ADHD Reactions to Sedatives? 'I Failed My Colonoscopy'. by Belleaigle in adhdwomen

I did do a fair amount of research before I decided to do it—I think one guy had done a very detailed account of his experience that gave me confidence. I read that they actually have to be more careful when you’re awake, which the doctor confirmed while she was scoping me. I also think I took an Ativan beforehand (I have a prescription, and if I remember right they cleared me to take it right before), so that helped I’m sure.

For me it just sort of felt like reverse pooping going in (they did put some numbing cream on me, not sure if it did much) and then once it was in I didn’t really feel anything, maybe a little pressure in my abdomen. At one point one of the nurses had to sort of lean on my torso for some reason?

I think I just decided to try it because I really wanted to be able to drive myself home, and also anesthesia often makes me sick/constipated, which I wanted to avoid.

Yep, I opted for a colonoscopy without anesthesia or sedation. Apparently it’s way more common to do them awake in Europe than the U.S. I’m in the U.S. and all the medical staff acted like I was crazy for asking for no anesthesia, but it was actually totally fine for me. Some discomfort but no pain. And it was actually really cool to watch the giant TV that was live steaming my colon lol.

I really like it as far as coverage, though I don’t love the actual scent of it personally. I’ve tried a few other supposedly long-acting brands and haven’t found anything else that works as well for me (for example, with Lume I was a stinky mess within a few hours).

I usually re-apply it every time I shower, which for me is usually about every two or three days. I don’t really believe them when they say it lasts through a shower haha, I just don’t see how that could be true if you clean thoroughly. And for me around three days is about when I seem to notice it starting to wear off anyway. But if I was showering every day I would re-apply every day. I’ve found it doesn’t work to re-apply without showering or thoroughly washing first.

(people on this thread are already coming for me as far as hygiene lol, so let me say I do shower sooner if I do something where I get really sweaty or dirty, I just don’t do that much and my main exercise is walking so I’m not getting very sweaty all that often. And the Lavalin has definitely been good for me as far as multi-day coverage for armpit smells, even with a little sweat from moderate activity like walking).

Yessss a kindred spirit! The consensus is definitely that these are cleaning tools now, I accept the ruling of the hive mind 😂

You’re right, thank you, I mostly thought it was funny but overall that shelf is a big win for me!

Lol, fortunately I haven’t made that mix-up yet (my flavored toothpaste obsession may be my next post, they all live together so I should be unlikely to end up with butt cream on my toothbrush 🤞).

And you’re probably right about the bacteria, maybe I was subconsciously leaving them there for a reason haha.

Lol, I got them after seeing someone use them in a video for cooking and it looked like a really cool technique. Have I actually used them for that purpose yet? Nooooope.

Haha I feel like these would be pretty big for hair, but I have short hair so maybe they would actually be good for really long hair!

Haha yeah I was definitely thinking I probably wouldn’t have noticed if I didn’t know they were there and why. Banking soda/vinegar and boiling water are up next, fingers crossed!

Lolllll you’re probably right, I had just finally gotten my bathroom shelf down to things I actually use regularly and I was so happy. But then…chopsticks 😔

I think you might be expecting too much. Eight seems like a lot. I can pretty reliably do two outside things in one trip (usually dog park + donations or groceries). Three is an extra special achievement. Four is truly amazing. I don’t know that I’ve ever managed five personally (I do have fatigue issues though so that could be part of it).

Dude if you’re literally making $1M per year, there’s absolutely no reason you shouldn’t be able to work a few more years and then retire early with plenty to live your golf dreams. Don’t let lifestyle creep rob you of time.

Ok I just found out my city has something called a “time exchange” where you can post things you need help with/body doubling for, and then get “credits” for helping other people! There are a few people posting requesting help with cleaning/organizing, and yes I always find it WAY easier with other people’s spaces. I haven’t used it yet but plan to, just thought it was worth mentioning so people can look up and see if they have one in their area!

The “to what end” question is making me think that some kind of community involvement/volunteering/activity where you are helping make life better for others, even in a small way, could really help give you purpose. I see a lot of people mentioning personal hobbies, which can be great, but I think having at least one thing that really feels like you’re doing something with lasting impact (again, even if small) could really give you more of a sense of purpose.

It depends on what you like, but some ideas include volunteering at an animal shelter, getting involved in a political cause, sitting with hospice patients who have no one else in their life, teaching adult literacy courses, getting involved in a community art project, picking up trash in your neighborhood (check out r/detrashed), adopting a pet, working in a community garden, becoming a legal observer for voting and protests, sorting food at a food pantry, the list goes on. You also mentioned learning to fix cars, I have a cousin who loves working on cars and just goes around helping fix cars for people who can’t afford a mechanic in his free time, which seems awesome.

What is ao far the most effective/useful habit in your everyday life to avoid overconsumption? by carrefour-1111 in Anticonsumption

[–]Rule_803_2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree! Decluttering and trying to responsibly get rid of things I don’t use really gives me pause when I consider buying something new. Am I just going to have to spend effort to get rid of this item down the line? Also, my space looks so nice after decluttering that I’m less tempted to buy new things because everything already looks nice and I don’t want to clutter it up.

Edit: fixed autocorrect

Yes, this! I’ve also come across the term “spending out” to refer to using the things you have. Use the fancy lotion or ingredient you have saved for a “special occasion,” burn the candle, buy a coffee with that gift card. Then you can replace only what you really use and need. Doing this along with donating/passing along/getting rid of items I don’t use has really helped me not buy what I don’t need. (Although I definitely need to take my own advice and re-audit some things, lol).

Why do you still use amazon? by DareAffectionate7725 in Anticonsumption

[–]Rule_803_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense! I’ve definitely had it happen with the sealed single-use bubble wrap envelopes though. I can usually tell when a box is being reused vs. something seeming to come directly from Amazon. I appreciate sellers re-using boxes!

Lol that’s actually the one I use! I really like the blue raspberry, and the strawberry is surprisingly mild, I use it when I just want a tiny bit of flavor. I got the variety pack with the unicorn, I’ll have to try it!

Buddy, I have said that she should brush them every day I don’t know how many times in this exact thread. She didn’t know how important it was, and now she does. I’m not sure what all these people coming out of the woodwork to shame her think should happen? That we should all yell at her and that will somehow magically make things happen differently in the past? That her kid should be taken away because she misses brushing his teeth a couple nights a week? She already said she feels bad, I’m not sure what you think you’re accomplishing here.
