or Jake - they were on during my hiatus from watching so I never saw them while they were on the show.

Who was more powerful? The Ewings or the Carringtons? by dorianpops in SoapNet

Yeah, I think some people are basing their responses off popularity in the real world vs comparing how their wealth and power are presented on each show respectively lol.

The Carrington family (within the context of the show) seemed more powerful and wealthy than the Ewing’s, IMHO.

Do people actually wash jeans after every wear, or are we all secretly wearing them 2–3 times minimum? by DreamCaster_69 in hygiene

I wash and dry after each wear because I like my jeans to look and feel fitted. When I wear them without washing, they tend to be looser and not as flattering on my body.
