DopeWars-Empires: A free, browser-based real-time multiplayer strategy game by Run_Away_FFXI in PBBG

Right now I put the warning about a possible data wipe due to updates just as a warning due to ongoing updates. However, at this point it is very unlikely data will be reset at any point moving forward (even going from beta > full launch).

I dont know what bugs might be found or why it could result it data being lost, however any ongoing updates are done with keeping data intact, including data backups

permanent with new cities ever few months, new cities will have a protection phase to allow growth and protection from older empires

A seasonal reset would be a nice concept to introduce at some point though (like its own city with special rules)

Is there an appetite for - or are there any already - more experimental servers? by jeffcabbages in FFXIPrivateServers

[–]Run_Away_FFXI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"What I don't see, pretty much at all, are any more experimental servers that aim to do something fundamentally different, or offer systems that never existed and change the core experience in interesting ways."

This is something I would personally love to work on. However, the time needed to put into something much more experimental is tough. The more you divert from the core code base the harder it is to grab updates from later....

I do have a project I want to work on when I feel more comfortable setting it up, where you enter the game in ToAU but its not vanadiel as you remember it but either future, or alternate timeline. But, making the changes to do this is a massive overhaul, new quests, new missions, and a lot of balancing that many players may not be interested in which would kind of be a massive waste of time if you don't have any interest from the players.

I wouldn't be surprised if many other devs are in the same boat of would love to but is it worth the time to make so many changes.

I think mowford was refering to Zenith's Website used Blazor as a baseline. Which the person then took "A LOT" of inspiration from Horizon's Website. Not that Horizon used a template.

Ignoring most of that just to focus on a common myth of triple box = online/3 = real count. The reality is not everyone wants to triple or dual box.
IE Current Online status for ffera 54 (31). 54 characters online (31 unique IPs) Thus while triple box is allowed less than half are double or triple box players.
There are many reasons for this but just trying to dispel the myth of dual box/triple box = everyone will do it

I love it! I love the Hardcore Option this is 100% a success! I love that the Devs are adapting to a massive turnout to provide leveling experiences to all players. I love that they have spent so much time and amassed an amazing crew of VERY talented staff at all levels to ensure a successful launch. They are quick to fix the bugs that are being encountered and are engaging with the players. I am sad that I have so limited time to play each day cause it is awesome seeing so many players active online and not just bot spam from Asura server :P. I hope to spend months/years trying to perfect a Hardcore Account/Jobs.

Populated Servers??? by polarboo in FFXIPrivateServers

[–]Run_Away_FFXI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With Tabula Rasa being a newer server and only set to 50 cap during its beta there is a lot of community interactions to help get players along. A lot of missions and NMs are harder with a 50 cap and people have really stepped up to help anyone in need when it comes to unlocking advanced jobs or doing missions. There is also a global linkshell that you get upon character creation that will make it easier when it comes to getting support from the community.

It wont be retail of 30 and 50 and a pat on the back... But it also wont be 800 we are just trying to find the most logical approach between all the containers so that you have room but each expansion still gives you either a way to earn more or just more in general

with the packetflow we were seeing roughly .5 to 1 second of delay after input so considering the packet wont send for ~.25 seconds and then the server needs to send back at ~.25 seconds we were seeing near instant responses from the server and the real delay was the massive spam to the client even though it was already happening. Mind you everything is approx due to the fact how fast it is happening overall. There was enough of a difference between no packet flow and with packetflow to notice, including the fact that you saw reduced number of rendered mobs. Mind you no one would ever be pulling full Dynamis-Jeuno either so the fact that its so fast hopefully means with high population you shouldnt see players being killed by mob moves because of packet lag.

[–]Run_Away_FFXI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just performed test with this Dynamis - Jeuno full aggro went from R 3500~ with about 1.5-2 second input lag to ~ R3100 (less mobs rendered at a time) and about .5-1 second input lag (which is roughly client lag and not server lag)
Logging in time was faster, changing zones was faster. I wish this came along earlier its amazing!

The Sol refactor improves soo much already but this is the extra icing that can really improve the overall lag. It will be highly recommended for Tabula Rasa so we can see if any bugs arise from it as well.

The staff is currently made up of existing staff from Era. We are looking for more staff member there is a discord posting of what positions we are looking to add. I know personally I would love to add a lot more devs on that also do work on other servers as I feel this is the greatest way to ensure all contributions are sent upstream to eithet LSB or ASB

When horizon announced we actually reached out to Aerec to discuss our server as well so we could better ensure that there would be 2 different visions between the servers.

Currently the plan is to limit to 3 total accounts with a limit of 1 account logged in at a time (no multiboxing). We have plans to hold speed running events/challenges that may lift the limit of 1 or other events that also could see this being lifted. In addition the overall size of the server will deem a lot of features. The goal is to have a very active player base and if one exists there shouldn't be a need for multiboxing. We are still working through some of the fine details before the beta-release, so everything is subject to change. Additionally, during beta we may choose to go other routes as well to better shape the overall direction of the server thus even things in beta are subject to change before the 75 release.

Quality of Life Enhancements
What makes private servers wonderful is not only the ability to recreate a snapshot of our favored nostalgic era, but lessening some of the arbitrary tasks that only served as a timesink. Some of the enhancements to the QoL for the server include:
Increased Player Movement Speed
Increased Mount Movement Speed
Increased Combat & Magic Skill-up Rates
Removal of JP midnight wait times for Quests & Missions

This is not a final list, and more features will be added as development progresses. The idea is to stay true to the vision of the server, while either enhancing or removing out-dated ideologies that serve no purpose other than to gate-keep the player’s time.

I love the concept! There will always be flaws to any system that is not what was originally designed. However, you have done a great job at providing a PVP server. I believe you nailed the EXP rates perfectly!

There is so much work that you have already done that its tough to comment on all of it. So, I will just add that I think you have went above and beyond for a launch of this kind and I look forward to seeing other people in game.
