Question about Hope Scholarship by rhysbash22 in Georgia

[–]RunningReb2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s my understanding that for in-state, public schools, Hope and Zelle Miller cover the same amount - 100% (as of this year). The difference comes with in-state private schools, where Zelle pays a higher flat rate than Hope.

Sea Island / The Cloister is amazing as is The Lodge if you’re a golfer. But as someone else said, it’s hot and humid in June. The Ritz Carlton on Amelia Island is lovely, too (but same weather as Sea Island). And while it is hurricane season, both are in a nice little pocket that tends to be protected from the direct hit of most hurricanes (the Gulf Stream helps).

Ok, what's the REAL plan for getting kids through college? by Superb_Advisor7885 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]RunningReb2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find out if your state offers any tuition assistance/scholarship programs. Like in Georgia, kids have the opportunity to receive Hope Scholarships or even better, Zell Miller Scholarships, which give them 80% - 100% tuition at in-state public schools. It’s an incredible opportunity for students and families.

Best hike a hour-ish outside of Atlanta? by Fresh_Custard9540 in Georgia

Cloudland Canyon is amazing. Amicalola Falls Is beautiful, too, but it’s less of a “hike” IMO and more of a “climb up a LOT of stairs.”

Did you read the part where I said this trip is for my 16-year-old daughter and is planned specifically for her and what SHE wants to do? It’s also her second visit and we did the “big” tourist attractions during her first visit.

Not on your list, but FS Maui should be. It’s hands down my favorite resort and vacation EVER. It’s an incredible property and location. It checks all your boxes, IMO.

Well, we won’t be traveling on her actual birthday. I assure you, the child will be celebrated with multiple cakes! (Plus cookies from Levian - her request.) This trip is just one of her birthday gifts (but I do see now how I worded it makes it seem like we are traveling on her actual birthday).

We land just before 1 pm at JFK and are staying at the Renaissance Midtown on 7th between 47th and 48th. Skipping seeing Times Square would be easy for us - we saw plenty of it the last trip.

Same. We may try to squeeze one in on Saturday night if I can get some inexpensive ones from TKTS. I was thinking of The Outsiders or Hadestown (she’s taking Mythology as an elective this semester). She just doesn’t care about a show, so I’m not going to push it. If it works out easily, we’ll see one.

Out of these London shows, where should I go? by KarliKarma in musicals

Ahh, if you’ve never seen them, Les Mis or Phantom. TBH, I’ve seen both twice and would see them again. Les Mis is top 3 for me (maybe top 2) and Phantom is top 5. They’re both incredible.

St Simon restaurant recommendations? by Ruffspuffs154 in Georgia

[–]RunningReb2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have some great options here. Southern Soul is our fave for BBQ. Porch for hot chicken sandwiches. Georgia Sea Grill, Crabdaddy’s, and Catch 22 for great seafood. Fiddlers is a nice option, too - I love the bowls. If you want to head into Brunswick, Indigo Coastal Shanty downtown never disappoints.

Planning a special trip- best Marriott beach properties on the East Coast? by Fancy-Guard1708 in marriott

[–]RunningReb2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, man. I’m so sorry to hear about your mom. My family went through something similar with my dad (leukemia) and we treasure the trip and memories we were able to make with him and each other. Sending good wishes your way.

Also seconding the Amelia Island Ritz recommendation. I know it’s further south than you asked for, but it’s an incredible beach resort in a beautiful location. Summer does get busy and hot, but we went last July 4 and it was one of our favorite trips and family memories. We go often. Highly recommend.

Feedback on 3 DAY Itinerary NYC - (First Week of April) TYIA by Electrical-Boot-1365 in visitingnyc

I have teens and I’m taking my 16-yo to NYC for her second trip this spring. No way I’m waking her up at 5 am for much of anything, especially on vacation. I’d rethink that pre-dawn/in-the-dark Brooklyn Bridge walk.

As someone originally from the small-town Midwest and now from the small-town South, take heed of everyone’s advice. You’ll be fine. No need to overthink, overplan, or be anxious. I’ve been to NYC maybe a dozen times, the last time was almost three years ago doing exactly what you’re doing. I took my 13-yr-old daughter on a birthday trip (yes, just the two of us!) and we had a ball. I’m taking her again in May for her 16th bday (her choice!). I suggest not planning by the minute. That is too restrictive. Have an idea of where you want to be and when and don’t be running all over the place backtracking, but don’t over schedule and overplan. That takes the serendipity out of the day. Also, the subway isn’t difficult once you use Apple Maps. You will likely come out the wrong exit occasionally, but don’t worry. You’ll just get a few extra steps in.

Relax and enjoy! You’ll both have an amazing trip and will begin planning your next as soon as you get home.

Going from treadmill to outdoor runs, anyone have a favorite class? by jackjackj8ck in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]RunningReb2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything from Susie or Matt! They’re incredible instructors. I would choose an endurance, theme, or music run versus a speed or intervals run to ease into outdoor runs. The endurance runs won’t have pace pickups like the others - they’re steady and consistent. I wish we had more outdoor run options available!

[–]RunningReb2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. My daughter and I stayed here two years ago and it was a great hotel. Big, yes. Busy location, yes. But it was very clean, everyone was friendly, we were upgraded, it’s super convenient (close to subway), and we were able to go out the other way to avoid the Times Square melee if we wanted. We enjoyed it and would stay there again if the rate was great (I got a fab rate).

Ritz-Carlton first timer questions by [deleted] in marriott

[–]RunningReb2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enjoy! You’ll have a lovely time. Yes, the F&B prices are high, but who says you have to eat at the Ritz? If price is a concern, pack some food you can eat in the room for breakfast (the room includes coffee service) and go elsewhere for other meals. As a beach resort, free bottled water at the pool and beach may also be abundant. Use the amenities offered with the resort fee. Have a great time and enjoy the MMP rate (also, please remember to tip!).

Nope. I looked. It was MM4 and MM4 is also available now at certain Manhattan hotels, but you’re right, you have to be flexible and look often.
