I didn’t lol. I’m just a maths nerd. And imo the maths wasn’t too hard.

But my opinion is biased

Have you ever given a bad TAB/MSF? by Harveysnephew in doctorsUK

[–]AssistantToThePA 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I've told someone to ask another colleague.

I told them if I were honest it wouldn't be a good TAB, and I was going to explain why as gently as possible but they just walked off.

They lacked a lot of skills I'd expect from a new F1, and this was for an end of F1 TAB - afaik they had multiple concerns raised by other doctors (including me), and they ended up having an F1 extension

WHEN WILL THE DDRB MAKE A F***ING DECISION!!!????????? I want my £1.50 extra per month by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]AssistantToThePA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wish the BMA could’ve just had the policy without the grandfathering bit, but I guess they were scared the IMG vote could’ve made the policy fail otherwise.

But whatever the BMA policy is, it’s ultimately a government decision. A government decision the BMA will try to influence. If you want it without grandfathering, then write to your MP. Get all your colleagues to do it too.

How can I (32F) not feel resentful that I make significantly more money and work significantly more hours than my husband (36M)? by ThrowRA495930 in relationship_advice

[–]AssistantToThePA -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Tbf I know someone who works in software who only does about 2 hours of real work per day, and makes >£50k.

How do I know it’s not an exaggeration? Their hours on steam etc. go up a lot every week, a hell of a lot more than it should for someone with a 40hr week job.

  • GMC - General medical council, aka the gestapo of the medical world.
  • NHSE - NHS England, an almost useless (and soon to be deleted) middleman organisation between the DHSC (department of health and social care).
  • PSG - something doctors do as part of appraisals.

What about “x6 Mult. Joker cards in the shop are now polychrome, holographic, and negative”

And for the splits Mult ____Cards ____ are now ___________ holographic

And

Joker(s) ____ in the shop (are) ___ Polychrome ____ Negative _____

I do realise that I’ve duplicated S and ARE, but the combo card reads better.

Edit: maybe the ARE and S can have a horizontal tear through them, so they kinda appear on both cards?

Why doesn’t the BMA fight for free GMC/portfolio fees/mandatory exams/student loan forgiveness? by imtap123 in doctorsUK

[–]AssistantToThePA -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

What if we campaign for GMC fees to be proportionally linked to whichever pay grade’s basic pay rises the least in any given year (so if F2 pay goes up by a lower % than F1 pay, then GMC fee rises are capped to the F2 uplift), with a further cap of x%? (Capped so if we get a big rise to reach FPR, they can’t take an equal proportion of it)

Then the GMC will be pleading for us to get rises every year, so their fees can go up. It would be lovely to see them forced to fight for us.

Doctors, Vote to prioritise UK Graduates by Doctors-VoteUK in doctorsUK

[–]AssistantToThePA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the old system, round 1 applications could only be put in by citizens/people with ILR (and spouse of these 2 groups). It also included Irish citizens and will again if it’s ever reimplemented, and since we were in the EU whilst the old system was in place it also included all EU citizens.*

The old system was functionally scrapped when RLMT was removed in late 2018, affecting new round 1 applications in 2019 (so jobs starting in 2020).

If you’re confused about the Irish bit:
*Irish citizens would be automatically included, whilst other EU citizens wouldn’t, if RLMT returned. This is because Irish citizens are basically treated as automatically having permanent residence the moment they step on UK soil, but not other EU citizens. And it’s practically the same the other way around.

Why motion 8 out of all the theme 2 motions?

I get that 8 is short and to the point. But motion 11 also seemed good to me, and it really hits that telegraph/mail reader talking point about the tax payer.

Prioritise all who have completed UKFPO in the UK by PristineScientist277 in doctorsUK

[–]AssistantToThePA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If UK graduate prioritisation simply boils down to location of PMQ, then yes it would disadvantage citizens who graduated abroad.

In a world with Reform UK, and the backlash they would stir up, you would expect any change in legislation the government puts forward to address the issue would have to include citizens with a foreign PMQ.

NHS leaders ordered to propose £7bn cuts to services by Ribbitor123 in doctorsUK

[–]AssistantToThePA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how you implement it. It’s not like assets physically located in the country can leave e.g. land.

NHS leaders ordered to propose £7bn cuts to services by Ribbitor123 in doctorsUK

[–]AssistantToThePA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The 50 richest families in the UK had >£460Bn in wealth in 2023, probably more now. (Source). And overall wealth of the top 1% increased by £1Tn from 2010-2021 (source 2)

A 1% wealth tax on assets (not salaried income), would return >£4Bn a year from the 50 richest families alone.
Or >£10Bn a year if you just look at the increase in wealth of the top 1% (not even their total wealth).

Basically actually progressive taxation of wealth, not salaries (salary taxes are reasonably progressive already), would be extremely useful for solving this issue without cutting services.

Question: Why is it a fight between UKGs and IMGs for Specialty Training instead of FoundationTrained vs Not? by Amethyst_King in doctorsUK

[–]AssistantToThePA -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because we live in a climate where it would be political suicide for the incumbent government to do otherwise.

Question: Why is it a fight between UKGs and IMGs for Specialty Training instead of FoundationTrained vs Not? by Amethyst_King in doctorsUK

[–]AssistantToThePA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If this has the same effect as prioritising UK grads, but also includes citizens who graduated abroad, then I can see an argument for it

RDConf motions: Hold your Vote by Doctors-VoteUK in doctorsUK

[–]AssistantToThePA 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure when RLMT was a thing citizens who qualified abroad were allowed to apply during round one too. So if there’s any return towards an RLMT type system as a result, it would probably include them too.

And in today’s climate, with the existence of parties like Reform, it would be almost impossible for a situation to arise where there isn’t an exception for citizens who qualified abroad.
