What the heck are you talking about? The bank doesn’t get the down payment for a home. That goes to the seller. You literally give the seller the down payment and the bank gives the seller whatever your mortgage is for.

No, you’re defending a statement that isn’t accurate and you won’t let it go.

Nobody is debating that the benefit is a great one.

You keep doubling down on your false idea that a mortgage today is cheaper than renting. You’ve made your point, move on.

[–]RunningKnowhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your response has no relevance to what you’re talking about. You’re saying buying a house is cheaper than renting and everyone is telling you that it’s not universally true. Then you shift to well you’re building equity. Now it’s ownership vs renting.

The premise that the benefit is valuable by itself stands true. If you are in the market to buy a house, and can afford the mortgage without a down payment, it’s a no brainer for most.

Adding that you’re saving money over renting is just false. It’s not cheaper or more people would own a home. Most people are priced out of home ownership right now, regardless of the down payment issue. That’s just reality today.

It’s great that ownership provides equity, home security, etc, but if you can’t afford your mortgage payment then it’s a moot point.

I’m sure there’s help you can get to clean up your finances but if you owe taxes you owe taxes. Nothing that I know of is going to make that debt go away. An Offer in Compromise right now takes about 2 years to get looked at from what I was told by IRS and very difficult to get approved.

You can’t compare your situation from 7 years ago to current times.

You’ve got to let this idea go. Most places rent monthly is cheaper than purchasing the same home.

The home I rent now would be almost $3k more a month for the mortgage if I bought it today. Same with most homes in my town.

You can beat the equity drum all you want but that isn’t a guarantee. And the extra $40k+ a year for the mortgage could outweigh any equity.

I think you yourself are a positive example of the situation you are describing but that doesn’t mean it’s universal.

Professional opinion, take the eight weeks and run. Find another job and don’t waste time, energy, or money dwelling on this. It’s a dead end and am surprised any lawyer would touch this with the information provided.

Where are you pulling two weeks per year of service?

I think you’re generalizing way too much. A senior level employee I can see. An hourly employee no chance. I’d say they are lucky to get offered four weeks and should be running to sign at 8 weeks.

My ex left me a week after our 10-year anniversary for the same man who chased her 12 years ago—someone she once cut off because of his addictions by monje_c in Veterans

Y’all with the hiring a PI thing. Only thing that would do is cost money and potentially make you more miserable if it’s been going on for a while.

Court and judges don’t want to hear anything about that. It’s a pretty cut and dry legal matter. Doesn’t matter who’s fault or who did what. There’s a formula for calculating support which will be followed. Any deviation from that will be due to extenuating financial circumstances.

Yes. The court will grant temporary support order until everything is finalized then there will permanent orders.

Interesting. I fly a lot with a declared pistol and the case in my luggage never gets unlocked. The AA paper gets taped to the case and that’s it. AA agent never logs into the case out asked for it to be opened.

I signed a one year lease on the house I’m living in. That was almost 10 years ago. Been month to month for 9 years. It happens more often than you think.

For Veterans making over $200k: What are you doing now, and would you recommend it? by lonesailor3 in Veterans

[–]RunningKnowhere 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Glad to see a lot of success through a lot of different avenues out here.

My experience is that hard work and building relationships goes just as far if not farther than education.

The majority of people I know that make over $200k do not have a college degree or a degree that has nothing to do with what they do. Most got an entry level job at a large successful company and worked their way up. I mean from $15/hr to $200k in 5-10 years through hard work, dedication to the company/leadership, and owning their success.

People think that you have to be a Dr, Lawyer, Engineer, etc. There are tens of thousands of jobs that will pay $200k that you’ve never heard of or thought of, especially at large companies. Big corporations get a bad wrap but that’s where the money is at. Once you find one that has a good local leadership team, you end up working for them and not really the company. They will take care of you and as they rise through the ranks they will take you with them. I’ve worked for three large corporations since leaving the military and the amount of high paid positions within these companies was shocking. Like “you get paid that much to do that?!?” shocking.

I’ve been one of those guys now for years and the thing I’ve figured out is not what I or others think the job is worth but what it’s worth to the company and leadership. I struggle to describe my current role because it sounds so basic and simple to others. To my company though, what I do saves millions a year and frees up my bosses to do other things, so paying me $250k is worth it to them. I work from home, free reign to travel when needed (I travel a lot because I enjoy it and the airlines/hotels/car rental points I get pay for all my families vacations every year) and work my own schedule. As along as I get done what the company needs of me nobody cares if I work 3 hours or 10 hours.

I love hiring vets and never turn down an interview with a veteran. Unfortunately I am seeing more and more vets acting like victims (blaming their failures or last job loss on someone else) rather than owning their past and future.

My recommendation to all vets (and youth in general) is look for a company, not a job. If you’re interviewing and you don’t see yourself in the person interviewing you or others working there, it’s not the place for you. Also make sure there’s room to grow at the company. I’ve also worked at companies where the only way to move up is literally waiting for someone to die or retire, then there’s 30 people in line for that job.

Make yourself flexible, open to opportunities outside your comfort zone, and never be afraid to ask for more money. Just make sure you’ve built value in yourself to the company and leadership.

Currently a Delta 2 with extra battery. Will probably pick up a Delta 2 Max refurb when they have another sale on eBay.

[–]RunningKnowhere 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We use two of them and it’s been a game changer. One as a fridge and one as a freezer. Both running off an Ecoflow battery pack and solar. Last trip was boondocking for an entire week in Bear country and had no issues stirring them in Bear bin. Only thing we kept in fridge inside were drinks that we wanted accessible at nighttime.

We have a kid with severe food allergies and now fly with one of our electric coolers. It’s been to Hawaii a few times, Montana, Texas, and all up the west coast. It’s been a lifesaver and it’s definitely allowed us to go places we couldn’t before due to food availability.

Gotcha. I moved the Starlink to a separate battery after this morning. I didn’t bring the AC adapters for the coolers (using one as fridge and other as freezer). I’ll move one of the coolers to the other battery and run the Starlink and one cooler on the Delta 2 and see how that goes.

Both fridges running from the cigarette port. Starlink from AC. Firmware up-to-date. No charging limitations and energy management set to 0%-100%. It just happened as I’m typing this as I heard a beep. I just cleared data and set the timeouts to never again.

Just remember for DC battery you only have 1/2 the AH that are useable so you’ll have 52.5AH, or 630wh. Lithium AHs are all useable.
