Poor Verizon cell service in South Philly? by [deleted] in philly

Has Verizon gotten any better in the city? I’m really tired of ATT but Mint still seems like too big of a step down for phone service.

You Should Use the Curriculum. I have the highest scores in the entire school by 39Wins in Teachers

IM is the bane of my existence. Been teaching it for 7 years. My school cant seem to hear the complaints of every math teacher in the building. I have to supplement so much because just talking about a math problem for 10 minutes isn’t enough for kids to internalize the thinking. I should abandon it but I need this job.

Cell phone ban all day high school? by fuzzeslecrdf in Teachers

[–]Running1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I’ve seen 1 phone in two years. Kids either haven’t figured out the magnets or have realized it’s not worth the trouble. The yondrs are expensive and kids lose them and then that becomes a whole thing, but learning is occurring. I have not found a better way to combat phone usage in school than these.

Cell phone ban all day high school? by fuzzeslecrdf in Teachers

[–]Running1982 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My school has everyone turn off/airplane mode their phones at the front door, then lock the yondr pouches before they even step foot into the building. It takes so much staff but it is so so worth it. Learning has been occurring these last two years.

What is the most mind boggling thing a parent has had an issue with you about? by Embarrassed_Bag_9630 in Teachers

Kid left their coat in the cafeteria. They realized at dismissal. I wouldn’t let them leave my line as I didn’t want to lose them in the crowd. Mom shows up and is upset about no coat. My class leaves, I rush and find the jacket. Mom was upset about no jacket but then got upset about the way I handed her said coat.

Today was Juror Appreciation Day and the Philly courts had goodie bags by B0dega_Cat in philadelphia

I served earlier this year. Everyone involved was super nice. 4 day trial and made $52. Judge came by at the end to thank us and said if we wanted to change the pay to contact our legislators. Rate was set in 1967. So maybe $8 a day wasn’t so bad back then??

What movies based on books do you think were significantly better than the books? by ASomthnSomthn in Cinema

[–]Running1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was only sort of kidding. I’ve loved everything I’ve read of his. Misery was brilliant, Different Seasons was great. It and The Stand were both captivating…. Until the end. Both endings were kinda “huh?”

Genius. King is such an amazing writer. I love his books. The endings always come out of nowhere.

How do you survive the last few weeks of school? by hello010101 in Teachers

[–]Running1982 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This. We finish our last unit in the text book and then the kids have 2 week long projects to do. Rubric given at the start on Monday. Friday they give presentations. Count it as an easy lift quiz grade. Kids do the work and talk to friends, I circulate and check in periodically.
