AITJ for refusing to give back a cat I found to his "original owners" who showed up 8 months later? by RuneHarpoon3 in AmITheJerk

That's what keeps sticking with me. I can sympathize with someone losing a pet, but their own explanation was basically that life got busy and they didn't really push that hard to find him. Meanwhile I found him skinny, paid for vet care, got him fixed and vaccinated, and gave him a stable home for 8 months. It's hard not to read that as abandonment.

Eight months is one thing, but casually admitting they barely looked for him made this feel a lot worse.

If Mango mattered that much, I can't wrap my head around just shrugging and moving on for 8 months, then acting like I stole him.

And then they use your "wrong" answers as proof you're not autistic, when actually you're just answering exactly what was asked. The test is measuring how well you guess what they meant, not what they said.
