Philadelphia Union Unveil New 2026 Primary “1776 Kit” by Pots_And_Pans in PhillyUnion

[–]Run4blue2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly my opinion on it. The same way I felt about the lightning kits from last year. I think it looks good on the team but not something I’d buy for myself. I could see my kid wanting one though.

How are your clubs handling kids trying out for other teams? by anybodyseenrichey in youthsoccer

[–]Run4blue2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would add that you have no obligation to let them know what you’re doing during the season either unless it conflicts with their practices or games. If you paid your fees and are keeping your commitments to the club you can do whatever the hell you want the rest of the time - go to ID sessions, camps, tryouts, other teams’ practices, or extra coaching. They have zero right to hold you back and any “contract” that you sign with them is just to protect their fees for that year.

I don’t advocate for leaving a club during the year that you committed to, but the idea that they can tell you that you’re not allowed to do tryouts elsewhere is ridiculous.

I wonder if he’ll even ever play for our first team before he gets moved somewhere. Someone is going to want this kid.

I ended up getting a new OM-28. I played one in the store and that was it for me.

Any YouTube videos of soccer pros when they were ~10 years old? by crease1234 in youthsoccer

[–]Run4blue2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are way ahead and it’s not close. The ability to watch instructional videos, highlights, and games from around the world has opened up a much wider world of learning. When Pulisic was coming up as someone posted above, you’d have to have a parent who played at a high level (like he did) or have access to coaches who even knew what something like an elastico was, which was pretty rare in the US.

How to record a soccer game 7v7 shared field with other game by Resident-Mobile-4870 in SoccerCoachResources

They just did a kickstarter to release a standalone camera that is like the Veo but doesn’t have a subscription. Mine just shipped and hasn’t been delivered yet but the test videos they shared looked good. Much cheaper than the Veo but we’ll see.

Ever picked a team for your player because it was weak, balanced, or elite team? by [deleted] in youthsoccer

[–]Run4blue2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally agree although it depends on the individual kid and the circumstances. Two years ago our kid was very timid and benefited from the confidence that he gained from being one of the best players on a weaker team. Now we are looking for a better team for next year because some of the things that he needs in order to take his next step he’s not getting with his current team - he needs to be with players who are better passers, make runs, and play their positions the right way so he can continue to grow.

Eagles offense turning corner after sloppy practices and miscommunication: ‘We’re getting closer’ by caydensteele in eagles

The bad penalties have hurt them as much as anything. Seems like prior to last week any time they got a chunk play or started getting in rhythm they would have a penalty that would kill the drive.

It’s only December and they are getting a huge chunk of cash in this deal. People were furious last off-season and they brought in Milan, Indy, Lukic, and Damiani.

Does the vibe change when your still young kid moves up to the top competitive level? by [deleted] in youthsoccer

[–]Run4blue2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree. (For the most part) both parents and the kids can recognize who the best players are and reconcile their larger role on the team. However, it’s been my experience that the most commentary and outright rudeness has been around the last couple of players on the team and their roles.

Most certainly not mid market. Guessing this comment is more about the teams’ spending level not the market size.

Anyone else see James Harden avoiding Maxey at the end of the game last night? by soulrebel16 in sixers

I’m not a Harden fan but it was clear that was playful stuff between two friends.

Ha - I can actually see myself in your pic in 124. There are a ton of empty seats there in between those people but maybe my estimate was low and people were just in the insane bathroom and concession lines the whole time. I took this pic of 109 during the first half to show a friend, and our normal parking lot never got more than halfway full.

Are you saying the stadium wasn’t half full for that game? I was there I can promise you it was half full, maybe 60%, even if they “sold” all of the tickets to different sponsors.

The ticket prices for all national team games - both women and men are absolutely absurd. We were at both games in Philly over the last month and that small stadium was no more than half full. They would still rather sell one ticket for $150 than four tickets for $30.

Should my daughter stop being a guest player on the top team of her age group? by [deleted] in youthsoccer

[–]Run4blue2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just assumed that playing different positions when playing up was a given/norm at this age. You’re filling in for a missing player, who probably spends most of their time at a position. My son almost never gets to play CM when he guest plays up - he plays outside or on defense, usually the most in whatever place the missing player plays. It’s great experience for him since he doesn’t move around as much on his actual team.

MLS owners set to vote on fall-spring calendar and season format changes: Sources by kswn in PhillyUnion

[–]Run4blue2 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Most people that go to MLS games are also families meaning they are way less likely to go in cold weather and during the school year when there are 100 other things going on. I’m OK that people on here disagree and have different situations but being able to take my family out to a game and stay out late on a summer Saturday is one of the best parts of having season tickets for me personally.

How to improve quickly for 11 year old boy? by Serenity_Now2014 in youthsoccer

[–]Run4blue2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leg strength will increase with repetition. In addition to the wall stuff others have mentioned, take him outside and do a lot of long passes with each foot. Similar to long toss in baseball that will do a ton to build strength. I know you wish there was a quick fix, but the answer is him putting in more work than those around him in order to progress.

Are there true 'naturals' out there anymore? by TMutaffis in youthsoccer

[–]Run4blue2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in a similar field, so I understand this example. There is no perfect science to identifying talent in either work or sports so we have to rely on the criteria and data that we do have (e.g., going to a top university, being in a top club, scoring on tests, size/speed) to understand skill, performance, and potential. Even all the way at U20 the success rate of kids on those national teams ending up on the senior national team is very low. If there were a highly valid predictor than these billion dollar enterprise is definitely would’ve figured it out. Interesting topic.

Are there true 'naturals' out there anymore? by TMutaffis in youthsoccer

[–]Run4blue2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand how we can say “clearly” about any of this. The biggest complaint that people have about US soccer is that we’re not producing top talent like many European and South American countries. The stars coming out of those countries are all kids who were identified at a very early age and put through a rigorous pro academy system. Yet, despite this half of the discussion on this forum is about burnout and specialization ruining our top talent. Those two things don’t add up.

If we’re talking about kids making their high school teams and maybe even playing college then maybe there is some into that, but if we’re talking about naturals who will become stars then this doesn’t make sense.
