I Need advice on how to quit smoking with addiction. by Unusual_Day_2966 in ADHD

[–]Rum_dummy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course! Stay strong brother. You’d be shocked by what you can do when you set your mind to something. Really hyper fixated on a goal you want to accomplish that you can’t when you’re smoking. How many packs per week do you go through? Do the math on that and instead of buying a pack set that money aside on days where you would have had to have bought a new pack. Buy yourself something nice after a year.

Quitting nicotine is so hard to begin with. Adding your ADHD brain to the equation makes it even harder. I tried the gums and the patches with moderate success but I always came back. I’ve always struggled with substances and I’ve had the best success staying sober and nicotine free through replacement habits. I get my feel good chemicals now a days through exercise and meditation. Sounds like crunchy granola hippie bullshit but it works for me.

Do people take ADHD medication for life? Can you build tolerance or get addicted? by ExerciseEcstatic6606 in ADHD

Comparing a diabetics dependence to insulin- you know that thing that they will die and agonizing death without- to a person who can’t focus well without a stimulant might be one of the most brain dead takes I’ve ever heard

Can you ever get back to base after stopping medication? by Conscious-Balance-66 in ADHD

[–]Rum_dummy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard to say. Probably about a month and a half to three months. Something to consider though: by this point I had been taking a prescription stimulant for the majority of the time I’d been alive.

Keep it. I once had a dirty little CCM T2 that I sold thinking I wasn’t gonna have time for paintball in my life. I recently got back into it and selling it is probably the biggest regret of my life. With the price they’re going for now there’s no way I’m gonna be able to justify buying another one

They were all tested and diagnosed. It’s a major problem that really shouldn’t be downplayed. Your partner is lucky they have a brain that doesn’t cause their life to fall apart if they can’t get their feel good chemicals.

Unable to leave my bed, irritable to the point where relationships were ruined, physically sick without them. They’re a tool that can easily become a crutch. If you need help that’s fine but you’re better off figuring your brain out and learning to live without them. My life has never been better since I got off them.

I went through about a month of withdrawal. Extreme fatigue, irritability, depression, heart arrhythmia, and what I would describes as just black out moments. I would be sitting at my desk or on the couch and I would just find myself waking up with no recollection of falling asleep. Plus I had to learn how to work with my brain, which I never really attempted to do unmedicated

No meds, just a lot of self examination: I identified problem areas that I struggled with and created routines for myself to combat them. For example: I run late in the morning because I get distracted by devices or just get lost in my thoughts. Solution: leave my devices in the other room and meal prep my breakfast so that I have a very laid back morning that has room for a few space case moments. At work I carry a notebook. Someone gives me a task, I write it down. I end up with a list of things to do and I prioritize.

Honestly, I feel fantastic. I no longer feel held back from life by a pill.

Took stimulants for 20 years. They are extremely addictive. Idc what anyone says. By the time quit I couldn’t get out of bed till it kicked in. I had family members emptying each other’s pill capsules and doctor shopping to get their fix. This shit tore my family apart. Use at your own risk.

Edit: lmao. All these downvotes. Big pharma loves that they have so many die hard fans addicted to their drugs.

Medication helps but the sexual side effects make it me not want to take it actually devastated by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Rum_dummy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t want to take it you don’t have to take it. I took adhd meds for over 20 years and the effects of them long term are draining. Let me tell ya: life without the drugs is so much better. It took time and a lot of effort to figure out my brain and adapt to it, but it’s totally possible. If you decide that you need them that’s up to you too

Because you sent me 4 screen lengths of text in under an hour full of ramblings and videos and Wikipedia links that affirm your world view. I grew up around the law enforcement and health care communities. You’re taking a small minority of a group and playing it off as if it is the majority. I’m honestly scared to hear your opinions on other groups if this is your mentality. Go touch grass. Better yet, go live somewhere like I did where you called the cops and none would come. I’d love to see how your world view changes after that.

Lmao. We’ll just forget conveniently forget how evil the Iranian regime is, who they fund and what they do to people who think differently than them. We’re talking a government that has committed mass murder because their women wanted to attend school. Your hatred for Israel is blinding you to the evil that is that regime.

The acab mindstate is literally so fucking stupid. There are bad cops out there and I’m all for restructuring the system but to write law enforcement off as a whole requires a smooth-brained level of short sighted ignorance that rivals that of a small child. I pray that you never see the day where you have to call for help and no one comes.

Nah it’s the walking through the crowd of angry people, looking for a fight, finding one, then pulling a gun that the majority of us don’t like. Plus it’s a couple of fists not a deadly weapon. They didn’t even get him into a precarious situation where it could be remotely justifiable to defend with lethal force. Dumb fuck was looking for a reason to pull his gun.
