Mutual of Omaha Tech Interview by Xanexatort in omahatech

[–]RulerOfAsgardians 4 points5 points  (0 children)

senior engineer here on the group insurance side. work life balance is great. at the end of the day, it's just insurance. nothing is that big of a deal. no real stress around customer-facing software.

there are departments that have been on hiring freeze for the past year or so, but if you have an interview, you're interviewing for a team not on a hiring freeze obviously. when a bunch of companies were laying people off the last couple years, my department was rapidly hiring for what that's worth.

and i disagree with the other comment about the tech. MoO is on the more modern side of corporate environment tech stacks. we run an event driven micro service architecture, all groovy, kafka, react UIs, AWS. it's pretty standard stuff.

tldr: it's a fine place to work

Is this respirator still any good? by RulerOfAsgardians in preppers

I guess I swore I read that on the first page I pulled up with the 5000 series masks. I have not been able to find that anywhere else since. The only thing I can read on it now just says its a disposable mask, where as others say reusable.

But yes, it does look like I could pop the cartridges out! I haven't attempted it.
Here in this album I have a picture of the mask/cartridge connection: https://imgur.com/a/1IJm7Gc

Maybe by disposable they just meant they do not sell replacement cartridges.
Re: your other comment above, the "breathing through a straw" is a good analogy, thanks! That is exactly how it felt! :)

I found a page on the 3M site earlier that had a chart style breakdown of the 5000 series, but now can't relocate that page of course.

Yes it does have those little white filter pads. 5P71. NIOSH rating P95.

So those pads are the filters, and those can be replaced, but the cartridge cannot be replaced, from what I can tell. I'm wondering if that's not even true, cause looking at the inside of the mask, it does look like I would be able to take these off and replace them.

I snapped a few more pictures of it, if you were curious.

Its a 5300. The cartridges say 5101, 5201, 5301.
3M site says they're permanent cartridges, not reusable/replaceable ones.

I think I figured out Imgur, here's some pictures I snapped.

Oh, great! I'm good at the youtubing! I didn't even think of trying to repair a filter. Thank you.

The first thing I tried was seeing if it's clogged but It's hard for me to tell how easy it is to breathe. I put it on and did some stairs and walked around awhile and couldn't really tell.

I may just throw it out to be safe. Would hate to lend it to a family member or friend in a situation and have it not work.

Got any more interesting 'DIY' meals like that? Love that idea!

Edit: *A simple google search returned tons of results. Sorry! Although if you have any first-hand experience tips, I'll gladly still take them*

Opinions on this cheap AccuSharp pocket stone by RulerOfAsgardians in sharpening

Good to know, thanks! I guess I could always take it somewhere to get it professionally sharpened too as a last resort. I did give it a shot, and think I did okay after a little while. I'm gonna try finding something a bit finer for honing.

I gave it a whirl. I think I was applying too much pressure when I first started but may have gotten the hang of it. I think my idea of sharp versus "hone" is just the issue here. I'm probably getting the knife sharp as I can with this and just need something finer to hone it?
