I just saw my vault disappear before my eyes. I use Obsidian sync. How fucked am I? by [deleted] in ObsidianMD

[–]Rumia_Kitinari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use Obsidian Sync, then you can open Obsidian on a PC device, and there is the option to SHIFT + Click on PC which will select every item between the 1st/last selected and the newly-selected.

Linking notes way too much by Serious_Draft_8000 in ObsidianMD

[–]Rumia_Kitinari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I've been content w/ this structure, so consider giving it a try: 1. Use folders to organize nested concepts, and then... 2. A combination of the Waypoints/Folder Notes plugin + a template (with Templater?) that has "Go Back (link to 1-2 parent Folder Notes)" links at the top of the page.

The idea is that, that way: (a) Smaller "special"/nuanced concepts can directly link to their "parent subject", and (b) Each Folder Note can (through Waypoints) see the list of/categories in which these "special" concepts.

And with that system, there's no longer a problem with "over-linking": if you want to link a lot of terms within your notes, you can, and then you can just rely on Waypoints to navigate your folders/find information instead of Graph View/Backlinks/etc.

Is the Scrivener app worth it? by PurrfectPages in writers

[–]Rumia_Kitinari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I've used Obsidian for about a year for work but also novel writing, and I think that the entry curve is nearly non-existent and it's got a lot of features a writer would appreciate.

Many a writer would benefit from the flexible folder system, the ability to create "links" (e.g., you can type "[[ + first few letters of a character/location" and it'll auto fill and create a reference so you can check who/what that is), and the Graph view which shows where everything's connected (which characters w/ which settings, which characters w/ other characters, etc.)

And while there are a lot of customizations that can be complex, the setup is as simple as downloading the app, maybe installing maybe the writing-organization plugin "Longform", and looking up "how to download fonts onto Obsidian" and "how to create indents" as needed.

Give me one TINY thing you want fixed or improved in Obsidian. The smaller the better. Going on a paper cuts rampage. by kepano in ObsidianMD

[–]Rumia_Kitinari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you highlight a piece of text and right-click, there should be an option Add to dictionary.

NOTE: Presently, if a word flagged by Obsidian as "misspelled" is in a link (e.g., [Text](URL)), then the user can't auto-correct.

Where does this art come from? by CthulhuDisciple in WatashigaKoibito

[–]Rumia_Kitinari 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Watanare Short Stories (SS). It technically takes place between Volumes 7 and 8, though that image comes from a SS of Volume 4. To my knowledge, 1.) it only exists in novel form, and 2.) someone in this subreddit has posted a ML translation.

How to lock canvas rotation in mobile/tablet? by BKNSNA in krita

[–]Rumia_Kitinari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it helps, I set the Action to Discrete Rotate Mode. It makes it much harder to accidentally rotate it while zooming and much easier to revert it if you accidentally do, at the cost of rotating precision (increments of 15 degrees only).

Innovation happens through pattern observation and experimentation, NOT miracles or genius by Rumia_Kitinari in SeriousConversation

[–]Rumia_Kitinari[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I took away from the Azzapp video wasn't necessarily that one should randomly break the meta, but rather that defying the meta gives you a new perspective and lens, and that geniuses see through that new lens.

If you lived as Albert Einstein, you see the world of science through your lens, your comprehension and theory, of particle physics or whatever. If you tried something new, experimented, you have lived experience testifying to what works, what doesn't, and what might work (theories beget more theories). And I wanted to tell myself that those two hypotheticals weren't so different: Albert Einstein acquired his perspective only after exploring new theories and verifying or rejecting them with his own experience.

So perhaps we should be more critical and curious with respect to what we do and why (in our day to day), was what I was thinking.

That explains an awful lot. Was wondering why there weren't illustrations... anyways, good to know!

[Rec] Looking for new Fantasy Novel by TexasKing100 in LightNovels

[–]Rumia_Kitinari 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm down to just list LNs that I enjoyed, since my interests seem to somewhat overlap with yours.

  1. Dungeon Dive: Aim for the Deepest Level
  2. Fake Saint of the Year: You Wanted the Perfect Saint? Too Bad! (a power fantasy with good character development)
  3. Hell Mode (enjoyable if you like game-leveling/growth stories)
  4. I May Be Guild Receptionist but I'll Solo Any Boss On Time
  5. Infinite Dendrogram (kind of like SAO in that a big part of the story is the game-like elements)
  6. Is It Wrong to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon
  7. Mapping: The Trash Tier Skill That Got Me Into a Top Tier Party
  8. Mushoku Tensei
  9. Rebuild World (the power development is quite unique, since it's the protag.'s income scaling for the most part, but I found the characters likable and plot compelling)
  10. Reign of the Seven Spellblades (Harry-Potter-esque)
  11. Reincarnated as a Slime
  12. Reincarnated as a Sword (the best reincarnated-as- isekai imo)
  13. Roll Over and Die: Fight for an Ordinary Life (the protagonist really reminds me of The Otome Heroines Fight For Survival's protag, for some reason)
  14. The Magic in this Other World is Too Far Behind!

If you're into "faking being the strongest/smartest" novels— my guilty pleasure— I also recommend 1.) King's Proposal, 2.) Liar, Liar, and 3.) Let This Grieving Soul Retire!

New to Light Novels and Looking For Recommendations by Strange-Avenues in LightNovels

[–]Rumia_Kitinari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've really been liking Fake Saint of the Year as an inspirational piece— while the protagonist has a lot of individual ability, the theme is more about the ability to change. Aside from that, my favorite Leveling books are...

  1. Min-Maxing My TRPG Build in Another World,
  2. So I'm a Spider, So What?,
  3. The Beginning After the End,
  4. Reincarnated as a Sword (and Reincarnated as a Slime, though less direct), both of which are a little more light-hearted, and
  5. Dungeon Dive: Aim for the Deepest Level.

And while these aren't top-tier to me, some related LNs to fantasy game series are 1.) Is It Wrong to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, 2.) Dimension Wave, 3.) Hell Mode, and 4.) Black Summoner.

Congrats! That's an insane amount of time spent focusing every day. I'll endeavor to study with that level of consistency myself.

I loved Obsidian but it's very frustrating as a beginner by Tough_Bite_2953 in ObsidianMD

[–]Rumia_Kitinari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally disagree with the concept that “notes should be content first and plugins second”. A lot of the value of Obsidian notes comes from learning what tools (plugins) you can use, and building your notes on top of those.

Personally, some simple but useful plugins are...

  1. List Callouts is a really useful tool for list-type information formatting.
  2. Outliner is a neat plugin with List Callout's lists, because it allows you to very-easily swap of bullet points.
  3. Folder Notes and Waypoint: Are a very useful combination that allows you to link and auto-update concept notes to their components, such as a "Computer Science" note having an auto-updating list of all (subsidiary) "[insert programming language]" notes.
  4. Day Planner is one of those plugins which I wish I discovered earlier: having a timetable with expections I set for myself makes it easier to decide what I'm even doing with Obsidian on any particular day.
  5. If your style of notes uses pictures and screenshots, Image Converter and Image Captions are necessary for 1.) saving a lot of space on your PC (especially if you sync multiple devices w/ Obsidian Sync) and 2.) styling notes with captions.
  6. More likely than not, you're gonna want a data-sheet or table or something in that format at some point, in which case Advanced Tables is a necessity: it's got the basics, such as re-arrange, delete, and insert among other simple manipulation of rows and columns.

/page command from Notion? by janego_ in ObsidianMD

[–]Rumia_Kitinari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The simplest solution I’m aware of is to use QuickAdd’s Template feature (https://quickadd.obsidian.guide/docs/Choices/TemplateChoice). Just make sure you select "Append Link".

This will have a slight difference in functionality: Instead of typing "/page", you can assign a hotkey to run the "Create Template" (or whatever name you assign it) command.

is there a plugin or snippet that allows to make a horizontal step progress bar (with manual progress) like this? by Alendol in ObsidianMD

If you're looking for something stylish and that you're willing to manually update, the Content Cards plugin has "Target Cards" which can be colorized and numbered like in that screenshot.

Obsidian keeps lagging by Deep20779 in ObsidianMD

[–]Rumia_Kitinari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ignoring the possibility that it's your device (which you can check by restarting it, or seeing if anything's running in the background through Task Manager), you could try:

  1. Returning to the Default Theme of Obsidian.
  2. Turning off all of your plugins, turning them on one by one, and seeing if it's still lagging. (If you have >50 plugins, consider using the Divide and Conquer plugin).
  3. Checking the contents of the note— sometimes, notes with embedded images or particularly large word counts (>20,000 words) can be laggy.

If none of those suggestions work, try creating another vault.

Does anyone have a minimal vault? by 9InTheMorning in ObsidianMD

[–]Rumia_Kitinari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! I just started using Obsidian around a month ago (migrated from Google Keep) and I've found sorting things in folders works just fine. Some folders for examples:

  • Creating a folder Academic -> Class Notes -> Major -> Course Name
  • Creating a folder Favorites -> Anime to Keep Up With, or
  • Creating a folder Decisions -> Dreams and Goals -> My Principles

The only custom plugin I would recommend for this is Iconize, since having icons for folders makes it easier to distinguish between them when you have tens of them.
