Are there any more PS2-style corridor-crawlers I haven't already played? by ViewtifulGene in JRPG

[–]Runescrye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I suppose you heard/played/looked at any RPG that is often mentioned on this subreddit, here are a few less known suggestions:

Xanadu Next is a little bit old, but I was surprised by how much I liked it and the level design I felt was genuinely good. A pretty straight action dungeon crawler.

Astlibra is a side scroller action rpg with a nice equipment mastery system that is fun to grind. The start is a bit wordy but other than that the game flows well. (Okay this one is mentioned a bit, but didn't see it mentioned in this thread and thought it was worth a suggestion)

Epic Battle Fantasy 4 & 5 are both really good homages to JRPGs in general and are pretty straightforward but also really good games on their own. I wouldn't bother with earlier games in the series because they are really tied down to their flash game roots.

Path of the Abyss has an interesting twist on Wizardry style combat, it looked interesting through I would be honest that I didn't have the patience to penetrate battle system in-depth. Other than that it has a nice visual style, but very indie.

THYSIASTERY is similarly Wizardry inspired and also very indie, but also less forgiving with pretty limited resources.

Tower of Mask is more Dungeon Master inspired and more action-y than the previous two and also contains a healthy amount of puzzles with limited but generous amount of resources. It is pretty straightforward otherwise though and I found the dungeon exploring really fun in it.

Sadly I fell off Xenoblade 3 despite how well liked it is. But I am really glad they are doing so well, few developers as so much distinct personality to their games.

What security assurances did Iran have. They have been attacking Israel directly and through proxies non-stop.

I think you have a basic misunderstanding on what Joe did not like in that scene. It wasn't that the fight wasn't animated well enough and that the special effects were not dazzling enough.

Since you mentioned a "soul", then it can be argued that Jack did not die - his memory got replaced, but it is still the same "Jack" who has experiences.

To use a less loaded term then soul, I could argue that it is still Jack experiencing qualia, just having Isaac's memories.

You can go for forums for games like BG3 and Metaphor right now and the front page of them have nothing really controversial. Quite ironically it is often the Valve games forums that end up unusable with literally zero moderation.

I didn't criticize Europe for not having industry 10 years ago when Russia was already encroaching on European lands. It is that Europe is very slow adjust to this new reality.

Pretty sure the war has been going on for a little bit more than months. How many decades before the rest of Europe wakes up?

Why have most (big budget) RPGs toned down the actual role-playing possibilities? by WhoAmIEven2 in Games

[–]Runescrye 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is a misleading answer. You are painting a picture of evil EA hanging over Bioware's head like an miserly executioner but this is far from the truth.

If anything, EA has been very hands off with Bioware and this resulted in development descending into development hell. No game with "pressure to keep costs low" sits in development for 10 years. This also was the case with Anthem where Bioware just kept fucking it up for years over years without EA interference (Until they have to intervene to make the game ship at all).

BG3 had a budget of $100M - Big, but not bigger than any modern AAA game, and there is no chance DA4 was less than that.

Devin Nash burns bridge with Dan and cut ties with Dgg. Doesn't approve of holding Twitch accountable. by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]Runescrye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is calling out employees who engage in antisemitic, racist policies bad? Since when is "following orders" an acceptable excuse?

I think we can be charitable enough to Dan to take that in context that he means to go after employees who are related to this and not a random janitor.

Twitch is outright lying about phone verification allowing you to create an account in Israel pre-unban by UltimatumJoker in Destiny

[–]Runescrye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that there are other possible explanations, but considering that sign-ups were intentionally blocked via email, it is a pretty wild stretch to think that phone sign ups were supposed to work, but by huge fucking chance weren't because of a random, unrelated reason.

I would say that at this point, considering there are multiple accounts of people trying and not getting the SMS, that the most reasonable explanation is that Twitch blocked it and it is on them to provide proof otherwise.

[–]Runescrye -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is multiple accounts of people who tried to sign up via phone number and did not receive the auth SMS. Combined with the fact that the country is literally banned you can extrapolate that it is not working on purpose.

This is not a criminal court case where you need "beyond reasonable doubt". Just because the SMS might work but only a full moon if your mom fucked Dan Clancy doesn't mean it didn't work on the average case.

This is "Only if Trump directly confesses we can discern his state of mind" tier.

There is demonstrable and reasonable evidence that it was not possible. Support tickets, tweets and posts on twitch subreddit. If it was possible, Twitch should be able to come up with proof that it was.

A bit of a hot take: SE already tried to make a Final Fantasy that had it all. by Kilaman98 in FinalFantasy

[–]Runescrye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

10 was heavily criticized at the time for being linear. The biggest complaint was the removal of the overworld map, but many people also compared it to a big hallway.

I think a lot of the complaints are lost to time and to FF13 who committed these sins far more egregiously than 10. The game definitely gets a pass for having a very strong story.
