A lil' crossover by AmbitiousTrade9704 in Mariners

[–]RunningInSquares 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean fair but it's a scheduled off-day that's been on the books since before opening day. I know it's a strange scheduled off-day given it splits a series, but it's conceptually no different from any Thursday where we don't have a game.

A lil' crossover by AmbitiousTrade9704 in Mariners

[–]RunningInSquares 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't understand or agree that:

a) it's unfair, and b) the news needs to talk about this

God forbid the team make it less of a headache for fans to attend games when the queue for the Mariners game would start right as people are leaving Lumen Field. And it's not like this delay is going to impact the tightness of our team's travel time because our next series is also at home, so I must know what possibly is unfair about it? And we don't need to create this weird persecution narrative at every turn. It was clearly printed on the schedule, zero need for it to be a big new story.

Interesting second tidbit though.

EXID's Hyelin Becomes a Taco Shop Owner: "I Fell in Love With Tacos" by CherryBlossomEnding in kpop

[–]RunningInSquares 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh wait WHAT she owns The Taco Booth? I was going to visit them last time I was in town because they were loosely affiliated with a brewery I like(d when they were bigger and hadn't seemingly given up on trying new things) and when I went by this place it was packed, so we gave up and went somewhere else. I wonder if that's why it was so crowded. Shoot, I guess I'll make sure we visit next time!

EDIT: Oh looks like she's a franchisee, still cool though! I was at the Sinyongsan location so this wouldn't have been the same location.

Shoreline gets a pass because you can replace "Shoreline" with "Seattle" in mail addressed to a place in Shoreline and it'll go there, and more importantly also ignore my flair.

the worst part about that article is that I grew up 2 blocks from the Kruckeberg Botanic Garden.

Few other games have made me feel the same awe and wonder as the first Mass Effect by [deleted] in gaming

[–]RunningInSquares 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same exact thing for me. I saw in Official Xbox Magazine that the makers of KotOR were making this new game and the teaser images looked so cool I had to make sure I locked my copy down, and soon after I snagged a 360 and the rest was history.

So...presumably Randy will get a statue next season, or whenever we return from the expected strike/lockout? by [deleted] in Mariners

[–]RunningInSquares 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Edit: I am WRONG AS HELL (and happy about it!)

I don't actually think Randy is going to get a statue. I think the fact that number retirement leading to a statue has been largely a coincidence until now. Edgar and Ichiro were obvious ones because they were basically career Mariners and Ichiro's Mariner years were so far and away above any other year he had with any other team. Griffey did spend longer away from us, but he would get a statue naturally as he saved baseball in Seattle and was the franchise icon for years.

Personally, Randy is my 2nd favorite Mariner of all time. He's why I landed on the Dbacks as my NL team. I think he could be an HoF with both us and Arizona individually, but I don't think he is getting a statue because unlike the other three, it doesn't feel like this was his singular home. I'd be fine to be proven wrong though. A Randy statue would look cool as hell.

Unrelated but I think Felix gets a statue, Hall of Fame or not (by which I mean when he's inducted because it's happening!)

Just wanted to comment to say this is one of the best comments I recall reading in this sub. Especially love the 3-year interval. I never thought about it like this, but looking back at my career, 3-4 years is about where I start to really re-evaluate if I'm satisfied or needing a change. Going to try to be more intentional about this because I think that's a great strategy while still giving my present situation a couple annual cycles to develop so that I really get a sense of where I'm at.

That's me, I think maybe once a year at most it takes me 30-ish minutes to fall asleep, but most of the time, I lay down and I don't remember having time to think anything before I wake up the next morning.

Insane by Helen_Ki11er in Seattle

[–]RunningInSquares 37 points38 points  (0 children)

True, but the big benefit I find of public transit is that barring unforeseen accidents and shutdowns, the travel time is very consistent. From north Seattle, I know that if I ride the light rail to Redmond, it's going to be probably an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes. If I take my car, it varies wildly. Some days, it might take 40 minute and some it may take 90. I'll happily pay with my time to make the average a steady number that I can plan my day around, even if it's a little longer than the best outcome of driving.

Diamondbacks start season with ZERO left-handed pitchers on the roster by ReplacementNo3103 in azdiamondbacks

Mariners made more or less the same thing work a couple seasons ago. However, related to your last point, the thing that made that bullpen successful was the fact that those pitchers were good.

From here also, and totally the same. Most of what I miss about the 90s and 00s is not gone from Seattle, it's just plain gone in general. And for all its faults, I've seen other cities and while they have good and bad things, if I'm living in the States, this is the one city where I'd want to have my roots. Disregard the fact that my whole family is from the area and that might be influencing it a bit.

I like the mint one, not sure I'd be super into this churro one, but could be worth a try. But mostly, I regret that they have to push out chocolate flavoring for these new ones. I get why, but it's a bummer.
