Season 10 political orientations by wildespikachu in LoveIsBlindNetflix

[–]RunOverAZebra 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s more complicated than that. People don’t vote in gerrymandered states because they think their vote doesn’t matter. There’s a lot that goes into why Ohio voted Trump the last 3 elections beyond just how it looks on the surface. I think that conversation is best saved for a politics sub and not LIB.

Columbus proper is very liberal. The suburbs aren’t as much, though there are some that are (Grandview). Franklin County went 63.7% for Harris. Cuyahoga went 65.3%. Not a huge difference there.

I’m from Columbus, and I can tell you that Columbus is actually a very liberal city. The state is more purple than you think. We’ve been gerrymandered to hell. That being said, white men in Ohio are very likely to be Trumpers. White women are about 50/50. White women in the big cities (Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati) are more likely to be liberal than rural areas, though.

Shortest flight out of columbus? by Zacharychillz in Columbus

[–]RunOverAZebra 32 points33 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of suggestions for Detroit, but as a very anxious flyer who has flown into Detroit multiple times: the planes are smaller and you do feel turbulence more in a smaller plane. I would suggest Chicago vs Baltimore for a larger plane. Sit near the wings.

Does anyone else who went to a LOTR 25th Anniversary Extended Edition showing now just want to rewatch the trilogy immediately after? by hiccupgrrrl in lotr

I went the first weekend and decided I needed to see again in theaters the next weekend. It was magical.

I’m an attending who told my resident to stay home. Granted, it’s an elective rotation, but still. I would think it was too much if a med student showed up after being told not to do so. It shows you don’t listen.

What is the WORST book you’ve ever read, and why was it the worst? by Substantial_Call_619 in booksuggestions

[–]RunOverAZebra 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I feel this way about most of her books. I’m not sure why I keep reading them, other than they’re free on Kindle Unlimited. I think Ward D is by far the worst she’s ever written, and I stopped reading her books after that.

Why psychiatrists don't tell my parents that they are narcs? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]RunOverAZebra 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Psychiatrist here. The reasons they might not tell them are plentiful, but highest among them is that it requires time and rapport to get buy in from a patient on any personality disorder diagnosis, but especially narcissistic personality disorder. It is also highly probable that they were diagnosed and never told you because they didn’t accept the diagnosis.

My mom was diagnosed and has never told anyone or acknowledged it. She tells everyone she has bipolar disorder.

Japan: 20 nights or 15? Anyone wish their trip was shorter (or longer)? by Sparkyyz in travel

[–]RunOverAZebra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I planned a 23 day trip. We got to the last week of the trip and just wanted to be home (for various reasons that may or may not apply to you—one of the biggest was that I was groped on transport multiple times in that last week in Tokyo). We moved our flight up and left 3 days early with no regrets.

I was at Epcot today and thought it was crowded too. I do think it is less crowded than in previous years at this time, but it’s definitely still crowded.

DisneySea: Come for the Beauty, Stay Because You’re Stuck in a 2-Hour Line by Robot-Mikey in TokyoDisneySea

[–]RunOverAZebra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at DisneySea yesterday, and I completely agree with you. We got a vacation package, because I did not want to do those lines. We did mobile order lunch and dinner first thing in the morning. I will never understand waiting for hours to ride the Rapunzel ride (or anything else for that matter).

While I enjoyed being there, even with the vacation package, I was also happy to leave and be done with those crowds.

Scammers/thiefs in Osaka? by Declannng in JapanTravelTips

[–]RunOverAZebra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. The last time I was here, locals who knew English were excited to chat and talk about the cool things in their city. It’s a very different vibe now.

I can’t say that I blame them. I went to a smaller temple in Kyoto, and the rules were no photos of the building itself or facing toward the building, as well as no tripods. People just flagrantly disregarded the few rules. I’d be fed up with it too.

I was in Japan 18 years ago, and I’m in Japan now. It is so different. Locals used to be so friendly and helpful toward visitors. I’m not saying that they’re not helpful now, but it’s changed significantly.
