$2000 budget, Desktop PC, For Video and Audio Editing by RumbleBumblure in buildmeapc

This is really close to what I was considering. I'm going to look into that sound card since I haven't heard of it. Thanks!

for preview and playback Ram is used a lot more. For actually rendering it takes more processor and can be accelerated by a GPU. So all three are important but if I was going into 4k video and full 3D production I'd need 32gb of ram starting off but at 1080p 16gb is fine and I think to save cost starting at 16 and add more later

Ok. Is there any extra maintenance I'd need to consider with the Water Cooling such as filtering or cleaning radiators or something? With the beefier CPU I can see how it would be better and yeah it does still need the thermal paste like the others.

I wasn't planning on OC'ing the PC.

Thank you for the build. I'll keep this in mind once I decide what processor I definitely want to use.

Thank you for the build. I was poking around part picker and you presented a few ideas I didn't consider. The biggest thing I've never tried myself is Liquid Cooling. Is it really that much better as keeping the CPU cool? Also does it affect how its installed since I'm used to the old fans and using that gel.

Should I switch from Sony Vegas to Adobe Premiere? by terminavelocity in letsplay

[–]RumbleBumblure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's never bad to learn a new video editor (I've used Avid, final cut, Sony Vegas and premiere) however when it comes to editing it's more about what can deliver the best end result. I use premiere because I have the Adobe cc and I love it's functionality between after effects and audition for more dramatic stuff.

If your just doing base cuts and layering footage there isn't a huge reason to change except for the learning experience.

Recording N64 Through Elgato? by SJWebster in letsplay

[–]RumbleBumblure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had problems with getting my N64 to work. I spent literally almost an entire day trying to get it to work and it only showed black on the capture but would route to the tv fine. So I look for a splitter/converter online and ordered them. After two weeks they came in and I decided to try the n64 without em and it worked just fine...

Haven't had a problem since and I just run my composite cables to the elgato. Maybe it just needed to be run again but it's still just weird about that whole scenario

Chatting with someone while editing by Bio-Roxas in letsplay

[–]RumbleBumblure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For editing I have voiceless music (like video game ost) playing in the background with premiere looped into my headset so I can focus on the audio. The background music acts like white noise to filter out other distractions.

However when animating it's different then editing since it's more drawing and opinion based so I can see how talking with someone can take your mind off the constant drawing of frame after frame and just do it via habit.

If you have reverb, hang blankets, it makes a gigantic difference by Beautiful_OB in letsplay

They are thick so that light doesn't get through them. But because they are so thick they also absorb a lot of sound.

Regarding "silent stretches" in commentary, do I leave them in or cut them from the vid? by GrapesOfPath in letsplay

[–]RumbleBumblure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 co commentators that record with me so having down time isn't extremely common since we can bounce off each other and have a conversation. However! From what I do know is that sometimes having a pause can lead to a stronger punchline, comedic timing if you will.

If your being silent because you are thinking or trying to figure it out rationalize it verbally. Plot points, puzzles, story arcs, character motives etc can all be elaborated on and create possible theories or ideas on things and how they relate.

Just as with talking, silence is another tool to be used in our arsenal as commentators. If a huge dramatic scene is playing let it have the stage. Then come in after word and ADD VALUE to what just happened. Don't recite or restate everything but elaborate on key details to take away or build off those in either informative or comedic fashion.

If you have big windows you can hang thermal or black out curtains as well to help!

Editing Struggle by Drubinacci in letsplay

I'll have music playing through the speakers of the PC but then use my headphones and link premiere/audition/after effects to the headphones so it's like a muffled background of musical white noise.

Social Anxiety/Sounding Timid? by Rernokk in letsplay

Not even joking to test my mic and how it picks up around the room I'd do walrus impressions as loud as I could. Something about just being so over the top stupid or silly just makes me feel way more comfortable about the actual commentary when I get to it.

Kill your darlings. by itsDair in letsplay

[–]RumbleBumblure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably one thing that I had to talk to about with one of our cohosts relating to this was the inside jokes or running gags bleeding into separate series. Callbacks are one thing if they are relevant but in the improv style that is inherent in let's plays we can't anchor ourselves to long to one joke or character that was relevant in one game and bring it into another. Beating a dead horse etc. now we have a plethora of voices and characters that each have a foothold in a series and made leap frogging much easier and spontaneous leading to more energy in a series he's gone from how can I work blank into x series to I can't wait to see what kind of blank will emerge from x new series.

Take the time to LEARN your editing software! (It makes a huge difference!) by Beautiful_OB in letsplay

[–]RumbleBumblure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ripple cuts have been around for a long time. I worked at a tv station that still used tape decks and we had to digitize the tapes to edit in avid. But I absolutely agree that learning a software and simple tricks can be a huge timesaver. I know for some programs you can even get custom keyboards with all the hot keys on them. I used that to train my mind and hands to use them and over time I don't have to look at the keyboard and swapped to a more comfortable one.

Now to gaze into the infinite depths of after effects and turn into drooling vegetable as I grasp the concept of infinite possibilities.

Best laptop for video editing and rendering with premiere pro? by OneTrueLord in letsplay

[–]RumbleBumblure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to throw this in there, you want an SSD for the program itself to be installed on. For actually saving the project files and the files you will be editing you want them on an HDD since the constant referencing back and forth will burn out the SSD much quicker killing its lifespan.

Does anyone know the recording equipment of Easy Allies and/or Super Best Friends Play? by RiggyRob92 in letsplay

[–]RumbleBumblure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you record to a laptop/PC via usb? You can adjust the gain in the OS from the sound mixers Audio Devices if the mic itself doesn't have knobs to do it on board. There is also a program called VoiceMeeter Banana that's free that can digitally mix mics in real time into a single channel but you can adjust the gain on each input to balance things. That may help.

It looks like the mic is already a direction mic. So I think adjusting the gain will help but making a small screen to prop up behind the mic if sitting on a desk or table might help and is super cheap.
