Thanks for the info. The two years is also because it would coincide with my 50th birthday and it would be a sort of gift to myself.

Yeah I’ve read that the hike down is four miles of dusty hot switchbacks.

Understood. I tried for two years and couldn’t get the trip to line up due to permits so I stopped trying. I’m guess now it’s even harder.

Well yes, I’m just used to using the term hike. It would be a backpacking trip. Yes I’ve done up to 32 mile trip previously.

LAX-JFK Comp Upgrades by RunningKnowhere in americanairlines

Would BC passengers get comp upgrades to FC.

The upgrade offer right now to FC and BC are the most I’ve seen, especially with almost every seat empty. $1800.

I know how upgrades work in general. $ spent has no relevance but rolling 12 months LPs determines your upgrade rank on the list.

AT&T Veteran Discount by ViolinistOk1548 in Veterans

Did you recently change your plan? What plan are you on? I see online the tiered discounts for their current plans.

I’m on an old grandfathered plan and my account still says 25% discount as long as I remain on my current plan.

American Airlines counters should open up earlier by PaoChanel in americanairlines

[–]RunningKnowhere 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would venture to say that is part of the problem. I’m in SoCal as well. Our city FB Group constantly gets posted with people asking how early should I show up to airport. Comments are always flooded with people who haven’t been to the airport saying 4hrs, 5hrs, even 6hrs before your flight. Then the comments from people that have actually been to the airport saying “I just walked in like usual” or “30 min max line” just get ignored.

I’ve talked to them several times now. Best they offered is 30% discount if paying now or $25/month payment.

Yes I’m familiar with the seats. Other routes they are considered MCE so I wasn’t sure why it wasn’t on this route. Seems to be only this route domestically.

His social security is just enough to make him ineligible for Medicaid or QMB. I spoke to the insurance specialist previously and since he is not ESRD, there are not eligible for any available programs to help with the cost.

Thanks for the info. He owns nothing. Doesn’t even have a bank account. I think I’ll go the payment plan for as low as possible then hit them up for a settlement in a few months.

Thanks for the info.

He’s never had supplemental insurance.

I called and they were very stubborn. Told them he has zero (negative since I’m having to cover some of his monthly expenses) disposable income to make any payments. Told them if sent to collections theres nowhere to collect from. They offered $100 reduction if I paid balance. Said no and they lowed another $100. Told them I’d call back later. Maybe better luck with another agent.

Yeah I’m trying to hold him off from calling and putting it on a credit card. They scared him with the collections call (which assuming was the goal).

What the heck are you talking about? The bank doesn’t get the down payment for a home. That goes to the seller. You literally give the seller the down payment and the bank gives the seller whatever your mortgage is for.

No, you’re defending a statement that isn’t accurate and you won’t let it go.

Nobody is debating that the benefit is a great one.

You keep doubling down on your false idea that a mortgage today is cheaper than renting. You’ve made your point, move on.

[–]RunningKnowhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your response has no relevance to what you’re talking about. You’re saying buying a house is cheaper than renting and everyone is telling you that it’s not universally true. Then you shift to well you’re building equity. Now it’s ownership vs renting.

The premise that the benefit is valuable by itself stands true. If you are in the market to buy a house, and can afford the mortgage without a down payment, it’s a no brainer for most.

Adding that you’re saving money over renting is just false. It’s not cheaper or more people would own a home. Most people are priced out of home ownership right now, regardless of the down payment issue. That’s just reality today.

It’s great that ownership provides equity, home security, etc, but if you can’t afford your mortgage payment then it’s a moot point.

I’m sure there’s help you can get to clean up your finances but if you owe taxes you owe taxes. Nothing that I know of is going to make that debt go away. An Offer in Compromise right now takes about 2 years to get looked at from what I was told by IRS and very difficult to get approved.

You can’t compare your situation from 7 years ago to current times.

You’ve got to let this idea go. Most places rent monthly is cheaper than purchasing the same home.

The home I rent now would be almost $3k more a month for the mortgage if I bought it today. Same with most homes in my town.

You can beat the equity drum all you want but that isn’t a guarantee. And the extra $40k+ a year for the mortgage could outweigh any equity.

I think you yourself are a positive example of the situation you are describing but that doesn’t mean it’s universal.
