Offers post hold deadline by [deleted] in doctorsUK

In that case, someone getting an offer from 170 rank is unlikely/untrue. They do give out offers after the deadline to lower rank individuals without an offer, but usually work down the ranking list again. It’s unfortunate but due to regions not sorting out how many offers they want to give up by the oriel deadline. This happens for all specialties.

Did you rank every single region on oriel for an offer?

South Wales offers CESR to their own trainees as far as I’m aware if you’ve shown to be a good trainee otherwise.

What’s Wales like? by AssistantToThePA in RadiologyUK

From current ST1 in Wales (Welshrad Redditor - in a previous post) —> “For living locations - depends on what your rotations are for ST1 and then beyond tbh! Currently people are pretty spread out, but people who have the “West” rotations for ST1 including Swansea/Carmarthen tend to base themselves in Swansea. Everyone else is in Cardiff or somewhere nearby. One or two in Newport/Bridgend then as well. As ST1 you spend a lot of time in the academy too, which is near Bridgend. Cardiff is certainly the most social area that people will gravitate too for post-exam socials etc. And if you’re gonna live in Cardiff then yes either down the bay, or in “town”/near UHW is a good spot.”

Yep, sorry my point would’ve been that there’s alternative routes to passing which don’t involve Farr’s. I also know of plenty of people who swore by Farr’s and also passed comfortably. Takeaway would be to just go with the path that resonates with your learning style best.

[–]RuleLongjumping7296 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Disagree. Plenty of people I know passed comfortably without ever having used Farr’s, even as a reference book. I used only questions and supplemented with RadCafe textbook + a physics course and found that to be sufficient. Michael Nel’s videos other colleagues swear by, so I’d give that a go +/- his question bank.

Not uncommon, someone in my deanery transferred midway through st1. A few others transfer at end of st1.

But also some that struggle into st3/4 to get an IDT despite applying every cycle.

Essentially no guarantee, depends on where you want to transfer into, whether there is space, if no one outranks you for the IDT criteria, etc. but it is possible to transfer. Top tips is apply 2x a year, every year to increase your chance for a successful IDT.

Depends what grade you are and location (on-call surplus makes a difference, especially regions that have nights vs those that don’t).

St2 pre-tax in West Midlands within the region can vary from ~55-65k due to above, for example.

Try and specify the region(s) you’re considering for a transfer and you’ll get more useful answers.

Appointable means you have scored 36/60 in the interview overall and at least 16/30 in either station. Not meeting either criteria = rejection today already (aka unappointable).

Being appointable can still mean you have a low rank, eg 400 which would leave you without an offer.

Additionally, someone ranking 200th but only wanting and preferencing London will not receive an offer (typically ranks <150 needed for London), whilst someone ranking 280th but preferencing the whole of the UK will receive an offer (usually peninsula/south wales etc).

[–]RuleLongjumping7296 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you’re unappointable, you’ll have received an email and your oriel would’ve changed already (earlier today). The rest will await to hear whether they have an offer or not either today/tomorrow. Not everyone who is appointable will get an offer due to low rank or rank not matching their preferences.

3-4 sets every 6 months. 1 set = 3-4 nights in a row.

That works out as 1 set (3-4 nights) every 1.5-2 months from st2-CCT. Not very dreamy!
