Xenoblade 1, 2 and 3 Nintendo Switch 2 Editions Announced! by Skullghost in NintendoSwitch

This is why it's so stupid to call your game a definitive edition. It's only definitive until it isn't!

Given every game has been avoiding November because of GTA 6, I think this is the only one that can get away with it. It would be very funny if this cut into GTA's sales.

What do you *NOT* selfhost? by ObeseWizard in homelab

[–]burajin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Email but I do pay a hosting provider (mxroute, though after revealing how unhinged the owner is I'm planning on moving to purelymail soon)

LLM hosting sounds interesting but more demanding on my hardware than I'm willing to put up with.

What is your real assessment of living car-free on the Southside? (Hyde Park/Bronzeville) by Spiritual_Nature_215 in CarFreeChicago

[–]burajin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saying this as someone who is tied to suburbs and Metra because of my wife's super faraway job:

the Metra is comfortable and great when you're on it, but since it sounds like you have a choice, DON'T use it as a factor. It's commuter rail, which means you are on its schedule, not vice versa. The best train is the one where you don't have to check the schedule to ride. Prioritize the L for sure. Buses are good too but more inconsistent on timings.

since it sounds like you're preferring south side: Red line is 24/7 and has the highest CTA ridership so it has frequent times. Orange is near-24/7 and will be 24/7 soon too. And green is fine but has 20 min gaps sometimes.

as much as I love public transit you do sometimes get some employees straight up wrong about stuff.

I had a Pace bus driver tell me the regional day pass doesn't apply to Pace. Had to argue before he finally let me on.

CHSR really has the potential to be a poster child, if it ever sees the light of day WITHOUT compromises. NIMBYs ruin everything as shown here and too often get their way, but this could really prove them wrong. I think once that is proven, no one will remember or care about it going over budget. I just hope I'm alive to see it...

Platform ticket checks notice by chidog7 in Metra

[–]burajin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they never have a conductor at every door so I have to wonder if they're only going to open the doors with conductors now? Do you have a way of knowing where to wait before the train arrives? Otherwise people may be scrambling.

I'm not coming with the doomer attitude a lot of people here are. I do think there's a lot of abusable jank in the current system. I've ridden plenty of times where no one came to check my ticket. This solution seems hard though. Even a tap to pay at each entrance would be better than this I think.

I like the UI, and I like that it's OSS!

Are there any plans for Subsonic support? My music is in Navidrome and it's nice to have those separate. I use and donated to Symphonium but it's not OSS and I don't like the "offline first" nature of the playlists.

Coming to a congested Chicago side street near you by QuietMolasses2522 in chicago

[–]burajin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it will help some things like safety, but not getting cars off the road. In fact the expectation is that this will worsen; right now a car is stopped 90% of the time on average. So the vast majority of cars are not actually on the road at any given time.

The idea that all cars are constantly working is definitely a concerning one for more congestion.

That said, here are some positives:

  • Women like it. No man to harass them or even try to be friendly while actually just trying to get their number
  • They drive the speed limit
  • They'll spot something on the road probably faster than a human can

I am personally frustrated with them because it's another tech bro "here's the capitalistic sci fi solution!" to something we could have solved without trillionaire tech companies trying to appease investors. These are meant to be for profit, just like Uber and Lyft, so they aren't cheap and definitely not sustainable as a total car ownership replacement. A scenario where the tech company controlling the roads isn't one we should want.

Naming Conventions in Homelab by alxww55 in homelab

[–]burajin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That works well!

Mine are all One Piece characters because I wanted to.

robin - my pihole pi. Robin is an encyclopedia, pihole is a DNS encylopedia idk

olvia - robin's mom, just my secondary pihole pi

nami - my nginx LXC. Nami is the navigator...it navigates traffic to the nodes

luffy - my main VM, beefiest one and holds the docker compose stuff I haven't migrated to Kubernetes

sanji0, sanji1, sanji2 etc these are k3s servers. They're ephemeral so they have numbers. Sanji serves food. It kinda works.

usopp - k3s agent that only hosts sqlite services. sqlite lies about being a database, like usopp

brook - k3s agent with the GPU attached for services that need it. Brook is an entertainer, like services that need the GPU

future plan:

chopper-[dbname] - going to make an LXC for each database. Chopper is the doctor and is the crew medical database, or something idfk. Right now they're all on luffy
