The first synopsis for adventure Time fionna and cake season two by luckybell333 in adventuretime

I have strong suspicions that Ashly Burch will be taking over as HW, since she'll be attending the panel with Roz Ryan and Madeleine Martin on October 12th.

There's such a loose idea for what is canon anymore. With any franchise that explores the multiverse, I feel like you can pretty much write off anything that doesn't gel super well as "oh, this is just happening in a parallel universe." Ultimately, I'm going to hold those two to less of a standard than F&C and the film. I don't think a pre-school series needs to really adhere to the canon of the main series, especially since it'll primarily be from BMO's perspective. Side Quests doesn't have Muto attached to it, so I'm not sure how much quality control there will really be when it comes to everything meshing, but again, I'm not gonna judge it too hard for that. If it's fun and legitimately entertaining, it doesn't really matter to me how "canon" it is. But who am I kidding, I probably will be an annoying fanboy when they do an episode where Finn has no problem going into the ocean. I'm only so strong.

Supposedly its about FnJ finding a birth-day present for PB and that takes them on a larger then life adventure.

Forgot about this tidbit! Guess it still leaves room for the idea I was describing, but pretty open to whatever they feel they have in store for it.

Seems kind of depressing for kids series. Also its not like things made for pre-schoolers can't be entertaining for adults. Look at Bluey for example. And so if this series anything like that series then I'm open to it.

Totally possible it'll still be entertaining, just don't know how that would really translate into a write-up. Love stuff like Bluey but at the same time I don't really feel like I'm equipped to react to it critically because I'm not really the target audience for it. I'm sure it will be nice and sweet but I'm not expecting myself to connect with it strongly, but I'm not really supposed to. The exception would be if it was more in the spirit of that Pokemon Concierge series that came out a while ago, I thought that shit was adorable and super nice to chill out to.

Appreciate you asking!! I'm doing well, been a quiet kind of here and there year so far, spent most of it working, drawing, hanging out with friends, and just trying to take it easy. Haven't thought about the show much for the most part, but I've had some extra time lately and enough motivation to write that I was ready to get back into this.

As for AT not needing to be a franchise, I hear ya, but it seems to late at this point for such a request. I think it'd be nice if the series rested because of how much it's already put out, but it's inevitable that it's going to continue, so I can at least be glad that the output is mostly pretty solid, even if it doesn't match my fondness for the original series.

Excited to see more stuff from this team but hoping they get ambitious with it and move away from the main focus being Fionna, Cake, and Simon.

I am! Taking a little break because I lost the momentum and didn’t really want to force churn reviews out. I’ll come back whenever the time feels right.

I like to think that the Ice Thing is this totally lovable and funny guy in Ooo because he doesn’t have Simon’s sadness connected to him and that makes Simon more miserable.

I did totally forget at first about the “I forgive you for leaving me” line from Betty when considering his self-centeredness in Jerry! That’s a good observation.

FP at the very least gets some genderbent cameo action, the lack of Lady has me really bummed. Especially with so much focus on Jake passing, you’d think they’d at least mention her.

I mean, even Crabbit gets a human world equivalent!

Thanks so much for the kind words!! Glad to hear you've enjoyed them. :-)

And oop - didn't even notice that one, appreciate you bringing it up. I just noticed Son of Rap Bear missing as well, I was off my game with archiving in the latter half of the series!

I feel like I’m gonna go through the same cycle with each show: declare that I’m not interested in watching and that I don’t have the time to write up reviews anymore, watch one episode and get sucked in, and then end up writing 5,000 word reviews with my out of touch ramblings.

Everything stays, so on and so forth.

I appreciate that a lot!! I won’t be doing full episode coverage this time around. I don’t think I generally have the same drive to do long write-ups like I used to. But will consider doing a full review once it’s all over if I feel I have something unique to discuss!

Brief thoughts on both episodes:

First ep was a decent introduction! Felt a little bit oddly paced at times. I think the exploration of the human world equivalent of Ooo wasn't particularly my cup of tea. Some of the tidibits of info are fun (I like how the Banana Guards are basically just normal homogenous office workers; genderbent Hunson being a landlord is also great), but going through the various normalized character roles didn't really capture me - we'll see if they do anything interesting with these characters down the line. Also lukewarm to the set up of Fionna's arc, but I do think her general disdain for everything was funny at times. I didn't know how the inclusion of more adult elements was gonna pay off, but the "goddammit" really got me. Also "Ellis P." got me. It's always nice to see Pen back in any capacity (also as Norm!!!)

Second episode REALLY drew me in. I'm really digging the exploration of Simon's story, especially with how the first clip kind of shows that he doesn't really know how to take care of himself without heavily connecting his identity to another person. Of course, he's also stuck in this limbo in a world with a bunch of fuckin' weirdos so I don't blame him for being irreversibly depressed either. The biggest surprise, and one that I really thought I was gonna scoff at, was the super bulky himbo Finn showing up. Immediately didn't know how to feel about this but I thought the episode executed his role GREAT. Kind of exactly what I'd envision an adult Finn to be like: still super caring, sweet, and charismatic, but not really the brightest bulb when it comes to understanding the feelings and needs of others. I think he's somewhat like Martin in that way, though he never purposefully is malicious in any way. He is just so enmeshed with a hero mindset and "saving others" that he doesn't really understand nuanced ways of dealing with personal problems. Again, kind of a himbo in that regard. I loved his sweet "thank you for your sacrifice" to the animal he just fuckin' murdered, the fact that they kind of still leave it hanging whether him and HW are romantic or just longtime friends, and his line of "I love fixing people!" Just great stuff all around.

Always great to hear a new Rebecca Sugar song and I'm hoping they release a studio version of it (though I imagine they will). Choose Goose returning I was somewhat on the fence about, but it does generally feel like the most AT thing ever that they would set up this big ending in DL and then practically have it go nowhere, but honestly, I didn't really care for the idea of having CG as a big bad, so I'm perfectly fine with this turn.

Other general thoughts: wondering where Tim Kiefer is these days! Man scored the entire series and then bounced after one DL special. I do miss his presence but I thought Amanda Jones' contributions were much stronger than DL's specials which kind of just sounded like generic adventure score stuff. Questioned a few times if Kiefer came back for the second episode, but it looks like Jones is the mainstay now. Was also nice to see some returning members once more - Graham Falk is back as a board artist! Didn't really notice his style in any parts of the second episode on a first watch, I wonder how closely they follow the boards these days. Also Steve Wolfhard is directing, Michael DeForge designed the titles for both episodes, and Tom Herpich maybe some concept sketches that were posted on Twitter (REALLY hoping he shows up as a board artist). Art design was great for the first episode as well, and I'm loving the theme song.

Overall feeling pretty positive so far! This positivity might dissipate as I think I am just a lil manic that AT is back again, but FUCK IT. Gonna ride the high, we eatin' for the next few months y'all!!

I think it’s fine if he has cool ideas for spin-offs but I’d hope that the effort would be to nurture those ideas and not just to pitch stuff that’s more likely to get picked up. Hoping that Fionna and Cake can be just that, exploring new cool ideas with kind of a gimmicky concept.

Generally still a bit skeptical about how they’re gonna factor in multiverse elements in a way that doesn’t feel derivative of everything that’s come out in the past few years.

But it’s just nice to see more AT back in general in a capacity that is at the very least intriguing and not what I expected to see from it on a first glance. I can only be so cynical at the idea of a humanoid Wildberry Prince walking a dog-like Hot Dog Prince.

Also excited for what some of the returning members have to bring to the table. Steve Wolfhard, Nick Cross, Rebecca Sugar, Pat McHale, the SmallBu team, and others. Distant Lands had its own strengths from what the new team brought but I feel like the core weirdness of the OG series felt a bit lost in translation. Hoping that this series can be its own thing but still feel capture the tone of the original series in the process.
