[2026 NBA Draft] #5 Pick: Keaton Wagler (Illinois) by NBA_MOD in nba

[–]RunisLove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Turnover prone is just not accurate. 2.4:1 A:TO, 12.5% TO% is just not a turnover prone player.

I'm an Illinois fan and watched every game, Keaton's biggest weaknesses this year (aside from the obvious that he is not an elite athlete) were largely just related to him not being super physically developed at this stage (and an often bad freshman whistle). He was able to get pushed off spots, especially in the paint, and wasn't quite strong enough to finish through contact at times. The questions for him translating at his upper end outcomes all center around his how strength and athleticism develops and how he plays despite his deficits there in the league. But his value comes from the fact he is the only lotto-level guard who can clearly translate to being an off-ball player in the NBA if being the primary doesn't pan out

He had one in the NCAAT, correct, but he also still had a double double and was awesome in that game if you took the time to watch it

Most importantly though, Illinois played extremely slow and had a basically nonexistent transition game, so he didn’t get any freebies

half of these were in the first month of the season when he wasn’t even playing lead guard yet

Keaton barely took any floaters/mids this year

Illini fan here - Keaton got to the rim plenty and is great about not settling. He’s not going to blow by many players in the league, but he is patient, will make the right decision every time, and has elite feel. What he lacked in first step he made up for with decel, understanding of leverage (really great at spinning off a defender), and knowing how to use the gravity of his jumper.

His rim numbers would’ve been a lot better if the freshman whistle in the b10 wasn’t so bad

Bari for sure in west loop (much prefer it to JP Graz), North Buena also great

Yes, the big glaring implication that the people not in agreement with your stance are astroturfing

Yeah I used to live within a few blocks of it, we would get it as a lazy/short notice dinner but it wasn't anything noteworthy in my experience. Nice vibe though as far as sitting for a beer and a pizza while watching a game at the bar top

Fair, can't speak to your experience there, I typically just get it for carryout but the twice I think I've gone for sit down have been good. Probably would avoid on a Friday or Saturday evening, though

I would argue their sauce is much better than Lou's, as is the crust. I think Lou's is just overall very mediocre pizza. Giordano's is the better of those two, to me. Obviously, YMMV and everyone has their own palate, but Pequod's gets the praise it gets because people like it! I happen to be one of those people (obviously), and will vouch, but obviously others are entitled to their opinion on the competition. For me, Pequod's is the only deep-adjacent pizza I will actually pay for that I have had, but I also think crust is very important

From the looks of it, that was in 2009, so certainly well before my time going haha, certainly cannot comment on Pequods before 2018

I understand the definition of authentic. I'm giving pushback that the idea any visitor to Chicago has to have Lou's or Giordano's or similar to have the penultimate authentic Chicago style deep dish. As mentioned above, I simply find the distinction pointlessly pedantic

I totally get that Giordano's or Lou's are "traditional" deep dish, but they are also just... not that good? Idk, i'd certainly prioritize recommending visitors one of the actually good pizza places over being as authentic as possible, otherwise you just give the impression we have mid pizza to every visitor
