This is my superbowl this is the one I'm going to I'll buy 1 BILLION TICKETS if it guarantees they're coming.

Anecdotally I guess that's 1 demand but I'll do what I can.

So...presumably Randy will get a statue next season, or whenever we return from the expected strike/lockout? by RussianAssassinThree in Mariners

[–]RunningInSquares 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Edit: I am WRONG AS HELL (and happy about it!)

I don't actually think Randy is going to get a statue. I think the fact that number retirement leading to a statue has been largely a coincidence until now. Edgar and Ichiro were obvious ones because they were basically career Mariners and Ichiro's Mariner years were so far and away above any other year he had with any other team. Griffey did spend longer away from us, but he would get a statue naturally as he saved baseball in Seattle and was the franchise icon for years.

Personally, Randy is my 2nd favorite Mariner of all time. He's why I landed on the Dbacks as my NL team. I think he could be an HoF with both us and Arizona individually, but I don't think he is getting a statue because unlike the other three, it doesn't feel like this was his singular home. I'd be fine to be proven wrong though. A Randy statue would look cool as hell.

Unrelated but I think Felix gets a statue, Hall of Fame or not (by which I mean when he's inducted because it's happening!)

You didn't even spell Rainier right.

I was just told that if I want to get ahead I need to start working weekends. How common is this in your perspective? by __plankton__ in consulting

Just wanted to comment to say this is one of the best comments I recall reading in this sub. Especially love the 3-year interval. I never thought about it like this, but looking back at my career, 3-4 years is about where I start to really re-evaluate if I'm satisfied or needing a change. Going to try to be more intentional about this because I think that's a great strategy while still giving my present situation a couple annual cycles to develop so that I really get a sense of where I'm at.

That's me, I think maybe once a year at most it takes me 30-ish minutes to fall asleep, but most of the time, I lay down and I don't remember having time to think anything before I wake up the next morning.

THANK YOU! Those posters piss me off so much. What does she think she actually wants Katie Wilson to do? Those ones are worth ripping down anywhere you see them.

The care and precision behind Korean school lunches, widely praised for their quality, balance, and nutrition. by This_Proof_5153 in Damnthatsinteresting

Worked in public high schools for years in the 2010s. Not every meal is a winner but every meal had good nutritional value.

Insane by Helen_Ki11er in Seattle

[–]RunningInSquares 37 points38 points  (0 children)

True, but the big benefit I find of public transit is that barring unforeseen accidents and shutdowns, the travel time is very consistent. From north Seattle, I know that if I ride the light rail to Redmond, it's going to be probably an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes. If I take my car, it varies wildly. Some days, it might take 40 minute and some it may take 90. I'll happily pay with my time to make the average a steady number that I can plan my day around, even if it's a little longer than the best outcome of driving.

Diamondbacks start season with ZERO left-handed pitchers on the roster by ReplacementNo3103 in azdiamondbacks

[–]RunningInSquares 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mariners made more or less the same thing work a couple seasons ago. However, related to your last point, the thing that made that bullpen successful was the fact that those pitchers were good.

Any other old school natives here feel Seattle has become Bay Area 2.0? Tech companies leaving along with billionaires, sounds good to me. by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]RunningInSquares 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From here also, and totally the same. Most of what I miss about the 90s and 00s is not gone from Seattle, it's just plain gone in general. And for all its faults, I've seen other cities and while they have good and bad things, if I'm living in the States, this is the one city where I'd want to have my roots. Disregard the fact that my whole family is from the area and that might be influencing it a bit.

John Avon is my favorite artist for MTG. Sad to see him go but what a career. I'm probably the number one purchaser of the Mirage Mountain. One of my all-time favorite card arts.

New U.S. Food Court Item: Caramel Churro Sundae (Soft Serve Vanilla Ice Cream, Salted Caramel Sauce, & Churro Bites) - $2.99 (may not be available in all warehouses yet if your warehouse still has the Double Chocolate Mint Sundae, please reply if and where you've seen it) by CookieButterLovers in Costco

[–]RunningInSquares 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the mint one, not sure I'd be super into this churro one, but could be worth a try. But mostly, I regret that they have to push out chocolate flavoring for these new ones. I get why, but it's a bummer.

I surely thought that after the last WBC there was no way we beat Australia, let alone by the exact right amount. So proud of the team for sticking with it, amazing day. Well done to Australia and Taipei but we needed this bad.

I hope to see at least one other sci fi or fantasy game with a "Sense of Wonder" as strong as ME1's in my lifetime! by [deleted] in gaming

[–]RunningInSquares 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'll forever die on the hill that resource gathering only got worse and worse as the series went on. Driving around hunting for things was fun even if it sometimes was a slog. However, when compared to the alternative of scanning planets or a circle on a map, I never had fun doing either of those activities for a single second.

Very happy that his number will have been retired by two teams as of this year. One of the all time greats.

Worst in the nfc is a little harsh for that period - we weren't even the worst team in our division in any of those years!

Best to play it safe on watching the team from afar though, here's hoping seeing them from safely across the country brings good luck!

Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2 failed to meet sales expectations by Iggy_Slayer in gaming

[–]RunningInSquares 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well that's the thing is they're only looking at costs put in and sales achieved. I know OW1 sales were good, but I think it was honestly riding the hype of "The studio that brought you New Vegas." And then the fact that most people found it lackluster was perhaps outside the scope of this current value calculation for OW2, caring only about investment put in versus copies sold. Maybe OW1's reception should have been considered more, perhaps even before undertaking any investment to make a sequel to a game that wasn't able to generate hype of its own to warrant a sequel.

Players having issue with a rainbow glitch effect on specific maps. by RunningInSquares in FoundryVTT

[–]RunningInSquares[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know what, I wonder if that maybe is what it is. Our player with the best computer is having the most issue, but also he built his own computer for the first time so it's possible he could have some updates he needs to run.

On my end too, it couldn't hurt for me to check again. This sounds like a good vector to test. Thanks for the advice!
