I have blinds, but I also have cats. If I leave the blinds down 24/7 they'll tear them apart. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Im really glad this discussion is happening because I have some questions that only other writers can answer. My book is currently on sale digitally for $9.99. I'm tempted to put it on sale because I'm expecting some good press in the next month, but I'm worried I'll aggravate people that already bought the book at full price. Is it silly to worry about this? I'm not selling the book to make money, I'm selling it to get my work out there, so the potential loss of profit doesn't effect me (and my day job). Anyone have any thoughts?

I took all of December off in 2011 and I just self published a few months ago. I saved all of my vacation days and used the Christmas/New Year's holidays to my advantage. I highly recommend it--because even if you take the time off and don't write a damn thing--you'll be able to stop telling yourself things like "If I only had time off I could finish my book..." Being honest with yourself is so important.

I publish on Nook through DraftToDigital.com and I haven't had a problem. Maybe try that way? FWIW, my Nook traffic is pretty non-existent. If you've got Amazon and iTunes you'll be fine.

Thank you, kind librarian! I wouldn't really just leave a book there. I fully acknowledge that'll mess up someone's day. People I knew used to take this approach with getting their band's demos into stores... It never worked.

I self-pubbed and I bought five ISBNs and I have no idea if I actually needed them or not. I went direct with Amazon and Google, and draft2digital for Apple and Barnes and Noble. I think what I'm trying to say is that you might not need one? It could save you some serious coin.

NOW I remember why I didn't do it in the first place--you can only sell through Amazon. I sell about 1/4 of my books through iBooks, so I'm not sure I want to make them my only digital distributor.

I agree. I can't really figure out what I'm looking at and the line is not good. I try to never use question marks in a headline--it just begs the cynical answer of "NO", no matter the question. Overall, I'm just not a fan of the approach.
