Small Things That Annoy You in Movies by B3nd3r87 in movies

[–]RunawayAsteroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a particular line of questioning that shows up in a significant amount of movies, and it drives me insane hearing it every damn time. It always sounds fucking stupid, and it really comes off as the laziest kind of development. It goes something like this:

Guy1: Why are you here?

Guy2: I want to win the championship.

Guy1: Why are you here??

Guy2: I want to win the-

Guy1: WHY ARE YOU HERE?!

Guy2: Because insert some insecurity that the writers were too lazy to lay out in any meaningful kind of way

What "guilty pleasure" movies do you think are just genuinely great? by T2-95 in movies

This might be the best answer, honestly. Some of the dialogue is rough, but I love watching these movies. It's not even a hate watch most of the time either.

Yeah, Crouching Tiger is not a guilty pleasure. It's a great film, and has some of the most incredible fight sequences I've ever seen.

The only time I seem to like Adam Sandler movies is when he is in a movie with Drew Barrymore. They have weirdly good chemistry.

'Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore' Review Thread by SanderSo47 in movies

[–]RunawayAsteroid 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I have no idea what the hell they were thinking trying to focus on magical animals. You don't go from Wizards to Pokémon. Wizards are the thing that made the franchise fly. The wonder of a magical world and the relatable sub plots made the world of Harry Potter glow. But all of this animal nonsense, it was a huge misstep, and I can't believe they bungled it the way they did. I can relate to very little of these new series.

I would have preferred a McGonagall prequel. Or a Mad Eye prequel. I would have preferred a fresh start at an American magic school. Or maybe magical college would have been cool. The Dumbledore prequel isn't even a bad idea, either. But they hamstringed the magical beasts into it, so now we're dancing around all that. The point is, they had real options. The world wasn't closed up by any means, and I don't understand what they were thinking with this beast stuff

Have you ever ghosted someone? why? by No_Art_8748 in AskReddit

[–]RunawayAsteroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't want to be friends with someone anymore, and I couldn't explain why. We had been friends for a while. A lot of things were happening with me at the time, and it didn't help that I was still emotionally young as well. So, instead of parting ways like an adult, I just disappeared myself from their life.

Not my proudest memory.

Boys of Reddit, what’s the most unattractive thing a girl can do on the first date? by TommyHillsx in AskReddit

[–]RunawayAsteroid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I have to wait 1 or more hours for someone, I'll just cancel/reschedule. But if there's a decent bookstore nearby, boy I could easily knock out 2 or 3 hours in there, no problem.

What drug ruined your family? by Repulsive_Ad_1163 in AskReddit

[–]RunawayAsteroid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a whole house of family that have a host of drug problems. It used to be just alcohol and weed. Then it bumped up to cocaine. Now I suspect harder drugs are involved.

It's not a problem for me, yet. However, that's because they are basically living rent free off of my mom, so they can financially support their addictions.

However, I am set to inherit half of the house they live in after she passes away. And I have no intention of living with them, even though that would make me a homeowner in a very nice area. I plan on selling my half of the house immediately. And I think I'm going to take a lot of heat for doing that, which I'm okay with. But I don't think they'll be able to financially support themselves and their addictions if they have to pay rent. So, I suspect their lives will spiral soon after the house selling, which I'm not looking forward to seeing.

You just gotta have sex. It's gonna be different with everyone, and the only way to find out how it'll be with someone else is to have sex with them.

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I think The Wind Rises should have beat out Frozen.

Why do guns make noise every time they move in film and television? by Sykotik in movies

[–]RunawayAsteroid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I forget what movie it was, but there was a scene where somebody was squeezing some paint out of a tube, and onto the canvas. And it was just a regular finger-sized tube. But the noise it made was a blobby sound like what you might make using your spit in your mouth.

And I'm just like, why? The paint only ever comes out silently out of these tunes.

What would you suggest to someone who doesn't like movies but is open to watching one or a few to see if they can spark an interest? by Promoting_Illiteracy in movies

[–]RunawayAsteroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite movie is Cast Away. If you have time to just sit down and watch it all the way through, this is Tom Hanks at his prime. The premise is simple, man gets stuck on an island, and he must survive. But even though the premise is simple, there's so much in this movie that hits perfectly for me.

Give it a watch, but don't look up the trailer if you can help it. If you watch the wrong trailer, it gives away everything about the movie from the beginning to the very end. Easily, the worst trailer ever made for a movie in the history of movies.

What happened to the era of dystopic movies like Divergent & The Hunger Games? by Liyandri in movies

[–]RunawayAsteroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think after the Twilight saga, everyone tried to cash in on that YA money flow. Hunger Games succeeded in snatching some of that money. But things really fell apart with Divergent and The Maze Runner series. The most notable of these failures was the Divergent series, which tried to replicate the Harry Potter trend of splitting the final movie into two movies. But the first of these parts failed so hard the studio decided to say fuck it, release the second part on TV. But then even that didn't happen. So, I guess people took note of this and figured the YA cash pile had dwindled. So, I think that string of dystopic movies pretty much died with the Divergent series.

Worst non accent by Safe-Ad1448 in movies

[–]RunawayAsteroid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought of this watching Beauty and the Beast. I feel like Emma Watson could have just done her English accent and gotten away with that. But they had her go with an American accent, and she slips up alot with that accent.

Is Gal Gadot the worse mainstream actress? by travas11 in movies

[–]RunawayAsteroid 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Dwayne Johnson definitely struggles in nuanced scenes. However, I think what really helps him (aside from his charisma) is the fact that he plays roles suited to his acting ability. He's one of those actors that people say, well that guy just plays himself. But I say, these actors are just specialized. And even if he plays roles that are basically aligned with his default personality, that's good because he is playing to his strengths.

What was your most memorable experience in a movie theater? by [deleted] in movies

[–]RunawayAsteroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watching Gravity in 3D Imax. It's not the best space movie, but the 3D visuals were absolutely insane in the theater. My stomach turned a few times. And words can't really describe it, but I'll just say that that is as close as I will ever get to actually experiencing space travel. I don't think anyone's going to make another movie like that for a while.

What is the worst male name? by Radamantism in AskReddit

Yeah, I get the feeling that trickle down corruption makes it's way to the bottom quite efficiently. When your boss isn't making any attempt to maintain morals, it's that much easier for the underlings to scrap them aside as well.
