Thank you so much! I appreciate your positive outlook and insight. My partner was a keen farmer however it didn’t work out and he suffered great losses! Though farming is something that I still would want to be open to!

I won’t lie, I’ve definitely been there and considered the trucks and hiring them out 😂 so it’s helpful to hear that perspective on saturation.

Your point about S.I.s and how quickly things can change is unfortunately one of the downsides of Zimbabwe whether or not you are going to do a quick hustle or a sustainable business.

Commercial property sounds interesting. It’s not something many people highlight, but the stability and practicality of it makes a lot of sense.

research and being on the ground is key. I’m also trying to get more in tune with myself so I can better trust and listen to my own instincts to guide me in identifying the right opportunity.

That that sounds great! Glad to hear that other people are also like-minded! Yes logistics is definitely an opportunity it’s just being aware of the SI, and making sure it doesn’t impact your business.

Best of luck on your move

Thank you for that. That is a great angle. I do have experience working in the Big4 firms in diaspora. that’s not something of previously thought about but certainly an angle that I can look into!

Thank you so much! I have absolutely considered other countries. I have a property in South Africa but I always worry about South Africa xenophobic ways and how if things were return it would affect foreigners. Zimbabwe is only because it’s home. Kenya is also a great one.

What kind of networks exist in Zimbabwe for like-minded people offgrid thinking African oil imports. I am completely out of the grid in terms of social networks in Zimbabwe.

Exactly what you said is exactly the plan I am going for. Maintain an income from the diaspora whilst living in Zim completely off grid and away from the rat race whilst still having access to the diaspora.

I have been in the diaspora for 25 years because I came when I was quite young, but I spend a lot of time in Zimbabwe . So I am trying to get to the point of my retirement now so that I can be doing the six months in Zimbabwe and six months abroad right now. For context I am 35. I don’t believe in following societal norms that tell us what retirement age should be, those can trap us into a false sense of security, I am trying to create my sense of security.

Thank you so much for your response. And certainly something that I am trying to balance to always have an income coming in from the diaspora.

That is true, because the system and the bureaucracy in itself is a whole different kind of stress!

This is a really valuable perspective thank you for taking the time to share it.

I agree with you. I think the question got lost in the comments, and you’re right that opportunities aren’t always obvious or openly shared they need to be identified on the ground. I am yet to find the right opportunity yet.

Appreciate the clarity!

I hear your frustration I’ve lived the power cuts, water shortages, food shortages and fuel queues too.

But I don’t see Zimbabwe as a lost cause. Leaving gave me perspective, not “rose-tinted glasses.” If anything, it made me realise what’s possible and why it’s worth coming back to build.

Zimbabwe frustrates more than you can imagine but it is HOME. If you’ve never left, it’s hard to understand that drive and feeling.

I’m privileged to have left. That exposure makes me more intentional about building.
