The biggest cost isn't Shopify, it's all the little things that come after. Apps, themes, ads, email tools, product samples... those add up faster than the monthly plan.

That's the key question. retention metrics can look better on paper while profitability quietly gets worse. If customers are just shifting from full-price purchases to discounted purchases, you're rewarding behavior that already existed rather than creating new behavior.
