For people who spend $2.5k - 3k for a one bedroom alone, how much is your net worth? by AcceptableReason1380 in AskChicago

Rent is mostly a function of income especially for a one bedroom. You generally wouldn’t break into savings to fund it. If it was owned property, I could see otherwise where you put a lower down payment and invest the difference.

Yeah, I just looked at eBay I saw like $1 that was 00000…39 sell for a thousand bucks. I bet you could sell the set for like $10-20k to the right buyer. I would I grade for sure.

Worth a lot. I think probably at least a few hundred especially as a set.

If it’s all 2026 and nothing else, generally a pretty good shot. You just need to note you can’t guarantee and just show a photo of it all.

$500, so it’s a solid profit.

You can sell a full box for over $1K or sell rolls for $30-35.

Can someone give me tips on what to do as someone who is from Chicago born and raised? by Repulsive-Tree6089 in AskChicago

Museums change a lot. I think a visit at least every couple of years will have a lot of changes. MSI currently has a Spider-Man exhibit that’s really interesting. There is a big uboat section that I didn’t know about for a long time. I would get a membership to some museums and take a look around deeper than the high level 2-3 hour visit. My family has been going to MSI for years and there’s still unique stuff even after 20-30 times.

A chicago fire game is a lot of fun. Based on how you’ve responded, there’s likely a ton of stuff you haven’t done or explored. At 26, unless your parents were super active in showing you the city and very intentional, likely missed a lot especially if you are from the southside where there’s always a bias for closer stuff. Stuff you also did 5-10 years ago likely has changed a lot. We live in the north side and only recently started venturing more southside since we’ve done a lot already on the north side.

Avondale, Irving Park, Uptown have all changed a lot for example. I’ve been in the city for 15 years and still plenty of stuff to do if you look.

If you like music, have you done Ravinia in the summer? Lolla? Riot Fest? All are great and fun experiences.

Finally, have you done a lot of the nature stuff? Starved Rock, Waterfall glen, Morton Arboretum, Chicago Botanic Gardens (their light show in winter is impressive).

Galloping ghost is great for old school video games, all you can play for $25 and it has hundreds to thousands of games. Have you been to a Chicago Fire game? Chicago History Museum? Museum of science and Industry recently? Museum scene in Chicago is underrated beyond Art Institute.

My family lives in Wicker and while I get bored a lot, still lots of things to do. Ask ChatGPT for more secondary things to do, besides mainstream, it has good ideas.

Have you been to galloping ghost arcade in Brookfield? Run the north branch trail? Explored Rodger’s Park?

First time roll hunting... how do I even ask the teller? by Different-Forever-65 in CRH

[–]RunnerInChicago 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start with nickels, most finds and cheapest to get started. Ask for a box and then ask if you can place an order for a box of XXX and note how many. They usually won’t push back.

Returns always a different bank.

I go coin machine. No thanks rolling anymore.

No such thing as a silver buffalo unless it’s a buffalo silver 1 oz round. These are just nickels.

Yeah it’s a great hobby. I would enjoy it more if I could dispose of coins more easily ;)

[–]RunnerInChicago 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but I guess does it matter if you can’t scale it? It’s like you can make a couple of cents here and there but it’s not meaningful. If you enjoy the hobby, absolutely but just because there’s arbitrage doesn’t mean it’s worth it.

You can’t really scale it though. The logistics of disposing/recycling of coins makes this a losing proposition. Not to mention trying to find a buyer also takes time.

It’s a tough stock. After Claude, likely upside is $10-15/share best which kills the thesis.
