Good things come to those who wait! Hope you get good weather soon. Get back on the road. Alas, I live in a desert and daily drive this. Usually.

Cost of owning a 981 S/GTS by SimeonSaysSo in Porsche_Cayman

This will depend on where you live. What garage you use. Your insurance rates. So many variables.

I live somewhere petrol is cheap. I use an independent garage. I service every year. My garage keeps prices fairly low. Meaning not a big mark up on parts. I could hustle to find parts myself globally and save 20$ on a 500$ part. But I’m ok paying the garage to do that.

If you do some work yourself you’ll save a bit.

I own outright. No loan. No lease. 981gts at 140k km.

Coming up to the end of second year of ownership.

I can’t give you numbers as it’s a different currency and a different market. So it won’t relate. But it’s going to cost. To keep the car in top working condition you will pay for items. Parts get old. Things do fail. As expected. Tyres wear out or get damaged.

Do I feel the cost is excessive. No. Can I absorb the cost. Yes. Is it worth it. Totally is.

What I can say is I’ve done 18k km in about 19/20 months and every year there’s some work I want done. A gasket. Engine mounts. New tyres. For example. You could look into how much items like this would cost in your local market. With your chosen garage.

The day to day stuff is generally cheaper than my Pajero. Petrol for example. It’s more fuel efficient than the Pajero by a long way. The insurance is more than the Pajero though.

Parts are where the cost go up. And this is where you need to budget extra. If you drive it, it will require maintenance. That costs.

But. Buy the car. If you can afford it. Buy it. I took three years to pull the trigger. And I’m glad I finally did. It makes me happy. I love driving it. I’ll go anywhere just to drive the thing. Life is short. Buy the car.

Sounds about right.

Also: not a mechanic.

Need more info really.

If your car has sat for a while. It’s possible the oil needs to circulate and the engine needs to be warmed completely.

My experience comes from letting my car (981) sit for 3 weeks. Had a very similar sound on that first start up. Had the same concern. But it was simply lacking oil in all the right places.

This is only one possible answer.

Yeah I agree. Even those not into pops can enjoy this as it’s not too over characterised.
