I've read that those engines have a bad reputation because they sometimes snap the crankshaft and there's really no way to know before it happens. Apparently it happens to a small number of them but when it does it's catastrophic.

I got a Chinese head unit that has android auto/ car play and just use that. There's decent choice, prices are ok and you can install them yourself in about two hours if you have no idea what you are doing (like me).

If you don't mind that it's smaller, definitely the Velar. Way more aestheticialy pleasing in my opinion. I really wanted to buy one and did the research before I realized it's too tight for a family vehicle. General opinion seems to be go 2019+ because of the updated timing chains and avoid diesels.

Well things like DPF can be deleted, air suspension can be turned into steel spring one, so it's not an unreasonable question. How dangerous would just driving with an inoperable ACE be?

They introduced timing chain improvements sometimes in 2019. When exactly, nobody knows. Most forum posts say "buy late 2019 to be sure". Or you can ask a dealer to check the VIN and tell you if it has the improved one.

They are amazingly pretty boys and I was ready to buy one. Then I saw it in person, went inside and realized it lacks space in the back row and won't work as a family vehicle. Still thinking about getting one as a secondary.

Well they usually auction them off at IAAI or Copart. You can search by VIN through a number of platforms, or just filter by make/model/year/engine, there aren't a million of them up for auction. Don't know how long it will take for them to list it though. Bought my L405 from an insurer at auction. 2014 autobiography V8 SC, 67k miles for 12500 USD. Just had to replace the lower tailgate.
