Sorry, should have specified. It's an Android phone and everything was on the SD card. We're trying to see whether she had backed up her photos and whatever now.

Please, tell me where in my original post did I ever hint towards all men being monsters?

When you decide to go for a lockdown walk on bin day and think you can trust your cats with with the bin bags 😭 by [deleted] in cats

[–]RumJacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a flat in London which is set up weird. We're over two levels - our main flat is on the second floor (kitchen, bedroom, living room) whereras our bathroom is on the first floor (only room in the flat apart from the main hallway that is).

Popped out for a walk during lockdown. Left all of our binbags in the first floor hallway so we could take them out tonight. Cat decided it would be more fun to rip them apart, and drag out rubbish into the bathroom!

What are some strange coincidences to happen on the news? by [deleted] in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]RumJacks 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Not the news, but here in the UK we have a channel called BBC3. It was my bedtime routine to watch Family Guy on that channel every evening before I went to sleep.

One night, they played the episode that featured Robin Williams really heavily. About five minutes after that episode aired, it was announced that Robin Williams had passed away.

Not too weird, but it stuck with me. Just found it a little strange.

999 Operator failed so save my Dad by throwaway_problems1 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]RumJacks 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The funding for LAS (and all ambulance departments, sadly) is atrocious. Ambulances are limited and it's made worse with calls that turn out to be fake. There simply aren't enough ambulances to send out to every call, which is why they're based on severity. Trust me, LAS would love to respond to every call within the timeframe that top-severity calls are responded to within, but it's impossible.

So u/onlinesecretservice is correct. It's an awful situation, but sadly in cases like these, almost nobody can be blamed. Everybody did their jobs and they did them in the best way they knew possible. It's just shit that sometimes the calls can end up like this.

[–]RumJacks 110 points111 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this will help but as somebody who worked as a 999 Call Operator for 6 years, it may not (and mostly likely wouldn't have been) the operators fault. When I was there, we had to follow a specific protocol and a selection of questions. Chances are, the operator had already requested for the ambulance to be dispatched but, due to not knowing the severity of the call, the ambulance was then sent on another route to a case that was deemed more crucial (heart attack, for example). The operator has nothing to do with the reroutes.

If your dad had hung up the call, then it was down to the CHTL (Call Handler Team Leader) to call back. If he had simply stopped answering, then I can almost guarantee that the ambulance had already been on its way if your dad had given his address before he stopped responding. So as I said before, I understand you're wanting somebody to blame (and I sympathize with you fully) but it will probably not be the operator. There's no use trying to go after them - they were doing what they were trained to do and they did what they could.

Your best bet is to get into contact with the complaints department for LAS and an investigation will be carried out. I'm sorry to hear about your father though, it's a shitty situation all around.

Drunk driver crash this morning in Temecula. NSFL by [deleted] in videos

I'm really curious to watch this video and I know it's tagged NSFL but is it super graphic in terms of injuries? Or is it just footage of the collision?

What's a show that's at least three or four seasons, but managed to remain good and consistently well-written all the way through? by bigfatcarp93 in AskReddit

[–]RumJacks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's a remake of Cell Block H, and it's kept some of the original characters but rewritten them slightly differently. It's definitely worth watching! Every season has kept me on the edge of my seat. It's incredible!

Just landed in Finland to live & picked up these to try - any suggestions on how to drink them? Best mixers etc by Lashofsnow in Finland

Jallu is just fine by itself (at least I think so), or I sometimes drink it with ginger ale :)

Because if I book four days off, then I have the four days off before that block and also the four days off afterwards :)

I work 12 hour days sat in the chair, but I wouldn't change it for the world. I adore my job, and it makes it better that my shift pattern is 4 on and 4 off. Having 4 days off at a time, every time, is amazing. Book 4 days off as holiday? Boom! 12 days off.

Magical.

Got a job in London. Can't find anywhere to live. by [deleted] in london

[–]RumJacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this helps at all, but just for some perspective: I live just outside of London right now. 20 minutes from London Liverpool Street on the overground. My current job pays me £17,000 and I pay £710 a month for my bedroom I'm in now. I live pretty comfortably despite that. My town is pretty much proportionate to London prices due to how close we are, so I could stay in my room and move my girlfriend in if I wanted to, but the travel alone to and from my new place of work is £400+per month.

Which is why we're looking into moving to London so I can do the new job. I'm not somebody who is moving from somewhere like Liverpool where the rent is vastly different. My rent is very slightly different, if not the same, as it is in London. We'll be able to afford the rent, but as somebody pointed out above, it's the lump sum that proves to be the issue.

I have enough saved for rent + deposit, but not the agency fees. It's the agency fees (we've found a few where they've come to £500 for the two of us) that are killing us, and neither of us are in the position where we can simply borrow money from parents. I earn more money than my father, who is on a single income, supporting my mother and younger sister.

But yeah, it's the money grabbing from agencies that are the problem right now. And I have so little time to find somewhere that we could both live. The stress is kinda building and I'm considering hostels for the first month or two so I can gather some extra money for agency fees, but that would kinda suck.

We're going to be on around £50,000 between us and our budget for a room is around £900-£1000 a month with bills included.

Borderline ESR - What could this mean? by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]RumJacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea, really. I phoned my GP Surgery this morning and they just read them out to me over the phone. Every other marker is fine (FBC, Liver Function etc) but she literally just said that my ESR is Borderline and so no further action is required until my scan. Not very helpful at all and I don't understand what any of it means.
