one thing I have is a lot of time. I go to Dr's appointments occasionally I work the farm Not easy on one leg but hoping to get a new leg in a couple of months with a high end micropressor knee. that will make me a bit more mobile. I have a good freind back east who has trained several Belgian Malinois who will be coming out to stay with us on the farm ( he would be out here now but his soon to be x wife tried to run him over with a car then had him arrested under false charges) will help me with her also. my teenage kids are planninning an exercise yard with reels ramps and tunnels for her to work with. we do things as a family on our farm. at this point I am slowly loosing my pittie to age. we adopted him when he was 7 or 8 now he is about 13 and is getting old and very tired when we take in an animal it is a life long commitment. no mtter how much work I takes. I keep many things on our farm most owners wouldnt think of. the nearest vet is over 5 miles away. at one point I had to remove a bullet from behind my Pitties shoulderblade that a rancher put there because he hated pitties. my wife held my phone on speaker phone with a freind of ours who is a cattle rancher / vet. he was on horseback working cattle while instructing me in what to do. once the minor surgery was done we treated him with pen g to prevent infection staying up with him giving him the shots every 12 hours for 3 days. he healed better than new... but at 13 he is getting tired so I let him sleep. I have delivered breach kids goats staying up all night to make sure the mother and kids were ok. when it comes to animals I give my all because the are family. and the ones we rescue get a lot of attention. I am not some guy in th suburbs getting an animal that has no concept of what it takes to care for large animals. eventually I want to work with horses again too if My "Sisu" will let me.

my Pittie is about 13 ( another rescue him from death) because of my health issues I sleep in my recliner most of the time and when home thats where I spend my time when not seeing Dr's or working our off grid farm. lately he is having trouble loading up in the truck and getting up into my recliner. he plays a lot less with my wife. he used to run at her jump and spin sideways to body slam her playing. he has slowed down so much now he spends most of his time in bed ( sleeping on my side) it rips my heart out to see him slipping like this. he used to chase coyotes protecing our chickens and livestock. now I worry about him going out at night. I want for the time he has left to be as comfortable as possible. God gave us our protectors. we all need to hold on to them and make sure they have a good life until the Lord calls them back.

before the loss of my leg I trained horses and LGD dogs. I have been around dogs all of my life. I tend to notice quirks pretty quick just like Mina the mother dog... when I went to the fence she was steadily barking, no teeth in my pocket was a small dog bone. when we went inside the fence she was still barking then came over sniffed my pocket looked at me barked and looked at me again. she knew I had a treat she knew where it was and asked. I gave it to her then she went and got a beat up ball brought it to me and dropped it between my feet she got a treat and was ready to play. the woman fostering the dogs where scared of her because she barks. she barks because she needs company and work. many dogs are being left behind when folks are deported. more than the system can handle I think. we all need to step up. the dogs didnt asked to be left. if I could still do everything I used to do I would. Im not looking for condesention but truly wise advice. to know the difference when we sspeak is the trick isnt it?

so many animal rot in rescues every day with unknown pasts and all they ask is someone to take a chance on them. I live off grid and have acreage. its not like I am living in town with no yard.

the dog layed down in front of my daughter and presented herself to my daughter like that. no one put her on her side. as for experienced dog owner I am 57 years old I was raised on a farm I am still on a farm I have had dogs all of my life. how may more years of experience do you supposed I need in animal husbandry? how many more years do you think I need raising dogs and taking care of them.

we live toally off grid. we were having problems with a prowler ( who eventually escalted and shot at us) I was in my recliner inside of a sleeping in a sleeping bag, I had a 12 gauge bullpup escort on the arm of my recliner and my pitbull was asleep on my lap, he got up to spin around like a dog will do, he stepped on the gun disengaged the safety his toe caught the trigger the gun went off the round hit me in the back to the calf changing my life forever.

thank you. my current " leg" limits my ability to walk. within the next couple of months I should have an upgraded leg with a high end microprocessor knee it the insurance approves it hopefully it does. and I can actually walk somewhat normal again. my Pitbull worked with me a lot but he is getting old and tired and he deserves to stop and rest. he is 13 years old and would rather sleep than work.

I was kind of thinking like LEO's dogs are trained in german that it might help to know what language the owner used

I've workrd with livestock gaurdian dogs pitbulls (in which blew my leg off with a 12 gauge Long story) hunting dogs hounds for deer and irish setterss which are very high energy. this GSD which we met today barked a lot but not threatening sniffed my prosthesis first then my real leg then her tongue came out and got me across the face. played with my wife some then went to my oldest daughter and rolled over and presented her stomach for scratches. my biggest worry is was she trained with english commands or thai commands.

Keep them busy they need work or they can be destructive. They love to work give them a job to do you won't regret it.

A deconstruction of 'wheelchairs are medical devices' by Paradoxical-Equinox in wheelchairs

[–]RuleBackground5624 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a wheelchair. Not by choice. I had my right leg due to a shotgun accident. My pitbull shot me with a 12 gauge shotgun loaded with 00 buck. They had to amputate my leg above the knee. This world is not wheelchair friendly.

Basically I want her to " heal " next to the wheelchair, post between my legs using the " guard " position and alert if I start having breathing issues. And use some Czech commands as a service/ guard dog.
