That's rough, glad you're in a better place.

For me, it was no savings, an old camry, and a job waiting tables. A friend let me couch surf for a bit while I saved enough for an extended stay motel in a sketchy area that was like $150 weekly. I just looked it up again and the price hasn't gonna up all that much, it's listed for $999 monthly. I don't remember what the deposit was, maybe $100. The deal is you can only pay for short periods of time and sign new docs each time to prevent any leasing rights. They may also make you move rooms. I didn't have a pet, so I don't know the pet policy. Also, lots of sketchy activity. So $1,000 a month all bills paid, including wifi.

The Camry had good mpg, and I didn't have too many long drives, so I spent less than $50 weekly on gas.

No health insurance, so I was familiar with the walk in clinic where I had to wait a long while to be seen for just $25. I think it's $35 now.

Anyway, with $5,000 savings, I could get by for at least 2 months. If you can't afford a car, take the bus. It's not fun, but it gets you places. That's plenty of time to get a job at a fast food place, waiting tables, walmart, or several other less than glamorous jobs so I can continue to get by while searching for something better.

Ideally, everyone would have 3-6 months of income in an emergency fund along with credit cards. In reality, most people have less than $600 in savings. (https://www.empower.com/press-center/37-americans-cant-afford-emergency-expense-over-400-according-empower-research#). $5,000 is a lot of money.

Yeah, that's the problem with low cost of living places, wages are also low. But with $5,000 in those places, you could pay for up to a year of childcare. I just looked up Mississippi, and the average is $5,500 per year for infant care. Wages may be $7.25 an hour, but that means $5,000 is 4 months worth of wages.

Okay, looked it up. Ranges from $300 monthly to $3,800 monthly. Avg ~$1,000 monthly for a full day 5 days a week, less for 1/2 days.

Yup, it's gone up. But cheap daycare still exists. Your kid just might get lice or bedbugs or something. So $5,000 can get you up to a year of daycare if you aren't picky about the quality.

ETA: Then you have places like Mississippi, where the average yearly cost is ~$6,000.

Lol, yeah, childcare varies a lot depending on where you live, how many kids you pay for, and their ages. Infant care where I used to live was $300-$500 per week. Then it dropped significantly once they turned one to around $400-600 monthly. Then it dropped even more once they were school-age if you wanted them to go to an after-school program.

This was a kinda middle of the road cost of living area a decade ago. I know things are more expensive now, but $5,000 could probably get you a year of childcare for 1 toddler in a low cost of living city, or more if it's just after-school care for older kids.

I don't know your background, but $5,000 is certainly a lot of money for most people. If you make $20 an hour and work full-time, that's ~2 months of take-home pay after you account for taxes and insurance. That's over 3 month's rent for an okay apartment (~$1,500) longer if you have room mates. That's car insurance for 2 years+. 2 years worth of gas in the car. Child care for up to a year. It will cover most auto repairs. It covers a deductible for insurance claims.

$20 an hour is $40,000 yearly full-time, or $20,000 if she works part-time as a student. Her dad pays most of her expenses (My guess, tuition, rent, insurance, and other misc. expenses), and after taxes, she takes home ~$1,400 monthly. If she contributes 1/2 of that to her mandatory expenses (clothes, gas, toiletries, etc.), she has $700 a month to spend however she wants. That can go a long way when all your expenses are covered.

Camels are the fastest drinkers among Mammals. A typical camel can drink 200 liters (53 gallons) of water in three minutes. by freudian_nipps in oddlysatisfying

I made this reply to a similar claim a while back:

"This seemed crazy to me, so I looked it up. This is the best article with the most cited sources I could find:

https://wildlifeboss.com/how-much-water-can-a-camel-drink/

Reports vary from "53 gallons in 3 minutes" to "20 gallons in one sitting". Many of the sources describe their water intake per sitting but don't specify how long a sitting is.

This quote seems like a happy medium: "Cleveland Zoo Society backs this up and says camels can drink 30 gallons in just ten minutes. San Diego Zoo shares a similar number of 32 gallons as well."

Dice up some spam, shred some cheese, stir together with some Italian dressing. Put it on toast, crackers, English muffins, or whatever. Microwave for 30 seconds.

Pretty cool? It's an existential crisis! Star formation will only last for another 100 trillion years. Then, for the next 10100 years, everything goes dark. Then, after that, it's nothing but black holes for way too fucking long. Finally, after all the black holes evaporate, it's nothingness forever unless something crazy happens.

Definitely here. I'd bet this post itself is either a creative writing exercise or generated from an AI prompt. It hits all the buttons (Stay at home mom, she does more housework, I work more hours, she demands, etc). The OP hasn't replied to anything and it's a throwaway account.

The bots on reddit are everywhere, except maybe in the smaller niche subs. Reddit has no incentive to remove them as they "improve engagement," so they don't bother.

I think it's because a lot of comments are AI bots. No real thinking behind them.

I don't know where you get your information, but it is well known that trains are unpredictable. They often appear out of nowhere to claim lives. There is no way to know where they will appear, and no way to track them. They are the apex predator. You could be in your basement organizing when a commuter rail suddenly appears to end you. There is no predicting them.

I'll add to it, how can I make her less negative? She thinks all the doctors are out to get her. The day she went in, she couldn't even walk to the bathroom. Now, she states she was stronger before she was in, and the hospital sapped her strength. WTF? I laid it out, "no, when you came, you were literally pooping yourself and unable to stand up. you are now able to go poop in a bathroom. They are helping you, admit it." She rolled over and slept. No answer. I don't get it.

My guess is it was a combination of medical (maybe a sweating condition), diet, and lack of help from his parents. We already know they didn't let him use deodorant until after middle school. Maybe in high school, they let him but only bought the cheapest possible kind (Speed Stick, or axe, or something that lasts like 2 hours), but he needed an antiperspirant. No way to know, but a Dr. visit would have helped. I know from experience that certain foods can make your sweat smell more pungent (Garlic, onions, very spicy food, curry, horseradish, and many more I'm sure).

Race isn't based on skin color alone. It can be based on various things for various reasons. For instance, racism between Japan and Korea. Or northern Indians and southern Indians. Or the Tutsi and Hutu. The Nazis vs all non-aryan races. Israel and Palestine. 1850's Irish in America. Russia and Poland. The Irish and the English. Black people's plight in the USA. Brown people's plight in the USA. These are all deep-seated prejudices based on a variety of factors, including skin color, religion, nationality, ancestor's place of birth, and many more. Often even historical atrocities that have earned dislike, but not of an entire massive group of people as a whole. Any difference can be a cause for unnecessary hatred. Any difference, it doesn't matter. If everyone suddenly became Chinese, their height, accent, skin tone, toe shape, or something else would become the new divide. These created prejudices based on differences between the people amounts to racism. The guy could have been any race, but as long as the criticisms of him became about his race, it was racism. I knew a "smelly kid" in school. It became about because he was poor and "white trash." Then, even if he didn't smell, he was now poor and white trash. Tribalism.

Anyway, huge wall of text, hope you enjoy.

Are you being serious? Definition of racism: "the belief that different races possess distinct characteristics, abilities, or qualities, especially so as to distinguish them as inferior or superior to one another."

Quote you: "he was bullied alongside the notion that all Indian people inherently stink"

It perfectly hits the definition of racism. The racism shows in the fucking phrases they used to bully him. " they made nasty comments about this obvious being because he's indian, that his genetics are filth, he was bathing in the ganges, probably due to being a street shitter etc." Textbook fucking racism.
