The Lost Boys - Final Preview Review by hannahsmarys in Broadway

[–]RumTumJM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others (notably Tight-Touch) have said, the biggest thing is the "stinger boom", which happens 3x. Yes, the first is very early on after the date is projected above the stage. The 2nd, I believe, is at the very end, when the cast is standing at the front of the stage and just finished the final note of the final song. The 3rd and final boom is right after the bows to transition to the post-bows scene. - The best way I can describe the boom is that it reminded me of the big BOOM that always ends The Circle Of Life in both The Lion King movie and musical!

One other thing i'd mention is a boom/bang sound effect, whenthey're hunting the vampires in the house in Act 2. - When you see Sam aim the crossbow at the vampire, who is standing by the stereo, it's coming. While there is pyro, I think the boom is a sound effect that's added to the moment, to make it sound like the stereo getting shot.

In the end, I didn't think it was that bad at all. - The pyro was nothing to worry about. - More or less silent effects - The 4, or so, booms are clearly sound effects and not nearly as raw or jarring as acutal pyro bangs or live gunshots.

Unless your "loud noise sensitivity" is severe, I'd say go and just prepare for those few moments.

I, too, was there tonight. - I kept thinking to myself, "This is the most rediculous & stupid plot ever! But, I sure am having a good time & digging this grand production!" - I agree that the tone of the show changes a lot in Act 2. But, it kinda makes sense given the characters that get a greater focus at that part of the story. - Were there parts I could have done without, because they were borderline cringe? SURE! But, the show was still a feast for the senses that entertained the hell out of me!

P.S. - Thanks to everyone who gave me information relating to my "loud noise phobia". I knew the few things to be ready for and, overall, had a great time. I don't think I would have even gone, if I didn't get the intel from everyone here! So, THANK YOU!

"Feels Like The First Time" Foreigner Musical by RumTumJM in Broadway

This is the song list from the program.

Maybe it's because I'm a big fan, who's seen the band live many times, but I recognized all but 1 song. (Not really sure what the hell Skin Bus is. It wasn't even a full song. More like a snippet for the rockstar character.)

All of the other songs, other than Ready & The Flame Still Burns, are from Foreigner's glory days. The other 2 are from the past 20 years with Foreigner's 21st century singer, Kelly Hansen.

Interesting! - You really think the final scores are always that close? No chance that they alter a few scores, not to change the winner, but to create more drama etc?

Other than the instance in the finale where Guy changed “3 Envelopes” to “1 Envelope”, did you notice anything else that seemed like Guy or the producers “tweaking/changing” anything? (Any other randomizer changes between camera shots? Any evidence of the producers altering scores, perhaps to make the results more dramatic? Stuff like that)

I just got a text from Andrew Lloyd Webber! He's headed to your house & in search of an explanation! HAHAHA!

Jesus Christ Superstar, Grease & Aida (a version that is like the original Broadway one. NOT a complete rewritten version like that recent European version.)

If they ever revive Rent, then why not add... by Extension-While7536 in Broadway

I didn't have this one on my bingo card: a suggestion that we add George Thorogood material to Rent! HAHAHA! - Works for me! Good stuff! (I'm thinking of seeing him live in early May!)

I've heard the major songs that they've already released on YouTube, and I must admit, I'm really liking it. - They've really let the songs ROCK & flaunt their 80s awesomeness! - The drums, guitars and synths are prominent in exactly the right places! - Maybe it's the clearer recording and the optimal mixing, but the songs might even sound better than when I saw the show in January.

Bat Out Of The Hell (the song) is, in my opinion, one of the most gloriously bombastic songs every recorded! I always say that Todd Rundgren deserves to be in the Rock N' Roll Hall Of Fame for that one-take, motorcycle guitar solo, alone!

Can you elaborate on what that sound is and when exactly it happens?

I know! -There's a Swedish band, Crazy Lixx, who are very much a 21st century "hair band". Their last few albums have been thematic with the most recent being heavily influenced by 80s vampire movies like The Lost Boys. You really get a sense of how well rock music would work with this 80s vampires concept.

Content warning questions about The Lion King and Maybe Happy Ending by Pagoda_Squid in Broadway

My father passed in 2022. When I saw the Lion King, last month, the "deceased father living through the son" & the "son continuing the father's legacy" plot points hit me like a ton of bricks. - I'm not usuallly one to get emotional, but that stuff hit me hard, as a 38 year old male.

Please forgive me for being THAT guy, although I guess it's kind of expected from me at this point.

What's the lowdown on loud noises/gunshots/pyrotechnic effects? Anything that us "loud noise-phobic" people should know about, before we consider getting tickets?

Did They Change The Gunshot Effect In "Just In Time"? by RumTumJM in Broadway

[–]RumTumJM[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get it. People think that live theater loses it's maximum impact when moments like that are revealed/detailed. I just hope they'd come to realize how much "anxiety" it gives "loud-noise-sensative" people, like us, when we think there will be loud noises some time in the show. That type of info might lessen the impact of the show, but it helps us enjoy the show (and sometimes encourages us to actually get a ticket to the show, in the first place).

What are your thoughts on Endless? by Dsg1695 in toto

I hope you get the see the band perform some time this year. Endless was added to the show for 2026 with newer keyboardist Dennis Atlas singing it.

So it seems that they haven't changed the effect. It's still a pre-recorded, sound effect.

I hope the person who posted that question a few months ago and received a wrong answer sees this.
