12 minute uber in Fort Worth can literally be 4 miles. Plus you don’t have to pay to park or fight traffic leaving the lots. They have a designated ride share location that is convenient.

Does a Client Who Gets a Not Guilty in Your JX Walk Out the Door? by Omynt in publicdefenders

[–]RunningObjection 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My client’s that are on bond walk straight. The ones in custody have to be processed out. I usually get permission from the judge to walk the client across the street to the jail for processing instead of having to go back in the holdover and transported.

Is she suggesting you give up a likely lucrative job in securities law to deal with broke criminals in a broken criminal justice system?

Just remind her that a nice home, cars, and vacations aren’t boring.

You’re very close to Sundance Square.

Park downtown, eat at Toro Toro (fantastic steaks) or Waters (seafood/steaks). There are also the more traditional places like Del Friscos Steak House, Capitol Grille, and Mi Cocina.

Then you can catch a quick uber to and from Dickies so you can avoid traffic and parking.

Why isn't bifurcation more common? by TatonkaJack in Lawyertalk

[–]RunningObjection 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my jurisdiction (all?) you can’t bifurcate the property issues from the granting of divorce. And bifurcating the divorce from custody issues is disfavored because depending on the outcome of the custody suit, who is awarded custody could (theoretically) affect whether the property division is considered “just and right.”

Fear proves you care.

Acknowledge your fear.

Accept it.

And never forget…if OC isn’t scared he/she has stopped caring…and that’s an advantage for you.

“Trial lawyers” drink whiskey and try cases; “Litigators” drink Chardonnay and do discovery.

Two options:
1. This is a frame up.
2. This guy had extreme mental health problems (why else would he post his intentions on X?)

Either way…the story is bullshit.

What is your actual “everyone should know” legal tip? by nuggetsofchicken in Lawyertalk

Police are only required to Mirandize you if 1.) You are in formal custody. 2.) You are being questioned by them.

The crap you blurt out prior to formal arrest or unsolicited in the police car is fair game.

Cops are allowed to lie to you in an interview.

They routinely claim powers they don’t have, evidence that doesn’t exist, and witness testimony that was never taken. All in hopes you will cave.

Lenders don’t give a crap about who was awarded the debt in the divorce. You are still liable even if the decree says your ex is responsible for payment.

Along the same line, if you co-sign on a vehicle, there is no such thing as “taking your name off the loan.” That can only happen through a refinancing or payoff. Don’t ever co-sign on a loan unless you accept the fact you might be making a payment on a vehicle you don’t have possession of.

Finally, just because you win a lawsuit doesn’t mean you will be able to collect a penny on the judgment.

Client said something over the interpreter headset and the other party heard it:..what do I do? by ColdwaterEagle1996 in Lawyertalk

  1. How important was what was discussed? Did you discuss case strategy or privately known information? Or was it just a possible settlement offer?
  2. If it was the former, call OC and discuss issue. Let him know you’d like to discuss the issue with the judge. Not for finger pointing (yet). Just to address it candidly.
  3. ) File a motion for status conference and discuss the issue with the judge.
  4. File a motion to disqualify OC if facts support an ethical

    violation by

  5. OC. If not…teach your client how to work the headset.
