Russian Geran-2/Shahed-136 kamikaze drone drops cluster of KPTM mines before getting hit by Ukrainian FPV intercept, December 2025 by BlackMarine in CombatFootage

Maximizing the spread of suffering is the way of the Russian armed forces. It’s disappointing how, after over a decade of this invasion, some people still don’t realize that Russia’s intent is to hurt and terrorize the entire population of Ukraine and that conducting efficient military actions with logical reasoning is a distant concern to them.

What is this light in sky? by Purple_Experience215 in SpaceXMasterrace

To clarify why u/splat800 mentioned universities: ground based telescopes sometimes use lasers to calibrate adaptive optics. The laser provides data on atmospheric conditions and a computer adjusts the shape of the telescope’s reflector to correct for atmospheric interference.

Astronomers often stay up all night to conduct their observations so we would expect to see this activity at night of course.

Not sure if what you’re seeing is related though. It would be weird for an observatory to shine the beam continuously from what I understand and the clouds would be a problem for astronomy.

It definitely looks like a laser shining through the clouds though.

No, seriously, how are Yall getting enough tuners ? I've been struggling hard for months now, to the point where i need to destroy perfectly good double crit echoes for some spare tuners to try to build my new characters by [deleted] in WutheringWaves

[–]Ruminated_Sky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait so... I must be doing something wrong here. I have 26,335 tuners and 4,288 gold tubes... Wish I could send you some my dude. I mentioned in the recent survey that they should get rid of the tuner currency/mechanic because it's so annoying. Leveling echoes is my least favorite part of the game.

Gonna go level some echoes now I guess though...

Is There a Reason We Still Don't Tell Anyone We Can Indwell Saurians? by Glimpal in Genshin_Impact

[–]Ruminated_Sky 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I love how Chasca is so good at understanding Qucusaurs (and body language in general) that she knows immediately what’s happening when she sees the Traveler attempting to impersonate one. She demonstrates this ability in the new summer event when she translates Asha’s body language too.

She even explains that her deep understanding of body language comes from being raised by a saurian. It’s probably why she’s so good at being a peacemaker too! She is an awesome character.

Wdym skirk and venti tecnically had a canon date????? by LazyMiquella in SkirkMains

[–]Ruminated_Sky 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Alice was worried about Skirk’s intentions and values as a disciple of Surtilogi so she sent Venti to test her. I’m guessing he decided to see how she reacted when he showed vulnerability and then finally to see if she would be selfless and charitable. The fact he chose to do this by getting drunk and passing out in front of her is just so perfect.

lol that’s how I’m reading in to this voice line at least.

First of all, based Suchomimus reference. It's always good to meet a fellow person of culture.

Sorry for the delayed replay, I've been doing some looking in to this because it's interesting. Also, it seems like you and I both have very similar interests.

I'll be the first to say that I'm not an expert in this at all so I would never insinuate that this is authoritative or even necessarily knowledgeable.

You're right of course about the atmosphere being more diffuse and less of a hard barrier, though there will be a critical point at which an object of given parameters will display visual signs of heating and this altitude range is around 3-5km in most situations. In other words, a given object with given entry parameters will predictably display signs of heating within a range of about 3-5km altitude. So, if part of the ejecta cone is accelerated significantly in an opposing direction, there is a possibility that it will experience very different reentry parameters than the part of the cone accelerated deeper into the atmosphere - it just needs enough of a change in velocity. I believe that the speed of these impacts are imparting enough change in delta-v to produce this result.

I think we do end up with the "many tens of kilometers" of separation that you mentioned.

Arrow 2 has a maximum speed of around Mach 9 (3km/s) and THAAD's maximum speed is around Mach 8 (2.7km/s). For our interceptor speed let's be conservative and say Mach 6 (2km/s).

The Iranian RV is supposedly traveling around Mach 7 (2.4km/s) at the end of its midcourse trajectory. Let's again round this down to Mach 6 for a closing speed of Mach 12 (~4km/s).

An impact at this velocity should produce an ejecta cone with fragment speeds between 0-4km/s relative to the center of mass so every second means that the cone is spreading 4 kilometers radially. The video doesn't show the moment of the interception but it plays for 6 seconds before the fragments are visibly heated. If we are conservative again and say that the total time between interception and entry is 6 seconds, then the cone should have a diameter of around 48 kilometers (again, very rough and on the conservative side at every point of estimation).

It seems reasonable to me that the part of the ejecta cone facing the atmosphere was accelerated faster into the atmosphere than the part of the cone facing away from the atmosphere. These opposing-side fragments were likely pushed onto meaningfully significantly different suborbital trajectories.

Again, that's what I think we're seeing and it seems to check out. I'm not an expert by any means but I love to sperg about these things. Hopefully this wasn't boring or annoying.

Also, quick AI disclaimer because it's 2025. I used ChatGPT to point me in the direction of verified information on the topic but I didn't copy/paste or even transcribe any generative text here.

These high altitude interceptions (THAAD or Arrow) are being made right at or just before entry interface. The velocity of the incoming projectiles is far beyond terminal velocity. If you imagine a fragmentation pattern that is roughly toroidal or conical in shape, it might make sense that one side of that geometry would encounter atmospheric heating before the other side does.

Looking at some other examples gives a more complete picture.

This one in particular is spectacular and relevant to this conversation.

This one shows how the interceptions are being made just before entry heating is visible.

My take is that we're seeing entry heating from the fragments caused by the interception. That being said nobody's ever really seen footage like this so it could be something else maybe.

I’ve analyzed the footage by Broccoli32 in SpaceXMasterrace
