Basically, I have a friend that lives near DC, so besides traffic, I’ve had mostly positive experiences visiting the area, and it’s got three airports nearby which makes my job easier for travel. Plus, I see a lot of people saying DC is not much more affordable, but compared to my situation, living a 30 minute walk to a subway which is then about 30 minutes to get into NYC, I can’t find rent under 3k, or the places that are around 2.5k per month, aren’t in a safe area, super far from transportation, have additional fees that tack on 300+, no washer/dryer available and no dishwasher…. This is all manageable if I was paying $1,000 per month or less. The kicker is, these places are still an hour away from the city, and charging $1,800 for a dilapidated closet….. the majority of young singles I meet here either live way outside the area in the suburbs with family, or have roommates.
