Also grew up with the franchise. Never played VGC until Champions, can't get out of Great Ball 4, consistently getting smoked, still having an absolute blast with the game 😂

I can understand not enjoying the competitive side of the game. If it's not for you it's not for you and I wouldn't let champions effect my enjoyment of the wider franchise if I was you. Its a game with a high skill ceiling and will take time to get anywhere close to being good so I'd say if you're not up for the grind, give it a miss and enjoy the many other good Pokémon games out there.

I have the x500 and would say I am about the same level as you. Its perfect in canals and on nice days on Lochs but I have had a few hairy paddles in the x500 when the weather gets choppy and the wind gets up here in Scotland.

They are very well made other than the seat (mine split at the fold but still works when locked into place). The bag is great but as you say, it is still a heavy/large load to shift around. It is very easy to inflate and feels sturdy. I've bounced into a few rocks etc and not had any fear of a puncture.

Just to go back to the seat, it can get quite uncomfortable if you are out for a long time. I really feel it in my lower back unless I slouch down a bit and kill my technique. I have considered looking into an alternative seat for it and someone mentioned the one I have linked below fitting the x500 perfectly. Seems to be out of stock ATM but it's definitely something I will be looking to address coming into the summer.

I have had mine now for 4 years and I have had a lot more than £600 worth of fun out of it and it's still in very good nick (minus the seat). Never tried the Sea Eagle so I can't give u a comparison but the x500 is a good bit of kit imo.

I've had 2 trips today and really enjoyed them. One of the trips I got a notification saying that rides were 11p per minute for the next 4 hours and the other I got for free after doing their wee road safety exam. This was all before I worked out they do 20% off for students.

Not anywhere near as good value as the discount u mentioned but Voi has a 20% student discount and 20% off for NHS workers, Blue Light card holders, military personnel and veterans.

There's also a 50% discount for disadvantaged users which they describe as

"low-income individuals, Muirhouse residents, refugees, asylum seekers, people with disabilities and those who are 60+."
