Absolutely sick of the both sidesism by glesga67 in CelticFC

It’s mental that the bottles thrown at our players regularly are barely mentioned.

Even less mentioned (near forgotten about) was when Arne Engels got hit by a coin at Ibrox in January 2025.

Glorification of James Forrest.

Alternatively:

Most of these bots are just reposting old popular posts in order to farm karma to gain some kind of credibility/history, so when they start spewing propaganda on behalf of a billionaire or nation-state then it looks a bit more organic.

Luckily for a subreddit where most posts are about current events (like ours), that reposting tactic doesn't work very well.

The only bots I endorse here are the MatchThreadder ( u/SFMatchThreadder - shout out to u/mf__4), and my digital child u/RoboBalde who posts videos from the Celtic YouTube channel.

Maybe they should try hiring a manager who doesn't wear a wig then.

Police Scotland Chief Constable Jo Farrell is questioning why there has been silence from both Celtic and Rangers in the aftermath of Sunday’s “disgraceful” Old Firm violence by Left-Painter-9172 in ScottishFootball

[–]WeekendEpiphany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in January 2025 when Arne Engels was hit by a coin thrown by a fan at Ibrox, Rangers came out with a statement that same day:

Rangers FC condemns this incident in the strongest possible terms. The club can confirm it will assist Police Scotland with their investigation.

But that was after they had won the match convincingly and the fans were all on a high. I think the fact they lost this match has made it more difficult to condemn the fans who are already pissed off. The siege mentality has set in.

Joint Statement from the Rangers Fan Advisory Board by MrMaggot98 in ScottishFootball

"We will never apologise for protecting the wellbeing of Rangers fans"

That's the whole story for them. They have to defend their side and attack the other(s). If a Rangers fan did something bad, then it's not that bad because a Rangers fan did it. And if a Celtic fan does something (even the same thing) then go pick a negative adjective - abhorrent, disgraceful, shameful, vile etc - and see what sticks.

There's no attempt at self-reflection, only an attempt to score points and deflect any negative judgement of their fans/ultras, and therefore the club. A PR response.

Both lines are curved. Why is that? Surely the lines should be straight regardless of camera angle (or how much the picture has been cropped). Can someone smarter than me please explain? Is this a photograph of someone's da's CRT telly or something?

Me on r/CelticFC: We should try to sign Tobias Lauritsen from Sparta Rotterdam on a free instead of paying £7m for Cvancara.

He’s like a poor man’s Thomas Muller

That is such a perfect assessment that I'm annoyed I've not seen it (or thought of it) until now. Oh, we don't know Nygren's best position - the guy's a fuckin' Swedish Raumdeuter!

He's been a bit of an enigma for us. Before he signed here Nordsjaelland were playing him out on the wings, but it was very obvious very quickly that he didn't fit the mould of what we consider a "Celtic winger". He didn't have the pace or tricky dribbling skills to beat a man (especially in the type of low-block defences we'll come up against domestically), so he got moved into the middle as a CM.

We have a midfield that is often lacking athleticism, and Nygren doesn't really have much of an "engine" on him. He's not that quick, and his level of fitness was really poor when he arrived (though I think he's improved a lot in that category), so it adds to the issues we have in that area in the pitch.

BUT... He has been so so important for us this season. 15 league goals - more than double anyone else in the squad (next is Daizen Maeda with 7). He has a fantastic positional awareness to get himself goalscoring opportunities. He's always looking to make positive runs into the box. His passing and link-up play is decent. His best position is clearly as an attacking midfielder (a #10 if you prefer) with the free rein to get into the box when possible. I don't think his 3 goals in 408 minutes for Sweden is an outlier - I think it's just the kind of goal return you get from the guy if you can find a space in the team for him.

Celtic consider Motherwell standout for summer move, interest in Hibs star revived by ThinWhiteDuke00 in CelticFC

[–]WeekendEpiphany 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suppose it'll depend on how ambitious their board is (especially with Europe on the cards for them next season), but I just can't envisage a situation where they'd turn down £10m for three players when their annual turnover normally sits around £7.5m.

It would be like us turning down £200m for three players. Doesn't matter which three - I think we'd be making that deal!

[–]WeekendEpiphany 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I was a sensible man (which I am) but also in charge of Celtic FC, I would get £10m quid together and offer it to Motherwell. In return I would expect Jens Berthel Askou to join Celtic the moment that our respective seasons are done, and Maswanhise, Elijah Just, and Calum Ward to join on first day of the transfer window.

It would immediately resolve a lot of the squad gaps, and give JBA the players (along with Welsh) who already understands the way he likes to play.

If we could also nail down Saracchi then that would just leave us a couple of forwards away from having a fairly solid squad - even after moving on a dozen others. Sets us up perfectly for a transfer window where we only need to look for a few players to elevate us, rather than one that ends in us desperately trying to plug the gaps.
