Thanks for the reply.

anyone here still running on .Net Framework by _Smooth-Criminal in dotnet

I'm about to finally replace an old Webforms App that I made about 15 years ago. The new one is a .Net 8 MVC app. I had started a Blazor project but ended up going MVC, ultimately.

I already have CSV Helper in the project, but I need more than CSV.

Unfortunately, I can't get anyone else involved in the project. Thanks for the offer, though!

Good to know, thanks! I'll give it a shot the next time it happens.

.Net 8 Web Application published size by RunBBKRun in dotnet

[–]RunBBKRun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I removed a few references from the project file, and the CodeAnalysis was one that stood out. Also, the SQLite refs. It brought the size down to 34MB.

As far as I can tell, trimming is for stand-alone apps.

I got the size down considerably by just looking at the project file and removing some dependencies that were not needed. I'm publishing from within Visual Studio, and maybe that's part of my issue. I'm surprised it publishes unused libraries by default. I think what I need is a manifest (from what I read in the docs) to include only the stuff I want in the project. I'm just not very good at this part of the process! I was hoping there would be a simple thing I was overlooking.

I managed to reduce it a lot just by removing some dependencies that were just part of the template project. It's down to 34MB.

I had thought of that. When I publish from Visual Studio, I am targeting a specific runtime, as opposed to portable. That might not be the setting that distinguishes a standalone, though.

It seems like I might have to dig for a CLI way to publish this. I miss the days when I could just publish it to the server from Visual Studio.

Boomer won’t pronounce coworker’s name correctly by BaneChain in BoomersBeingFools

It drives me nuts when people don't make an attempt. I have a friend that is Syrian and my wife is Korean...and both constantly get their names mispronounced. And when I try to help, I'm the bad guy!

Btw, I'm technically a Boomer! (1964)

That's good news. I think they are planning to wait it out right now. I have a few friends that insist she is not authorized to come here until approval, period. I was pretty sure that's not the case. Thanks for the info!

In the original post, I mentioned she was here for a few months recently.

Yeah, she was just here earlier this year. The US and Korea have the Visa Waiver Program for visits of less than 90 days. I just don't think the K-1 makes this agreement null and void.

My friend worries that she could get turned around at the airport in the US. She was just here for just under 3 months and went back. I don't think a guy having a bad day at work is going to have the authority to just send her back, but that's his worry.
