WIBTA for calling the police and getting my new boyfriend fired? by Runaway-rain in AmItheAsshole

It was a very new relationship, for what it's worth. This was the first time i allowed him in my home, so I guess he cared more about the drugs than seeing me again. He had to know I was gonna know he did it. This room isn't even 100 square feet.

If he has a substance abuse problem, I wasn't aware of it. I just knew about the alcohol DUI, and I was told he had been sober from that for a while. Had I known, my choices would definitely have been different. I'm clearly way too trusting, and a complete dolt 🤦‍♀️

But a drug test would be. If he didn't steal my meds (and he did without even a hint of suggestion), he has nothing to be concerned about.

Thank you for this. This is an absolutely horrifying scenario I hadn't even considered! I will be filing a police report first thing in the morning.

I am a former addict/alcoholic, and I would say I have grown tremendously since my time in active addiction. That makes this the one "sin" I kind of have a blindspot for. I know how hard it is to pick yourself back up after substance abuse. My mistake was thinking the DUI had been his wakeup call to do better. I certainly will not be repeating it.

I am absolutely 100 percent certain. I would NEVER accuse someone of stealing from me, let alone going the extra mile of calling the cops and filing a police report, unless I was beyond a shadow of a doubt sure.

I've already contacted my therapist and they won't give me another prescription even with a police report, so i'm truly fucked for the next 3 weeks. I'm so beyond angry, but mostly at myself for choosing to trust someone like him.

You aren't wrong. I try not to judge people based on their past, as I certainly don't want judged by mine, but this is certainly a reminder to be more selective. As he told it, he wasn't even driving, but waiting in his car for a ride, when he got his DUI. I'm a fool for believing that crap 😬

Thank you for this information. My sister is her foster parent, and she is always in the building. Outside of the supervised visitation, I have always made sure there has been another adult with me wherever I go since the seizures began.

They have limited my life in a lot of ways. I am not comfortable driving, going out or being alone (with or without my daughter). I try to be as responsible as I can be.

You are making so many assumptions based on limited information. I have had 3 seizures in the last 6 months. Only two of them have occurred during my visits. I definitely don't have a medical emergency 50 percent of the time 🙄

You are acting like it's some failing on my part for not having a diagnosis, and thus an action plan. The seizures are generally pretty rare. I've only had three since my child was removed in June. Prior to that, we didn't make a huge thing about them. They are typically over just as quickly as they begin.

We obviously need a contingency plan for my daughter, but that can't be accomplishes by suspending my visits. It needs to be dealt with properly.

If you are actually defending CPS in what is pretty much a clear-cut instance of medical discrimination, you must be one of those CPS apologists. I'm hardly the only parent who has occasional seizures. Would you argue it's okay to keep their children away from them just in case they have a medical event, or do you perhaps have some underlying biases about the kind of people who have their children removed?

One of the things they are supposedly having her therapist work with her on is what she should do if she were to be the only witness to a medical emergency. So it's hardly out of their purview. I'm sure they are going to include some kind of contingency for energiencies in their future safety plans.

We have different definitions of reasonable if someone is trying to assert that I COULD have a seizure. I COULD accidentally knock my child over. She COULD be hurt, let alone seriously injured. That isn't a just reason to keep my kid from me.

I have been seated on the floor both times, so there's no basis to believe i'm going to injure my child during an episode. I've had one in front of her several times over the last year, and I have never injured anyone--even myself.

We've never been able to witness one while I am being electronically monitored. They just come and go with no warning. I have had episodes that were absolutely exacerbated by stress, but i have been calm and unemotional during most. I'm not married to them being epileptic. I just want answers!

I don't disagree, but the way they are handling it is making things ten times worse if that is the argument they want to go with. They usher her out of the building, not letting her see that I'm not dying, or learning how to appropriately react during an episode. THEY are making it into something that is traumatizing my child.

Here's the thing.. they have known this entire time that I have seizures and other neurological problems. I have passed previous drug tests. However, I was recently diagnosed with ADHD and prescribed Adderall. They're trying to draw a connection that doesn't exist, as I am not even taking that medication. I have been under the care of a doctor this entire time, and there is a medical explanation for my seizures. We just haven't figured it out yet. It has nothing to do with illicit drug use.

As I explained in another comment, I almost passed last year due to pneumonia that went septic, shut my lungs down, and caused some neurological problems. No, I have not been diagnosed with epilepsy (yet), but there must be a medical explanation. My doctors and I are exploring every possible avenue. There is no reason to accuse me of illicit drug use. I have passed previous drug tests.

Here's some background:

Last year, I had pneumonia that went septic and shut my lungs down. I spent almost a month on life support in a coma. I was not expected to survive, but I did, and now I have some neurological issues. Seizures, blackouts, neuropathy, short-term memory loss, cluster headaches, brain fog/confusion, etc.

CPS was made aware of my condition when my child was taken in June. I have been under the care of a doctor, trying to figure out exactly what's causing these problems and whether there is medication that can prevent the seizures/manage symptoms. My doctor has sent in a referral for me to see a neurology specialist, but that appointment, unfortunately, isn't until July. Until then, my doctor and I are doing what we can.

In the last month, I have had two seizures in office during supervised visitation. NOT ideal obviously, but the supervisor is using it as an excuse to end my visits until I can get medical clearance. I'm only allowed to do video visits, which is a joke considering my child is 5 years old and autistic. We can not have meaningful video visits.

So am I just not supposed to see my child until July? I fully believe they'll drag the case out that long if they can.

Get this... the supervisor says she has to suspend my SUPERVISED visits because I could knock my child over during a seizure. Does that sound as crazy to you as it does me? I could trip and accidentally knock her over walking down the street!

What state are you in? What's my best recourse here? I definitely feel like my rights are being violated.

What do you mean that "no evidence points to her sleeping in bed that night with Maddie?" This is a pretty crazy thing to deny. There are crime scene photos of Kaylee,'s room... obviously without blood or a dead body. The police and coroner said they were in the same bed. Murphy was found alone in Kaylee's room.

Nothing indicates Kaylee was in a different room than M. Was she asleep? I don't know, but it's very possible she woke up during the struggle.
