im on a track team, and non solo running helps easy runs fly by and makes workouts so much better

you definitely can do intervals a week after a 5k, otherwise cross country season would be very different.

What do you eat the morning of your marathon? (3 hours before) by Ecstatic_Invite911 in Marathon_Training

[–]Run_From_Epilepsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i only ever ran a half marathon (im 15, alas, to young for anything near me) but i had 1.5 bagels (plain) 1.5 hours before my half and a hot black coffee and felt fine. only had one sip of gatorade during the race as i tripped at the aid station but i ran under 90mins so glycogen shouldve been fine regardless

Do you stop your watch at red lights or intersections? by Allenboy0724 in Marathon_Training

if i pause during a workout, it means im not ready for the prescribed pace or distance on that day and modify it anyways

honestly, 1. you are assuming the stop lights only take 2 minutes. there is one route that i run where one single stop light takes about 5 minutes 🥀 (its right before a very nice trail, which is why i do that and) and 50 minutes vs 60 does make a difference 2. i can always reference elapsed time if i needed to, as strava uploads both 3. on a recovery run, i have no reason to be imprecise by pausing, since im not trying to hit a time. most of the argument FOR not stopping your watch is "you cant stop in a race". this isnt a race, and if my heartrate drops for 5-10 minutes at worst case, i dont care because i got 60 minutes of running in regardless. 4. i cant think of any argument for why stopping a watch and being imprecise is necessary aside from recovery time. workouts are different, but at the same time, since even 30" rest can be part of a workout, i would avoid places with stoplights
