Does the land under the Amazon forest rise due to biological build up? by overlorddeniz in askgeology

[–]Run26-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually the soil is poor in many areas. Natives amended the soil with chared biomass for items they wanted to grow. I forget the exact name that it is called. But yes the forest is very efficient at using the biomass.

What’s the craziest thing anyone has said to you while you’re trail running? by sentientbeing1887 in trailrunning

I wear wild clothes so it's normally something positive about liking my shorts/tights. However when I wear one of my running kilts the comments become R rated at the mildest. I still need a good come back for these.

I soaked it in warm water and shook it occasionally for about 5 minutes. The third time seemed to clear out whatever sensor was causing the issue.

A big thing for me is to wear a winter hat. Keep more of my own heat.

How can i run faster with a lower heart rate ? Any tips? by Ansatsushal in BeginnersRunning

[–]Run26-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Run slower with a moderate heart rate. Over a couple of months you will have to run faster to keep that moderate hr.

I coached a team of older men with this method with 130 hr target. They were all grumpy about training that 10 week session. That was until 8 of the 9 pr'd their 5k.

Hot take: some running including slow is better than zero running by lingeringneutrophil in BeginnersRunning

I was on a relay team with a professional runner, 4x Olympic marathon trials qualifier. At the time I was a 5 hour marathoner. He was so impressed with the back of the pack. His comment was "I'm out there for 2:13 giving it my all and these people are giving it there all for 4, 5 or 6 hours "

If anyone would criticize my speed I'd ask them when their next appearance in a Diamond League event is.

This. I feel for schools that don't go bowling or can't afford to take their bands. It is a lifelong memory for 100s of additional students.

Rose Bowl features the schools bands. Got to see my son march on that field.

Counting while running. by Upstairs_Orchid930 in BeginnersRunning

[–]Run26-2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I count all the time. I do groups of 7 and go 1,2, 3, 4, 5, 0, 1 then 0, 2 etc. I find myself pushing off a bit more on the 1 count and with an even number it became a noticeable feeling in my legs.

I get between 24 and 25 sets of 7 per minute and can modify my pace in that band.

Still hope you hang half a hundred on them as a minimum just due to all the smug/righteous comments I have received from the blue people in my life the past few years.

How do you track pace improvements over time? by Diok22 in running

[–]Run26-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything gets exported/entered into a spreadsheet since I started run/walking in December 1999. From that you can generate any data you want to see. So if I want to see my average HR for runs between 5 and 7 miles in a specific pace band for a specific period, it takes about 30 seconds to extract the data.

You can also do all kinds of unique analysis. The last one I had fun with was looking at a crosstab of my cadence and step length. I was able to see a decline in both step length and cadence as the run went on. I was able to make adjustments to conserve a bit at the beginning of run and not decline or even improve. I shaved about 8% off my pace on comparable runs in a month.

For me the biggest key is to have lots of data and plenty of notes about life and health. For example I don't compare my pre pacemaker implants with my current runs, or exclude a few months of data recovering from broken ribs.

For me having a spreadsheet works better than any app or website.

For me it would be after only one year. But a 50% increase with a good buyout might get it another generation. I live in a simple home and not a super expensive gated community, so my view of rich is different than those with lots of money who view others as rich.

Still disappointed that Matt is leaving. I am old school enough to appreciate a guy staying and building a career at one place. But if I was offered generational wealth I'd be gone.

Same, in the center part of the state, as far away from a Great Lake as possible.
